Is skateboarding worth it?

Hi, I want to learn how to skateboard but I don't know if it is worth potential wrist injuries. I play classical piano (and am serious about it); any wrist injury could greatly impact my playing. I also want to be a doctor (I am a HS senior) and wrist injuries could also prevent me from entering any surgical speciality.

Enuff skateboard

Any tips on skateboarding?

I've gotten my first skateboard yesterday
Would love some help/tips on how to properly get started.

Any stuff I could do to improve my balance on the board? My balance isn't the best in general, would love to know any things I could do to improve on it so I don't fall as often (had already fallen 2 times in my room yesterday while getting the feel for the board).

Inverted King pin nut loose in my baseplate.

As stated even when fully tapped in to place it downs sit properly. Fully tightened is the same thing, looseness just Causes kingpin to wobble and the noise is pissing my ears off. Fixable or just throw them out? New ikp nut? is the whole baseplate toast?

Dont tell me to get Indy’s or thunders I have some 🫠

Tre flips easier than kick flips

So I’ve been skating on and off four years and this year I kinda decided to stick with it. Last year I got boards slides,180’s, some half pipe stuff, and 5050’s on ledges. Standard beginner stuff but no flip tricks. I’m super close to kick flip (I’ve gotten it on bolts) but I remembered seeing a video of a guy saying Tre flip was easier. No YouTube video just 20 minutes and landed it. Anyone else experience this?

How long can I skate after a rolled ankle?

Hi, 4 weeks ago I proper did my ankle in. I managed to get the tiniest fracture on my ankle due to the ligament extending alot. I was an idiot, and tried a kicklflip a few hours ago and hurt it again. Not badly, didnt roll it again but it hurt. clearly wasnt a great idea. anyway, apart from that, Ive been excercising my ankle and letting it rest. These 4 weeks have been like hell and I just want to get back on my board. My doctor said it should take 6 weeks to heal, however Ive googled quite a bit and it says the ligament should really heal in a few months. shit sucks. hope I dont miss out on summer. Im wondering if any people had a similar injury and how long it took them to start skating again. Or if anyone knows some good advice on helping the injury would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Hard time committing to learn skating after an injury

I got hit by a car while I was crossing the road on my board and that happened at the start of the year and ever since then I haven’t been able to commit myself to learning anything past cruising around because the fear of getting hurt got to me but I love skating and the culture around it did anyone else experience something like this?

Having trouble installing my bushings.

I'm having a lot of issue putting my new bushings on. I bought some new ones the other day because I'm a heavier rider so I assumed I needed firmer bushings, so I bought a set of 94A conicals.

But right now, installing them is just a pain in my ass.

I put them on my board, and tightened them, and when I went to test them out in my room, they flexed just as much as the stock bushings, but sometimes they rocked a bit around and like spayed out? I've had a look at the underside, and the trucks seem to be tilted to one side. I've installed them with a video as a guide, and now I'm worried I've like fucked my board up.

I don't know if I accidentally blew them up when trying to tighten them or something.

Can anyone give me tips to fix my kickflip?

Been skating for about a year sorta consistently but can pretty much only ollie. The flip seems fine but it always seems to escape me going for the catch, any tips?

46yo Dad Learning with Son: Two Bad Slams (Despite Pads) and a Major Mental Block.

My 13-year-old son wanted to learn to skate, so I jumped in so he wouldn’t have to go it alone. I’m 46, 5'9, 155 lbs, and I’ve been using a cruiser and a longboard. We've been going on and off but This past week was my first "real" push to making it a habit, skating 40 mins daily.

The kid is a natural, but I’m struggling. I felt okay at our smooth church lot, but I "ate it" twice yesterday. I always armor up (helmet, wrist guards, knee/elbow pads), but I still landed hard on my shoulder both times. I’m definitely injured and out of commission for a bit. It’s a massive reality check.

The Hurdles:

The "Spook" Factor: We tried a dead mall parking lot, and I totally froze. I couldn’t bring myself to push more than a few feet. Is environmental anxiety a thing for other adult beginners?

The Setup: I moved from rock-hard trucks to a "split" setup (loose front for turning, tight back for stability). It feels better, but I'm still shaky.

The Training: I have an indoor balance board I use to help with stabilizer muscles, but translating that to the pavement is proving hard.

The "Fear": I refuse to believe I’m too old for this, but the discouragement is hitting hard. Even with all the pads, the ground is just unforgiving.

Any advice on rebuilding confidence after a slam? How do you guys deal with the mental hurdle of "The Ground is Harder at 46"?

TL;DR: 46yo dad learning with son. Even though I wear full pads, I took two heavy shoulder slams and now I’m spooked. Using a split truck setup and a balance board, but struggling with confidence. Help!
