Hi first time poster and new to the group so apologies if anything has been posted before. I’m currently studying OT under a a degree apprenticeship. I have a great educator who loves having a student and is really making my experience positive.

Can I ask why so many other people apparently don’t like having students? Or aren’t very forthcoming to help? I’ve heard a lot of horror stories from qualified OT staff and seen certain staff behave negatively toward students.

Im currently a psych undergrad student finishing yr2, and realised i REALLY want to go into OT, but obvs there are v few MSc courses around. Im worried as its 2 yrs and ik friends doing undergrad placements (for teaching and social work) who arent allowed to work a job during thier course. While i understand placements are important and v taxing i wont be able to support myself through a masters w/out a job, as it is im working 2 to get through my undergrad.

Does anyone have any advice/knowledge if i can work or if its just not reccomeneded?

Also, are there any other pathways to getting qualifed as an OT w/out redoing my undergrad as i wont get funding for another. Mabye a MSc apprentiship if any exist??

UK only,

Ty

Hi all, I've been having some health related deterioration in relation to both some chemical exposure from a building environment and some housing suitability related issues. Which combined are affecting underlying conditions I have, health & disability management/improvement and my ability to work and daily living.

So I asked my GP if an Occupational Therapist could assist as that was some advice I received but he said they are only available via NHS referral to Social Services.

I do not want to be dealing with social services so I would just like to check if this is actually true. Is this advice correct?
