Hi all! I come seeking your advice, as someone who's only been living here 5 months.

I was offered a fellowship overseas that I'd love to pursue, but it would mean that I have to break my lease. I'm living in Flatbush in a new build about 4 minutes' walk from the 2 line. It's one bedroom and I pay 2815 monthly. I could sublet it furnished or unfurnished, though unfurnished might logistically make more sense (if I rented it furnished, I'd have to enlist the help of a friend to coordinate the move-out of my stuff into storage when the sublease is done).

For context, the building I'm in is new, and they have not been able to fill it completely; it's taken them since July 2025 to fill 92% of the available units. It's a nice building that I'm very comfortable in, and I'd be willing to lower the sublet cost or change the rental period to just the semester (Sept-Dec) if that's advisable.

This fellowship is a rare opportunity for me, but I'm trying to get real about whether it will ruin me financially. I know nothing is guaranteed, but I'd be so grateful for any advice this community had to offer! Thank you in advance.

Hi All,

Unfortunately, a family emergency came up recently, where I have to move to Taiwan. I signed a 13 month lease that ends in October 2026.

I am looking to sublease my 1 BD / 1 BA at the Declan in Weehawken, NJ from mid May to October. There is an option to renew!

The current rent is $4,150, which includes utilities, amenity fee and WiFi, but because of my situation I am willing to charge less at $4,100.

The apartment comes with a gym, rooftop and outdoor pool.

It's a really great community, and the area is beautiful. We are right in front of a track and field, the Weehawken community pool and a running path along the Hudson. The building opened last year, and is already ~95% filled. Really great community for families.

You can get into Manhattan via the ferry or the bus. It takes ~30 minutes to get into Port Authority via the bus. You can also Uber / Lyft to Port Authority or Penn Station fairly quickly since the Declan is located right near the Lincoln Tunnel.

My 1st post (although a long time lurker), so any coaching / feedback would be appreciated, and I'll make sure to update the post!
