In my dream, people have known that 2+2=4 for centuries and it was just, like... A well-known fact. But about ten years ago, Trump said that 2+2 actually equaled 5, and suddenly about a third of the US began believing it. People would spend hours arguing online trying to prove that 2+2=4 but the Believers wouldn't cave.

Then audio came out of President Trump saying that he never ACTUALLY believed that 2+2=5, he just wanted to see who would go along with it. Suddenly, the Trump fan base exploded. Some people weren't believing that he could lie, others were doubling down that 2+2=5, others were acting like they knew it equaled 4 all along but were just playing along with Trump. People began asking Trump about the discourse and he just acted like it never even happened. About a week later, attention shifted to something else and people forgot it ever happened.

This was in no way inspired by real-life events /s
