Why don't games like Tomba (tombi) exist anymore?

Tomba is undoubtedly one of my all-time favorite games. The idea of a platformer with missions where you can (and should) go back through maps, open new paths, and interact with NPCs has always captivated me. Plus, the 90s anime aesthetic with its 2.5D graphics has always left me speechless. I know Whoppecamp went bankrupt sometime later, but I feel sad because I never found a spiritual successor to it.
