UPM OT vs PLM Emed dilemma

good day! i really need help in deciding whether to pursue UPM OT or PLM Emed. i'm really set to pursue OT na after all the CETs are released. however, i got reconsidered in PLM Emed (accelerated medicine program). before, i was really set na to pursue medicine that's why i tried the accelerated medicine programs. but now, i'm starting to love OT (i rejected other acceperated medicine programs kasi mahal) plano ko sana if magdecide na po ako hindi mag medicine after OT at least i have a back up plan.

thank you so much!

thank you so much po!

Torn between UPD BS Econ and PLM Accelerated Medicine (eMed)

Hi! I'm an incoming freshman from a science high school and I'm stuck between two very different paths. Would really appreciate some perspective.

The options:

UPD BS Economics vs PLM Accelerated Medicine (eMed)

My situation:

I come from a middle-class family. My parents are fully supportive and said they'll back me until I graduate, but we'll have to tighten our finances either way so I want to make this count. They gave me the freedom to choose, which honestly makes it harder.

A bit about me:

I'm a science high school grad (4th from my batch), strong in science, and I've joined multiple research competitions and science quiz bees. Math is not my strongest subject which makes me second-guess Econ sometimes. I'm genuinely aware that medicine means being okay with being underpaid and overworked especially in the PH context, but I'm not sure if I'm at peace with it yet. Honestly I don't fully know what I want yet, and that's the core of my problem.

What's pulling me toward eMed: My science background feels like a natural fit, and the accelerated program means I get to skip the premed grind. But the financial and emotional cost of medicine is real, and I don't want to commit to something this heavy without being sure.

What's pulling me toward Econ: It's UP, the degree is versatile, and there are so many career paths that open up. But I worry about the math load and whether I'll find it fulfilling long-term.

For those who took either path or switched between them, what do you wish you knew before deciding? Is it okay to enter medicine without being 100% sure yet? And for Econ peeps, how math-heavy is it really in UP?

I'd also love to hear from people actually working in either field what does the starting salary realistically look like, and how wide are the career opportunities? Like for Econ grads, what industries do you usually end up in? And for doctors, is the pay really as discouraging as people say, especially in the first few years after residency?

Thanks in advance 🙏

We had an event kanina sa program org namin, and I just can't believe how it went. And eto yung malala cause this was the one that triggered me. And you really had the audacity to ask for his surname pa on mic. That's too insensitive of you. Marami kang pwedeng piliin na words na much nicer to say, pero you didn't even think twice and minock pa? Bawas bawasan 'yong pagiging atichona. I-ayon sa mukha.

CALLING OUT STUDENT LEADERS AND THE ADMINISTRATION - UNAUTHORIZED SOLICITATION ON STUDENTS

Calling out the attention of CN student leaders and administration

There are 2 BLOCKS that had a duty rotation in a health center this semester. This May we received an announcement that we are being requested to donate 150 PESOS each student for a total of nearly 13000 pesos total. The deadline was moved from May 6 to tomorrow, May 11, 2026 and that we need to upload our proof of payment in a Google Drive for “tracking purposes”. 100 pesos is reported to be for staff food, 50 pesos is for buying an equipment.

The collection has no formal announcement nor memo from the Dean or BOR. Under the RA 5546, unauthorized solicitation and collection is not allowed, mandatory or voluntary as strengthened by the RA 10931. Look it up!

Many students felt pressured and were complaining regarding this collection, fellow classmates felt forced in giving the money as it wasn’t clear if this will have an impact on the academic standing and clinical grades, as no formal announcement were made.

Few were struggling and felt powerless in getting the money just to give here. And feared speaking up against this collection. Why is this being relayed by the officers not through an official announcement. As scholars and students of a tuition-free university this is unfair and coercive.

Please uphold the integrity of our profession and the rights of us, the students.

Hi! Incoming freshman here and I’m considering PLM, specifically Mechanical Engineering.

Medyo kinakabahan lang ako about sa retention policy. Naririnig ko kasi na kailangan ma-maintain yung GWA below 3.00, and if not, possible matanggal sa program or school. Like, common ba na may nalalaglag dahil sa grades?

Concern ko lang kasi, what if okay naman ako overall pero may one or two subjects na bumaba, tapos mahatak yung GWA ko. Mahirap din kasi for me na mag-transfer if ever since hindi namin afford ang private schools.

Gusto ko lang sana ng honest insights:

  1. Kamusta yung environment sa Engineering?

  2. Mahirap ba i-maintain yung required GWA?

  3. Kumusta mga profs—okay ba magturo, considerate ba?

  4. Manageable ba yung workload if masipag ka?

Any experiences or advice would really help. Thank you!

i'm still not completely over the fact that the cpa student won as the ssc president. her time as president in the cpa-sc was barely felt and nearly none of their entire administration could be approached for help as they always answered with idontknows hahaha talk about incompetent

she made an oath to serve the student body but the moment she gunned for a higher position she dropped that title so fast no one saw it coming.

a lot of people are defending her sa tambayan because she's kind and she (verbatim) "lights up every room she's in" but none of those qualities exactly scream good leadership 🫠

girl really ran for clout and won i guess

Ano rin mga good things ang na-experience niyo ngayong college life, especially in PLM, na you will cherish forever?

i'm laughing at the comments on tam (I refuse to comment there because it's not exactly confidential hahaha) because they say my accusations are baseless and I nitpicked ms par as a leader, but isn't that what we do to the elected officials of this country?

they are elected not to be understood but to understand the constituents they serve. we didn't put them there to defend their shortcomings but to get the service they promised us.

"she was still helping out even though she resigned" 😭 that doesn't mean anything because she resigned. if she really wanted to be present for the student body she wouldn't have resigned at all. "you know nothing" wala talaga akong alam because there are almost no statements from them of accountability for canceled events and NO events at all. what am I expected to know if their posts are just meetings with no action? You get angry when politicians do nothing, but because I complained na hindi sila kumikilos, I suddenly don't understand? Pick a side naman.

their administration has many shortcomings and I'm not lying when i say na whenever people talk to them at the faculty, always "i don't know" ang answers when people have concerns

i admire students who choose to run for council even though they have an academic workload, but you have to know your duties that comes with it.

Hello po! I recently got accepted into the EMed program of PLM and have a lot of questions regarding the program. Are there current EMed students here from the first batch whom I could ask about the following?:

  1. Financial Aspects

  2. Scholarship Opportunities

  3. Skills and dedication of professors

  4. Practical Med Applications like training

  5. Return Service details

  6. Other possible lessons and books for advanced studying

Thank you so much po, ates & kuyas!
