Is this a pure Rough collie?

Hi so my mom gave me a dog and the dog was unfortunately form a byb. But the person we bought my puppy from claims that the mom is a rough collie. But imo she don’t look like one.
I came to this subreddit to ask you guys because I don’t know so much about rough collies.

(The pictures is not my dog it’s the mother to my puppy)
My puppy is an rough collie/aussie/ flat coated retriver mix. He is 6 months old now

Edit: after these comments I really got interested about what breeds he can have in his dna. Would be cool to know.

This is Lukas, my Rough Collie, in northern Minnesota. I still don’t know how he held still for the full exposure.

Anyone else always getting the "your dog is gorgeous" comment??

I constantly get this while I’m out with her on our daily walks! I am kinda over the same comment lmao but I can see where they are coming from as I think they are beautiful too.

New to the Rough Collie Fam

We picked up this sweet 4 month old last night unexpectedly. I’ve had dogs my entire life, mostly labs, including my first as an adult who lived to be 13 and passed about 1.5 years ago. My son is over the moon about having a dog again and I’ve been pouring through this subreddit for tips and tricks, especially with the beautiful coat maintenance!

Edit: feel free to comment with your proven tips/tricks, links to favorite supplies, etc!

Flipped sides, but my babies!

Man the time flies! Mango has the white on her face, while Lemon is our darker baby.

What is funny is that Mango was the largest of the litter at birth and 9 weeks, but these days Lemon is our sturdier, fluffier gal. (And don’t worry, we’ve taken steps to prevent littermate syndrome! They just pose adorable still sometimes.)

Someone finally went up the stairs all on her own for the first time at 9 months old

Guinevere has done fine with porch steps, or just a few stairs, but not a full flight of stairs. She has been too scared or anxious to go up on her own to the second floor of our home until now! I went up, a few minutes later I turn around and there she was, right behind me. She got lots of praise and pets, then she was too scared to go DOWN and had to be carried. Hopefully she will go down on her own soon!

The stairs are carpeted, but are a bit short and steep, even my other pup hates these stairs, so I'm very proud of Gwenny.

Tick prevention

I just found an engorged tick on my kitchen floor. Am freaking out! (Never saw a tick before two weeks ago!)

Live in northern Nevada, have two dogs, Bernese Mountain Dog and Rough Collie. BMD is taking nexgard but that doesn’t do anything for ticks.

Wondering if anyone has used Seresto collar for tick prevention? Does it work on these hairy dogs?

Thanks in advance

Kumi our 9yr old collie passed away last night.

She developed SAD last month and 12hrs after her MRI & spinal tap, lost all mobility. Our specialist said that surgery would give her better than a 50% shot. We took it.

She developed pneumonia after surgery last Monday. He didnt do an x-ray to confirm it was pneumonia til Saturday, but her breathing and fever made him suspect it. She was on antibiotics but her fever kept returning. Saturday, they called and said she hadnt had a fever for over 12hrs and could likely get her Sunday morning. But at 10pm, the vet called and said it was back and she was put on a feeding tube? I didnt even know she hadnt been eating.

We visited her Sunday and her breathing was awful. I wanted to just put her down, but the vet said its just the pneumonia and she hadnt been that bad most days. Then my sister visited her yesterday and said she was asleep for the hour she was there. Which made no sense to me. 20 mins later the vet called and said he was doing CPR and wanted to know if I wanted him to further resuscitate her.. I said no. She just died.

I'm honestly still processing everything. We did everything on the planet for her. Maybe that wasnt the right decision but prior to her surgery, she was in great health. Happy. And while the Vet claimed 9 was "old", its not an old dog to me. Even if her lifespan was 12 or 13, thats close to 25%-30% of her lifespan. I've never had a dog die before double digits, seemed impossible.

Its hard to imagine not having her and her giant beak. She was the best dog. Ik everyone says that. But, she never jumped up, would walk right by your side perfectly on a leash, never pulling. So gentle. But with a harness she'd go urban mushing and pull me on a cart. She was a privilege to own.

Waiting patiently for games

Staring at the gate, patiently waiting for one of his friends to arrive for some games. We have the hoop as a back-up in case we are out of luck today!

How do I properly brush his coat?

Hi, this is my first pup. He’s 12 weeks old. I just now got a slicker brush and comb (I’ve been using the wrong brush) today. I’ve had Copper for 3 weeks. I started noticing mats yesterday, so I figured out what I was doing wrong.

I spent maybe 5-10 minutes brushing his coat, attempting the line brush technique. The only way I can is if he’s occupied licking PB, otherwise he wants to eat the brush.

I got a mountain of fur but there’s still so many areas that need brushed. I called it quits for the day because I can’t overdo it on the PB lol. I don’t mind putting the work in but I need to know how exactly to go about this.

Any tips or suggestions you have I will GREATLY appreciate, thank you!!
