Looking for real-world input from CoreELEC-only users. Not interested in Android TV opinions — purely CE playback use case.

My situation:

• Primary use: CoreELEC only (booting from USB/SD)

• Content: 4K Blu-ray remuxes and full disc ISOs, frequently 80–120GB+

• Must-haves: DV Profile 7 FEL passthrough, VS10 tone mapping, stable high-bitrate playback

• Future-proofing: want the box to handle whatever codecs come next (AV1 especially)

What I’ve found so far:

The Homatics Box R 4K Plus (S905X4-K) seems to be the community favourite for the “does everything” crowd.

But the FEL situation concerns me. CE-NG is EOL. If FEL on the Homatics only works reliably on a dead branch, that’s not a stable long-term setup — that’s a ticking clock.

The Ugoos AM6B+ keeps coming up as the gold standard for FEL specifically, but it lacks AV1 hardware decode and stock availability is getting tight.

My actual questions:

- Can homatics play high bitrate movies with dv fel 7 smooth ?

- Is dobly 10 tone mapping working fine homatics ?

-is homatics future proff for codecs like av1 and vp9?

-or i can look at other devices if you have a suggestion pls?

Current setup:

Nividia Shield Pro ➡️ Samsung Q990D soundbar

Samsung Q990D soundbar ➡️ Sony Bravia 8 tv to HDMI 3 earc

Problem I’m encountering is my soundbar is not showing any audio formats across front ie, (Dolby Atmos, DD+ etc) it only shows on front HDMI 1.

I’m streaming from Stremio and Nuvio so I see the formats that are supposed to show but are not. Before I hit the shield I was streaming directly from Sony Bravia 8 ➡️ soundbar and I would see Dolby Atmos.

I have gone through the settings on shield pro and Sony Bravia 8 as per CHAT GPT and set appropriate toggles it instructed but still not getting those formats to show.

Anyone who can help I would greatly appreciate it!!

I have unplugged the Shield power cord but the message remains on the tv screen. I have unplugged the tv and when it powers on it goes to HDMI 2…regular cable viewing. When I go to HDMI 4 (Shield) it returns almost immediately to the Check for update message.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Is anyone else getting micro stuttering in all video content. This happens On prime, plex and on Disney plus, all apos that offer 4k. it only seems noticeable on high resolution content. Im on a lg cx 1 tv and iv tried most settings on the shield with no success like 60hz and 59.xx hz no luck.

I'm not Stremio efficient. In fact most of what I try to do on it is guesswork. Question: when I follow a rather good tutorial on installing it, does the work automatically transfer to my Android TV Stremio? If not, what should I be doing instead?

TL;DR – these are my “successful” settings for my home theater.

 I’m posting this because I spent a month honing my setup to get good home theater results. Although it’s pretty long odds that someone has the same setup that I do, someone might find something useful.

My specific issues were:

·         Could not get reliable Dobly / ATMOS / DTS playback across multiple inputs.  I’d either get PCM or my receiver would “hunt” for a signal to decode.

·         My video would “twitch” every few seconds, especially with 4K video.

·         I’d get long audio delays after pausing playback. 

·         My TV would often not find a signal, requiring system reboots.

·         The Voice track was often very muddy requiring subtitles.

 A shoutout to everyone else who posted here and helped me with my journey – y’all are great help.

 My Setup:

Receiver - Yamaha RX-V6A with 5.1.2 speaker setup (not perfect, but pretty close)

Speakers are all Polk in wall RCi series, and a Klipsch subwoofer

Nvidia Shield (2019) running Kodi, Netflix, Apple TV

Xfinity Xi6-A cable TV box

Samsung Blu-ray player

Synology NAS

Samsung 65” UN65RU8000FXZA connected to my receiver with 30’ optical HDMI cable

Everything is connected by 1GB internet

I’m controlling it all with a Harmony Hub (yup – still working), but CEC/eARC fought me all the way.

My room is very sub-optimal – 10’ ceilings and open floorplan (very uneven every way you look at it).

 Receiver settings:  Who knew!  I spent a LOT of time learning about this with the help of Gemini.  Sometimes down the wrong rabbit hole, but I think I got there.  Firstly, do the full 8 position YPAO setup – 3 measurements across the primary listening position, 1 behind, 2 in front, and 1 each to the left and right of the primary.

The receiver has a Web Setup in addition to an on-screen setup.  The web setup is much easier to manage, so I’ll talk to the following tabs and the items I changed on each.

General: DSP Program – Standard (I don’t use any sound fields now); Dialogue Level and Lift - +2 or 3; Tone Control – Auto

Speaker: Configure all speakers to be small with the exception of the sub. I also raised the cross over to 90Hz on my left and right fronts, and 100Hz on my center.  This improved the voice clarity quite a bit.  I also raised the equalizer gain for voice just a tad across the front speakers.

Sound: Adaptive DSP Level and Dolby Speaker Virtualization are both on

DSP: Surround Decoder - Decoder Type is set to Auto. 

Video/HDMI: HDMI Control: Control – On; Standby Through – On; ARC – On; Standby Sync – Auto; 4K Upscaling – Off; HDMI Video Format – 4K Mode 1

 TV Setup: I’ve turned off as much of the “enhancements” as possible.  For whatever reason, the HDMI handshake is very sensitive. 

 Shield Setup:

Display and Sound: Resolution is set to 4K 59.940Hz; AI upscaling is set to

Match Content audio resolution and Match Dolby?PCM audio levels – off; Play comfort noise on HDMI – on; On Available formats, I selected manual and then turned on all formats that my receiver is capable of.  HDMI-CEC Enable is off.

 Kodi Setup (Expert Mode):

Video Files – mounted using SMB (this worked better than NFS for me)

Playback:

Adjust display refresh rate – off; Adjust display HDR mode – on; Sync playback to display – off; Render method – auto detect; Allow both hardware accelerations; Allowed HDR dynamic metadata formats – Dolby Vision, HDR10+

System Settings:

Display: Resolution – 3840x2160p; Refresh rate – 59.94; Delay after change of refresh rate – 2.0 seconds.

Audio: Audio output device – AudioTrack (IEC), Kodi packer; Number of channels 7.1; Output Configuration – Optimized; Stereo Upmix – off; Allow passthrough – on; Select all receiver capabilities that fit.

 That’s pretty much all of it.  Comments / suggestions welcome.

YouTubeTV stopped working on my Nvida Shield Pro last night. It loads but hangs when starting to play anything. Uninstalling and reinstalling the app did not fix it. YouTube TV is working fine on other devices.

Before I spend much time on this I wanted to check if this is working for others today in case it is an issue with the Shield in general. (I see from a search on the problem that there was a problem between YouTubeTV and the Shield a few months ago.)

I have someone I don't remember logged into Netflix on my shield. It was probably from a fling I had over 6 years ago and since I use Plex I haven't tried Netflix in years. I know they've had a lot of updates to their password sharing policy and basically made all devices stop working unless you were in the same household. Somehow on my shield Netflix still works and has not asked to login again. I'm able to watch content as far as I can tell (only tried one movie). Thought it was very strange but interesting

My original remote stopped working , so tried re-pairing first nust taking out batteries then going in remote to try and pair. Nothing, no flashing lights no single lights nothing. So i reset remote by holding enter and circle and then put in battery, remote beeps so I think great good to go. Go into settings pair remote, shows remote on side then after clicking on it says pairing after a sec says connecting then just stays there never connects. I have paired many remote over the years and never had issues. So i buy a new one off amazon try it right out of box nothing. Reset and it goes like before all the way to connect and after 2-3 minutes says couldn’t connect. Anyone have any help. Using toblerone remotes. My tv remote is working the shield just fine but I prefer the smaller remote. All insights appreciated. Thanks. Pro 2019.

So I have the Pro model of the shield but I'm noticing that I'm not seeing anything listed for the ai upscaling. And most videos I've seen have typically shown the setting in the quick access menu. Any ideas?

I have disabled Netflix with ADB TV. I bought tvQuickActions pro and I'm trying to remap the button to mute. At the "press needed button" screen in tvQuickActions pro, pressing the Netflix button launches the Netflix app where the choices are enable or uninstall. Not wanting either I press back. I have tried selecting ADB and not selecting ADB, I've tried both ways and neither work for me. I know this app is capable of much more but this is literally the main reason I bought it. I have tried everything I can find. If anyone has a solution it would be greatly appreciated.

This is the 2015 model I think.

Got it for free and have not started it yet.

Hi all,
My Shield that has served me well for several years has starting to act weird. It started with my TiviMate movies and series suddenly starting to buffer and eventually resulting in an error code with the only solution to reboot the Shield.

Then yesterday suddenly it doesnt connect to internet. It says in the settings that its connected to a network but it has no internet connection. No app is working, I've even checked with a internet speed connection app. I have tried Ethernet, wifi and mobile hotspot. My connection at home works fine on all other devices.

I have tried turning on and off automatic date and rebooting without success. What else can I try before performing a factory reset?

The device had an update pending for a week or so. Could that be the issue? In that case, is it possible to update the device via a USB flash drive?
