Breaking the taboo silence around money

I’m curious what everyone’s financial situation looks like while in school

Between loans, savings, investments, or credit card debt, where are you roughly at right now?

For context, I’m sitting at about $35k in student loans and about $10k in savings and investments

No judgment at all lol. I think it would be helpful to get a more realistic picture of where people stand

sustainable energy engineering

I’m in grade 12 looking to go to sfu but can’t decide between eng sci or see. Can anyone who’s doing or has done see tell me how it is, their experience, and how the employability is like with such a specific degree?

Looking for students with iron deficiency or anemia.

I’m a Vancouver-based journalism student working on a feature for the Vancouver Sun about what it’s actually like to live with iron deficiency and anemia in B.C.

I’m especially hoping to speak with student who have experienced things like:

- constant fatigue or low energy ( caused by iron deficiency or anemia)

- brain fog or trouble concentrating in class (…)

- constant burnouts (…)

- struggling academically or socially because of these symptoms

- being diagnosed late or not taken seriously

If this is something you’ve dealt with, I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences.

Even a short message is helpful to start, and I can explain more about the story if you are interested.

A couple of notes:

- You need to be based in B.C.

- Be studying at the moment

- This is for a published newspaper feature, so participants should be comfortable being quoted by name.

Feel free to comment or message me directly- thank you!

Advice: PDP

hello! i recently got into the PDP for elementary, i’m looking to connect with students who are currently in the program, to help make my decision. i have recently been hearing that there are a few students in the program currently who wouldn’t recommend it, but i wanted to clarify and get some more information and opinions.

essentially; would you recommend the program, why or why not? what stands out for you in the program? what is the schedule like? further information such as dorming, and fees would be super helpful!!

thank you :)

Absence from final exam question

When you can’t take a final due to being sick, when does the professor make you take the final? In the beginning of next semester?

REM 100 - Scott Harrison

If anyone was in REM 100 this spring semester can we PLEASE talk about Scott 😭 cuz idk if I’m the only one but I absolutely hated every second of his course. I took this course as an elective cuz it seemed relatively easy since it’s a 100 level course that’s literally online, but tell me why it was my worst grade of the semester💀 it’s not like I wasn’t watching the videos or not doing the discussions because I was, but he’s just a hard ass grader, as if I ate his fucking dog or smt. Like on one of the assignments I got a 77% with absolutely no feedback?!! And mind u that grade took almost a month to come out. Someone tell if they also felt the same or im jus dramatic asf

PDP 2026 - Thoughts?

I feel like I haven’t seen many people post about getting in or rejected from this year’s application especially compared to the last. Were you accepted/rejected and what did your experience look like? I haven’t heard back yet and have been having intense anxiety since last week.

A little bit about me, I have about 1,500+ hours working in two before and after school age programs as well as being a volunteer for a after school reading program with approximately 75 hours. I also worked as a BI for approximately 600 hours and I also have a 3.5 gpa currently as well. I’m a bit worried since I don’t really have any in-class volunteering hours.

SFU BEEDIE VS UVIC BCOM?

Hello, I got accepted into both SFU Beedie and UVIC Gustavson School. I need help deciding which one is better. I am trying to pursue accounting in the future, and I know that SFU has all the prerequisites for the CPA. On the other hand, I do reside in Victoria and was offered a scholarship from UVIC. It would be greatly appreciated if you guys could share your experiences with both schools and talk about which program is better. Thanks!

I didn't get into PDP

The title says it all. I applied to be a visual arts secondary school teacher. The email said I didn't have a 4-year (120 units) degree with a teachable subject, even though I have 140 units.

I have about 60 units in EDUC courses. I have my BGS (minor in Instruction and Curriculum and Social Justice in Education).

As a teachable subject, in Visual Arts, I have a minor in Contemporary Art (60 units with 24 being in upper division). The remaining units are from WQB and electives. All of my courses were taken at SFU.

I think I should have majored in Art instead of EDUC to be a high school art teacher. I told the academic advisors in the Faculty of Education that I wanted to be a high school art teacher several times, but not once did they point me in the "right direction".

I feel like I have thrown my whole academic life away. I feel like I have been lied to. I am getting different answers as to what qualifies as a teachable subject for the PDP program. I feel like the whole application process is extremely unorganized.

If anyone knows people who did PDP with visual art as their teachable, please let me know.

I really need support right now.
