Heads up for people leaving the office today, at Nicholas onwards (heading east) there’s puddles of fecal waste on the second lane from the left. The smell is putrid…
Hello Ottawa,
Long time reddit lurker, first time poster.
I'm trying to help a friend who has been going through a rough time the last couple of years. She lost her job during the pandemic and has been trying to find another one since. Without a job, she's lost everything, has even been homeless, and is frankly struggling to hold on at this point. Now, her beloved cat is at the end of her life and she's desperate to help her, which is obviously hard to do without an income.
She's applied on countless jobs, anything and everything. She worked for the federal government for a while and also has a lot of retail experience.
A lot of resources have been looked into (placement agencies, job banks, pet help services).
I know a lot of people are struggling and need help these days. I just thought maybe I could put this out there and see if, with any luck, someone knows of something or is looking to hire. Downtown would be perfect, as she could walk, however if something is accessible by bus, that could work too.
If you know of anything, please feel free to comment or reach out (I can also send you her LinkedIn page so you can see her experience and schooling).
Thank you so much for reading. I hope everyone is hanging in there.
ETA: She's a college graduate in administrative studies. Experience in admin/office work, travel planning, etc. at PSPC and Indigenous Services. Also a bunch of retail experience.
Previous threads mention options that aren’t available anymore (e.g., Dr. Johneen Manning), so I’m looking for updated recommendations.
I’m trying to find a place where I can get a Pap smear without a referral as I do have a family doctor, but they won’t refer me elsewhere because they offer Pap tests at their own clinic, however their clinic only runs one week per month, and it consistently falls during my period. Since it’s not recommended to do the test while menstruating due to possible inconclusive results, I’ve had to postpone it for the past three months.
At this point, I don’t want to keep delaying. Does anyone know of clinics or providers where I can book a Pap test directly without a referral?
I don't have a ton of money and I am looking for a basic woman's haircut. Downtown or close to it, preferably. TiA.
Waited over 10 mins for a bus and line 2 train. The 1 min reminder announcement brought everyone to the platform only for the train to never show up.
How much more can OCtranspo disappoint after a pathetic winter performance?? No weather excuses can be used today.
I was watching the Premier's press conference/Q&A he just had as he's in the city for the Canadian Chamber’s Future of Business Summit. A reporter asked him a question about uploading the LRT to the province (promised during the last election), to which he had an interesting contradictory answer.
----
My transcription:
Q: Premier, how did your meeting go with Mayor Mark Suttcliffe and did you discuss uploading the LRT?
A: Yeah actually I just said hello to him but we're going to sit down shortly. We're going to have discussions about uploading the LRT. We committed to it, we committed to uploading 174 as well which really that was part of the deal, the LRT wasn't. So we're focused on uploading 174. Again, taking the burden off the backs of the people of Ottawa and we're going to continue working with the mayor. We have a great relationship, a great partnership, he's a wonderful mayor.

Now I prefer not to turn this post all political or rage bait, but did I misunderstand his answer that it's not a priority/promise anymore? Did he misspeak? There has been a few posts recently in this subreddit about the silence on the LRT upload...
it was a glowing fireball that shot by so quickly, i thought i imagined it. but the sky was so clear and it was so vivid. turns out the lyrid meteor shower is at its peak over the next couple days.

Hello! I just moved to Ottawa, and am in need of an outdoor spot to sit and ponder the world at. I need recommendations for somewhere I can gaze around while sitting and thinking about life. I would love to find a secluded spot that I can hide away at, but also hoping for relatively safe areas. Bonus if there’s parking close by and a good view!
Btw: please don’t be concerned I am 100% fine emotionally, I just really like solitude outdoors!
Hi all!
I went to a few different places in Ottawa on Saturday and wound up with an iPhone in my back seat. I don’t know who it belongs to, how it got there, or why it’s in MY car as I didn’t have any passengers with me. As far as I know, my doors were locked at each place I went, so now I’m on a goose chase trying to find the owner.
The places I went include: Local Heroes off Clyde and Merivale, the karaoke bar across the street, and the Mcdonald’s on Meadowlands.
The phone seems to be a pro version, maybe a model between the iPhone 11-14 as it still uses the original charging cable. Colour is light blue.
I charged the phone and don’t see any missed calls, can’t access Siri or an emergency contact, and my own personal phone doesn’t have a SIM card so I can’t take theirs out and put it into my own.
If you know of someone who lost their iPhone or you are the one who lost their phone this weekend, send me a message with the carrier name and the lock screen photo so I can bring it back to you!
I will be dropping it off at the police station on Greenbank by Wednesday if I still can’t find the owner.
Thanks!
