I joined the club

Finally found a Prius that passed all my inspections. Seemed like it would never happen. 2015 prius,127k, 14k after (ca) taxes and fees. Ideally I would have liked it for around 11-12k but after driving all over the place looking at them, driving them, plugging into them and deciding most of them were a waste of time, I was kinda over the search and was willing to pay a little more just to end the madness of wasting all my free time searching for a good one.

Painting rims, need opinions

I need opinions.

I have received a full set of free Gen3 rims from my neighbor that matched the tire size of my 2016 Gen4 rims. (so i now have a winter and summer set)

As my white Gen4 came with full black rims I didn't want to fit grey rims to the car so i decided to paint them.

This is my first attempt at painting rims but i'm not sure i like the design choice I've made with a black and white combo.

What do you guys say, go with the black&white or stick to full black?

these pictures are before 2k clearcoat so the end result will have a glossy shine to it.

Advice For New Owner?

Hello - I just joined this sub. I'm getting very serious about purchasing my first hybrid being a 2025 Prius Nightshade. I was looking for community suggestions, things to know that may have not come up in my research?

I've watched several YouTube videos, read many articles but my test drive will be tomorrow. Also, I'm 6'2 so curious about driver seating. Thanks for anything (suggestions, comments or advice)

Newly bought 2023 Prius getting seemingly poor MPG?

I recently bought a 2023 Prius LE with 37000 miles. I filled the tank for the first time and the dash read that it could drive around 300 miles on the tank. I googled it and saw that is poor mileage for a Prius. Should I be concerned? TIA

What is this in the spare tire well?

Hey, purchased a 2008 Prius standard yesterday. Can somebody tell me if this is normal? What is all this tape stuff in the sparer tire well? Also there’s some yellow liquid pooling?

I’m a bit disheartened by the purchase, thought I was jumping on a good deal (low miles) but the check engine light (P0420) and TPMS light won’t go off. Also only getting like 30mpg even with a light foot.

Coolant bypass in engine - ok to leave pipes open?

2018 Prius with 80k miles.

I followed this video for the bypass for coolant leaking into the catalytic converter. https://youtu.be/fKaH\_\_FKIAc?si=4l653GEmZUPTRYAf

The image on this post is AFTER the fix where the heat exchanger is being bypassed. The guy left these two pipes open and I'm wondering if it's ok to do so or if I should cap them?

Finally washed her and took for a long spin

getting rid of winter salt and spring pollen for sure added couple bits of mpg. 200 mile round trip at 55-65 mph by gps (67 mph dash).

08, 172k miles, lifetime average 39 mpg (since august 2025, but i have very short commute and rare highway weekend trips).

filling 8 gallons at 350-355 miles, hoping to push for 400-450 miles some day to see 10 gallons with blinking starting at 300 miles. getting better as earlier never filled more than 6.

Gen 2 prius, seeping transmission

I have a 2007 with 216k miles, for the past few months my transmission has been seeping. It hasn’t affected fluid levels for me to be concerned yet, but I love this car and want to address it before it becomes a problem. She still runs beautifully.

Is there a shop in the DMV area that you all would suggest I bring it to for transmission work? Or any suggestions as to how I should handle it? Willing to travel a little to get her fixed right. I have some experience working on cars, but not much and don’t wanna mess her up.

Any advice is appreciated!

I don't have a prius bought an rx400h, we don't have a seperate subreddit for those

Looking for advice on driving tips, and anything else related to maximizing my fuel economy and battery acclimation.

Has anyone adjusted the battery cooling fan temperature sensitivity? And is there any better performance with keeping the batteries cooler than 104 degrees? I live in Florida

Prius had ABS issues, been at mechanic for over a month, don't know if this is normal

This is going to be kind of a vent on my part, but my 2007 Prius has been having some issues with the ABS pump and we finally got in contact with a mechanic who could do the job. He's pretty busy and has other cars to work on, which is completely fine. That's how he gets money, good for him honestly. The issue that I'm most concerned with is the fact he's given 0 updates whatsoever on my car. Despite him giving me his number, he doesn't answer texts, doesn't answer calls, and if I were to ask for updates/answers I have to go to him in person. I went over there after a week and he said to me directly "Your car is going to be worked on next, I promise." and now a month has passed.

Me and my family now desperately need this car back as soon as possible. Is this a normal timeframe for an ABS Pump fix? Should I try to get a refund and go to Toyota directly instead?

2011 Prius coolant/overheating

I just was driving my 2011 Prius with 234k miles today getting on the interstate. As I hit 72 mph, my temp light came on, and then my check engine light. I pulled over quickly and turned the car off.

Coolant spewed all over the passenger side of the engine bay, ALL over the place, probably half a gallon. Gurgling back into the coolant reservoir. I'm hoping the water pump is bad, but idk. The head gasket was pressure tested yesterday for 4 hours at an auto repair shop.

The engine didn't even misfire as far as I know at that point.

Am I cooked? Well, I guess you could say is my engine cooked? I really hope not. I'm worried the head gasket popped from the heat. I pulled over and turned the car off within 8 seconds.

I got it towed to a shop, I'll know more Monday morning.

I drive probably 1k miles a week as of the last few weeks but it ends soon. did I drive the car into the ground? the EGR cooler valve has been replaced, I'm 90% sure.
