Why don't games like Tomba (tombi) exist anymore?

https://preview.redd.it/ly0wlg6vlmug1.png?width=316&format=png&auto=webp&s=445cc4044275ab304ba6aea1a3490cf7a3582bb8

Tomba is undoubtedly one of my all-time favorite games. The idea of a platformer with missions where you can (and should) go back through maps, open new paths, and interact with NPCs has always captivated me. Plus, the 90s anime aesthetic with its 2.5D graphics has always left me speechless. I know Whoppecamp went bankrupt sometime later, but I feel sad because I never found a spiritual successor to it.

I need some helping with mods

So as of today I just bought a PS1 (SCPH-7501) and ive been very confused with the modding stuff around it. I’ve seen PSIO isn’t good but then also xStation doesn’t seem compatible for mine too. I’ve seen some soft mods but it seems like they only really allow you to play burned discs and I don’t have an CD’s laying around, just DVD’s. If I could get some advice or something better explain to me that would help so much and thanks in advance.

Question: is my case ruined?

I bought this the other day and there were some stickers on it so i used a product to remove stickiness from pulled stickers.

Now im left with this, a scratched up case now I don’t know if it’s glue on the case or the product damaged the case.

Does anyone know?

When it's only $5 more for a sealed copy, why not?

I know there will be division in the comments over this one, but come on, it was $25. The game doesn't stop existing just because I opened the seal. I believe games should be played and not sit sealed on a shelf by a collector trying/hoping to make a quick buck.

PS1 with Picostation - weird sound glitches

Hi everyone,

I finally got my PS1 SCPH-5552 (PU-18)! I gave it to a local repairman friend who installed Picostation for me. The mod seems to be working fine. Menus load correctly, and games usually launch as well.

However, I've encountered a problem with the sound. The PS1 boot sound is mostly noise, with faint background sounds of what should be playing.

SFX in games is a strange metallic squeaking sound, but these sounds usually occur at moments when they should actually be played, such as menu sound effects when pressing the D-pad. In racing games, engine sounds are audible, but they're unbearably high-pitched and metallic like something from the NES, but the background music plays properly.

My PS1 works with an RGB cable connected to GBS-C. I've confirmed that the problem also occurs with the composite jack adapter on my TV.

I also made sure that only the pins indicated in the Picostation schematics are lifted on the CXD2925Q chip.

Where could the problem be? Are some of the capacitors failing or is it something else?

Terrorist game on Playstation 1

I'm sorry if this is vague and random, but I figured this might be a better place to find answers. Many years ago (2001-2003), I was in Mexico visiting family. I brought my PS1 with me to kill time, as there was usually very little to do out in the rural area I visited. My cousin had a bunch of games he brought over, and come to think of it, I think most of them were bootleg. In Mexico, there would be bazaars filled with stands that lined up the streets, and I do recall seeing video games for sale, but all of them had cheap covers that were printed off on plain white paper. One game he had was one of the most bizarre things I had ever encountered.

On the front of this game, there was a picture of the Twin Towers under attack on 9/11. Next to them was a picture of Osama Bin Laden and he was blended into the background. I have no clue what the title of this game was, nor do I remember any other things on the cover, but you get the idea. The fact that the game was actually playable was even stranger!

I put the game in my PS1, and was stunned to see there was even an animated intro. From what I recall, it was a montage of a group of terrorists entering a skyscraper and causing hell. They planted a bomb at the bottom of a building, it explodes and they make their way up the tower. They eventually kick down a door to a banquet that was in progress and begin to shoot everyone in the room. To be honest, I'm sure there's more that happens in the intro but those scenes are the ones that stuck with me the most. Eventually the chaotic intro fades to the title screen, which I believe was similar to the cover of the game. I wish I had wrote this sooner when everything was still fresh on my mind, but to the best of my ability I have written everything that I remember.

As far as game play, I don't think I got very far. In fact, the game might have been unplayable, as I don't recall anything about it! It may have been due to my controller, I do remember having controllers without analog at one point. I do know the first mission of the game started you in an elevator, and I'm assuming you are at the tower from the intro.

Anyways, does anyone have any idea what I might have played that day? Al-Queda propaganda? I've Google searched for years whenever this experience comes to mind, but I never get far. I would not know where to start. Any information would be interesting to learn! I'm not expecting to find a copy of the game.

Where to put an sd card slot in a pi pico mod

So I am going to mod two ps1 with pi pico, both have fully working disc drives so reluctant to remove them.

Any suggestions where I can put the sd card slot which is easily accessible without cutting an ugly hole in it somewhere?

Any ideas please?

I am losing my ****ing mind. Modding Cool Boarders 2.

Hello all,

3 days ago I attempted to make my own hard mod for the game Cool Boarders 2.

The mod was going to allow access to play as NPC only characters Nick, Jicchi, & Kelly.

Fulfilling my childhood dream is turning into a nightmare.

I've tried using claude & chatgpt. Along with codex, and I have gotten no where.

If anyone has any suggestions, ill greatly appreciate it

If I could somehow get the games code, I feel that would help greatly.
