I cleaned up what I thought was cat poop on my patio area. Used gloves and bags and was careful but no mask. Triple bagged and then washed an continued working outside. Doused the are in bleach because it was in a rock bed. Realized later it was racoon poop. Docs are working on what dose and for how long (800mg fir 20 days?!l) for prophylaxis per the cdc. I played with my 2yo and held her outside nearby and while I was wearing the same clothes. I am freaking out about getting these worm as the infection eyes and brain and can kill you. But also freaking out about the medication

Has anyone had to do prophylaxis? Should I def treat my kiddo too?

The amount of times I've said "I wish I had a pet racoon", only to realize how foolish that was today after spending an entire day caring for a 5-6 week old kit.

What a handful and a half he is 😂

Though my time today has been very sweet, funny, and joyous, and I've thoroughly enjoyed it, I have realized I am out of my element and am glad he'll be going to a sanctuary rehab on Wednesday to live with more racoons, though if I'm being completely honest with myself, I will forever miss him and wonder how he's doing. What a sweet little fella- so rambunctious and full of mischief.

It was such a pleasure to have the opportunity to care for him if even only for 2.5 days.

You will always hold a special place in my heart Mr. Dennis the Menace ♥️ :')

Is this baby old enough to survive?

This baby has been hanging around my job site for some time now. We see mama every now and then, but more often than not, it’s baby walking about and saying hello. I haven’t seen mama for a while (not to say she isn’t around, it’s a large job site), at what point should we start worrying about this baby?

Help! Raccoon removal???

I have a raccoon that came in through the doggie door once and ate my dog’s food and snacks. We’ve locked the doggie door and have kept it shut. But since then, it’s made several attempts to get back into my home and is hanging out on my deck. Animal control wont touch it unless it is inside the home, then only releases it back into the yard. Same for the private service I called. The other raccoon removal service only comes if it made a hole to get into the home. Now I’m freaked out it is going to find some other way into my home or spread disease to my dog and family through feces in my backyard. Does anyone know who I can call to have it trapped and removed away from my property???
