Large yard recommendations

I’ve been looking at reviews everywhere to make a best decision on a robot lawnmower and need help. We have 7-8 acres to mow and the mowing season here is close to 8 months out of the year. It used to be farmland, so lots of bumps in places where the crops used to be, lots of dandelions, the grass type varies and grows pretty fast after a rain. I’m not looking for perfectly manicured, just quantity to try and save time. I’m aware we would probably need multiple units to do the whole of it but I’m just going to start with one if I can find a good fit and see how that does.

My biggest concerns are the blades, reliability, warranty and customer service.

I was leaning towards real blades but have seen a lot of negative feedback about them and I’m worried razor blade types may not be able to handle the job because of the grass/weed variety.

It’s a big purchase for me, so I would appreciate any helpful information or advice. I’m looking to buy one that will do at least 1.5 acres a day. (I have already crossed yarbo off my list based off the reviews on here)

Segway Navimov 430 vs. Ecovacs GOAT A3000

Almost ready to pull the trigger on the Navimov but the Ecovacs seems to have trimmer functionality. Any thoughts on whether it would be better to get that instead?

Germany wants night ban on robot mowers to save hedgehogs

German mayors are pushing for a nighttime ban on robot lawnmowers to protect hedgehogs, which are endangered and active at night.
Most robotic mowers only use collision detection and can’t spot small animals, turning gardens into deadly traps for them.
Brands like Worx and Dreame have already launched animal-friendly modes: Worx adjusts mowing schedules automatically, while Dreame uses visual sensors to avoid small wildlife.
This isn’t just an environmental issue—it’s a new compliance and tech standard for the whole garden robot industry, especially for companies selling in Europe.

Breakeven analysis

I have narrowed down on a Segway Navimow 430x. Lawn requiring mowing is 0.57 acres. Total cost comes close to $2400. Local landscaper charges $45 per week. Assuming lawn care for 6 months in a year, it would take me 2.2 years to breakeven. And I have to do my own edging with the robotic lawnmower. Is it really a wise investment given the breakeven time?

The right mower

I used the entry level Segway navimow 2 years ago. I ultimately returned it because it threw itself into my pool, 6 feet out of bounds. The mower cut great, but I had some major gripes with the software. Is there anything better out there now? I've got a simple yard.

  1. When I wanted to mow my front yard, I had to let the mower out and if I didn't come back at the right time, the mower. would grind against the fence. I want a mower that will stop at the gate and notify me to let it in.

  2. I would receive random failure to start errors where I had to go reset the mower.

  3. The mower app was finicky with start/stop and over felt like the hardware was better than the software.

Cable on the grass or in the ground

I bought a Kress Mission Nano KR101E, but I’m not sure whether I should lay the cable on the grass (and let the grass grow over it in about 3 - 4 weeks) or of I should put the cable in the ground?

In the manual it states that the cable has to go in the ground, but I’ve read a few people say that putting the cable in the grass is way easier and barely visible after a few weeks.

Any tips and/or advice are/is welcome!

Robot for Bermuda

Hello all.

I have been researching robot mowers and Have found various answers.

What cutting height do you use for Bermuda on a small, relatively flat yard? I’ve seen 0.8” suggested but also 1.2”.

The newest tech for less than $1500 would be great.

I have looked at the Mova Lidax 1000 that goes to 1.2”, but I think that there is a Mammotion one that goes to 0.8”.

Navimow i215 leaving spots

Just got a new Navimow i215 and have been noticing it leaving some gaps in coverage when it turns around. This is a very flat section of my yard and I can’t quite figure out why it’s turning early. Am I missing a setting? Anyone dealt with this?

How to manage difficult zones?

My X430 is supposed to be delivered by mid May.

I'm wondering how I could manage specific difficult zones: my garden has rockeries the X430 should manage carefully.

What do you recommend me to do when configuring the map?

Navimow X430 vs x330

Hello Folks- see my previous post below. A dealer is advising to get the 330 instead of the 430 due to less complexity and lesser risk of AWD components breaking in the future. Dealer agrees 430 is best bang for the buck now but will consume more battery cycles resulting in higher battery replacement cost (2x compared to 1x for the 330 assuming a 6 year life of the unit itself). Additionally he says the price of servicing and replacing AWD parts in long run will be more expensive. Thoughts?
