Weird AI Interaction in FireRed Omega
Hello,
So I'm pretty new to nuzlocking FireRed Omega, but I came across something strange. I was facing Brock and I had out a level 14 Barboach. I just had it use Water Gun on the first Geodude which OHKO'd the Pokemon.
The next Pokemon to come out was Kabuto, which I expected to use Absorb since Barboach is 4X weak to, and would obviously go for it compared to the other moves Sand Tomb, Mud Shot, and Water Gun. Anticipating this, I switched to Elekid (because I wasn't lucky enough to get a Grass Type). The AI picked Mud Shot on the switch, and OHKOd my Elekid with a crit.
I tested it multiple times with save states, and it seems random what moves it goes for against Barboach...Is there something obvious I'm missing in this interaction?
I lost my nuzlocke before reaching Nugget Bridge...
And I dont want to explain how pathetic or embarassing the wipe was.
So heres some cyndaquil fanart I found instead
“Best” Early Gen Pokemon Game Results
This past March I asked across a couple of different subreddits the “Best” OST for early Gen Pokemon Games and FINALLY got around to putting together the results; not that anyone asked for them, but just feel like I owe it to everyone that participated. That said, I want to thank everyone who responded, I definitely loved seeing other people’s favorites and the reasons why!
Anyways, I have a snapshot of the results above.
As seen, Gen 3 (the Hoenn region) was consistently the winner across the subreddits, with Gen 4 (Sinnoh) as second (aside from the rPokeCorner subreddit, where these two were swapped).
Though more people voted for Gen 3 (the Hoenn region), I saw more comments overall praising Sinnoh. From the comments, I would surmise that Gen 4 (Sinnoh) brings a more chill and ambient kind of vibe from its soundtrack, whereas Gen 3 is a bit more up beat/paced. It also seems that those that prefer Gen 4 then preferred Gen 2, as attitudes towards both these Gens seem to be similar in that they have that more relaxed, laidback sound to the various locations, battles, events, etc. tracks.
One comment said it very well in that “Gens 2 and 4 feel cozy, while gens 1 and 3 feel more gung ho”, and I would definitely agree with that sentiment myself as someone who has played these early gen games a ton. Hoenn with its many trumpets help drive this, and if thinking about route music for Kanto, I personally think of that route music with the snare drum.
Ending off, take this all with a grain of salt as obviously there are considerations/limitations to take into account and this is by no means a definitive answer; even the nature of this question is subjective. I won’t list all limitations or things to be considered, but some of the main ones I thought of:
- Was only asked on Reddit, and at that, only to specific Pokemon related subreddits.
- It’s more a reflection of us ‘Hardcore’ fans, and even at that, those on these specific subreddits; not everyone.
- I stayed away from Pokemon Game specific subreddits to hedge against bias.
- Users on a specific subreddit - there may be some bias depending on active users of subreddit.
- Format of the Post/How it was being asked - Did it bias a responder towards Gen 3??
- Because of the nature of the Reddit Poll’s feature and how I ran this, I could’ve had multiple votes from the same respondent.
- Some of the Subreddits number of respondents were extremely low and probably wouldn’t be considered if it were an official study.
Thank you again everyone who answered! I’d love to see what others think of this/the results, and may do more polls like this in the future!
Pokémon White nuzlocke
I have decided to do a nuzlocke of Pokémon White, which i have never played before, and i am going to post an update after every gym battle and other big battles. The picture is my team right after the first gym battle against Chili. I am playing with the following rules:
- I can only catch the first encounter per area
- A pokémon that faints has to be boxed permanently
- I must nickname all pokémon
- Overworld/gift/egg pokémon count as bonus encounters for an area
- Pinwheel clause
- Dupes clause
- Shiny clause
- Items allowed in battle
- Battle mode set
- White out is a restart
I went with the naming theme of Attack on Titan characters. I have tried to complete a hardcore nuzlocke of other games many times before, but i have never completed one, either because i have given up or because i lost motivation. I'm hoping i complete the nuzlocke this time! If you have any tips i would like to hear them:)
Edit: it won't let me upload a picture, but the team consists of:
- Armin the Snivy
- Gelgar the Panpour
- Annie the Purrloin
- Ymir the Patrat
Emerald Water Monolocke: Damageless Tate and Liza sweep

fight was easy with Lucida the Nidoran F KOing the Geodude and Silkscreen the Butterfree defeating the Geodude. Lucida would have KOd Brock's whole team until the Onix used Bind that is completely different to what I know.
I know learned that Bind prevents you from making a move. It seems that the opponent using it is also prevented to making a move other than Bind. And also I can switch out mid Bind?
Genlocke: Leg 9 Complete!
Yet another game falls to the might of my oversized axolotl with a shotgun (its name is Earthquake). Well, him and his friends, of course. Couldn't do it without you guys!

Shield proved to be pretty easy for the most part. I mean, I wouldn't really say it's a challenging game period, but my point is that I didn't really struggle too much during this run. At least, not until I got closer to the end. Once things started being fully evolved and having decent movesets, I'll admit, my cockiness nearly got the better of a fair few Pokemon on my team. In fact, it did just that. A few times, actually.
Whether it be cockiness or stupidity, I'm not sure, but I lost my Pangoro to Piers, and my Cryogonal to a random trainer on Route 10. These deaths hit pretty hard, especially Cryogonal. I mean, I had that thing with me since my first run through of Unova. Besides my Swampert, it was my second-longest living team member. And what did it die to? Cameraman Cam's Klinklang. Because I somehow forgot that Swampert is slow as all get out. Klinklang decided to use Gear Grind, absolutely decimating my poor Cryogonal. Rest in peace to a real one; your sacrifice was not in vain. Oh, and my Pangoro? Died to Piers' Obstagoon. And honestly, that was so very much due to my own negligence. Obstagoon sets up Obstruct, blocking the move I was about to use and lowering my defense. Then, Pangoro can't quite get a kill off in the next turn, and he gets one-shot by Counter. I got baited. Hard.
Anywho, my last death was far more heroic. At least, that's how I like to think about it. Kevin the Galarian Weezing. I picked him up just before I fought Kabu, in preparation for Opal's Fairy-types. When I got him, he was only really meant to be a temporary team member. But after the 5th gym, he just kinda stuck around. I couldn't really figure out a way to retire him without getting rid of some key coverages. So, I didn't. He stuck around, and he pulled his weight. It all culminated in a final showing of his devotion to the team during the fight with Leon. I send Kevin out against Leon's Haxorus, hoping to take advantage of his less-than-stellar special defense to get a quick kill with Dazzling Gleam. Kevin doesn't outspeed Haxorus. But what he lacks in speed, he makes up for in bulk. Galarian Weezing is a physical tank. He tanks an Iron Tail, but is unable to take another. He has to finish this now. He fires off a Dazzling Gleam, but just barely is unable to take out Haxorus. I'm panicking a little bit. I thought that would work. I can't possibly switch out; nothing else can reliably take a hit from this Haxorus, and I need some of these guys to be at full strength since Leon still has half of his team left after this. I realize that the only thing I could possibly do in this moment was to sacrifice Kevin to get a clean switch into Craig (my Cinderace), who would certainly outspeed and kill. I select Dazzling Gleam once more. And, to my surprise, Leon heals his Haxorus. Okay, maybe it's just a range, right? The first Dazzling Gleam left Haxorus pretty low, so maybe if I'm lucky, I can take it out. No. Haxorus lives on a sliver of health. A smaller sliver than the previous attack. It was a range, and I rolled low. I know what I must do. I choose Dazzling Gleam for the final time, and Haxorus fires off one more Iron Tail, taking out Kevin. I switch in Craig, finally putting Haxorus down for good with a Flame Charge. Rest in peace to a real one. You may have begun as a temporary team member, but you earned your keep and then some. You'll permanently be in my heart.
Now that the Very-Much-Beatable Leon has fallen, we're in the home stretch of this challenge! The end is in sight, folks. See? It's right there, at the bottom of that crater. Scarlet is gonna take us to Paldea for the grand finale. Let's finish her out strong.

Okay I'm giving in. How do I hack rare candy in leaf green on the switch?
I can't stand it anymore. I kill 10 Pokemon on victory road and go up by less than 1000 exp points. I stand on one island and use the vs seeker on 5 trainers at once and have to battle them all 5 times to get one level. I never passed the E4 as a kid and this is why. I have a good team but the highest level one is 51 and I would like them all to be at 60. I'm about to just say screw it and go challenge the E4 anyway. Restarting would be more fun at this point.

FR/LG Snorlax died, who should I replace him with?
Thanks to Channeler Tasha’s Gastly using Destiny Bond, my Snorlax is dead. I missed the other one, and I couldn’t catch Rhyhorn so Megahorn is off the table. Am I doomed to have no counter for Blue or Sabrina’s Alakazams?
I (barely) beat Storm Silver!
After beating FireRed Omega about a month ago, I mulled over which game to do next. I don't think I'm quite ready to take on a Kaizo game yet so I stuck with Drayano. I chose SS/SG because I felt the most familiar with Johto. I chose Storm Silver because I wasn't sure what the differences were and I like Lugia more than Ho-Oh so... Storm Silver it is!
There was a massive learning curve for this ROM I wasn't expecting. I played the first few runs without documentation because I just wanted to see how far I could get off of vibes and out of about a dozen attemps, I made it to Goldenrod once.
A few things I learned along the way:
-Once I got serious, I started naming my runs alphabetically. Going to do this moving forward so I don't have more "countless attempts" and I'm too lazy to tally them.
-Beating the 5th gym is pretty straightforward after a while, but it feels like it's only a 3rd of the game. From Jasmine to the Champion is so incredibly dense with boss battles. Each individual fight isn't necessarily hard but runs could spiral out of control very fast if I lost the wrong mon at the wrong time.
-My previous furthest attempts were losses to the rival in Goldenrod Underground and I actually lost to Lance's Garchomp on the attempt before this because my team was much too slow.
-There are a couple of fights in the run that are honestly well-designed traps. A couple of forced doubles that you can't just speed through, and a Wobuffett in the rocket hideout in Mahogany that took away my Scizor in a previous run. The hardest lesson I learned is there is no prize for playing ignorantly blind.
-How I optimized this run was to hold off on as many encounters as possible in case I wanted to go after a roamer later. Glaceon solos Falkner and getting a Geodude in Ruins of Alph made the Bugsy fight easier (which I didn't know you could do until way too late)
-My box was always pretty well stocked, which occasionally lured me into a false sense of security. Mamoswine, Lucario, Crobat, and Staraptor were all crucial members of my team and my calcs that I lost because I decided to steer at random times. Magnezone, for example. was a really dumb death - I sent him out to fight the Red Gyarados and I got aqua tail critted in the rain and died before I could even attack.
-I would also spend too much time trying to dodge spinners only to forget which ones I'd fought and have to fight with an unprepared team. There were many close calls throughout the run. One of the swimmers on route 30 has a level 33 Gyarados and I had no electric moves on my team. Somehow I made it out with no deaths by chipping away at him and carefully switching.
-I got the choice items in this run as soon as I could, which was a massive help for some fights that were on the borderline of riskless.
For the E4, the way I calc'd it, basically everything was completely fine and I wasn't expecting to have any trouble. Raikou would setup sweep Will, and then my plan was to use choice specs Psychic Alakazam on Koga after killing the Venomoth. What I didn't notice while calcing was that his Crobat outsped and one-shot my Alakazam. From there it was a HARD pivot, but ended up being fine as long as I didn't drop another unecessary death. I sent in Raikou who one-shot, which then brought in Toxicroak. I hard switched Heracross and got poisoned, which I thought was fine because I could Guts and Aerial Ace but I calc'd it as +2 instead of +1. I lowrolled and I lost Heracross too!!
Starmie swept the fight and basically singlehandedly dealt with Bruno. Infernape was my backup for Karen and ended up putting in work there.
My rule for the Champion was I could only level one mon to level 60 for the Champ fight, and Starmie could reliably outspeed and one-shot everything on Lance's team without specs. I was so excited to get back to the champion that I clicked thunderbolt on his Gyarados, out comes Garchomp, I clicked ice beam... and I forgot to take off Choice Specs.
I swear to god I almost quit right there. I ended up sac'ing my own Garchop so I could switch back into Starmie and kill with ice beam, which I did until I got to Charizard and then had Raikou finish him off.
Even though it was incredibly messy, I know I improved a lot as a player. My biggest area for growth is consistency - for many fights, I'd overprepare or try to find a perfect line or try to find a way to solo a trainer with one mon. Other times, I'd just walk into a spinner flippantly and be totally caught off guard. I'm sure there's a happy medium, if not just generally leaning toward preparation.
Anyway, on to the next one! Though, I might try to make it to Red just for fun.
Im just here to say I earhquaked ny own Magneton to death. LG
Title says it all but if you would like more info I was leveling up at the spa. I was using Tauros who I gave Earthquake. I put Magneton in 2nd slot so he could get some exp from the double fight. And Im sure you can figure out what happened next. Thats all.

HELP ME!
Gym 7 of my Mono Bug Hardcore Sapphire Nuzlocke is now complete. One more gym to go and then the elite four.
Did anyone else know that Rock does not resist Bug? I always thought it did.
Because the Emerald one was a hit, here's a unique HeartGold/SoulSilver tier list
My first Genlocke: Gen 2 complete!
I didn’t post after finishing Gen 1 because I wasn’t sure how far I’d get. After finishing Gen 2, I figured it was finally time to share.
Off to Emerald next! The run will end with the Steven boss fight after becoming champion. Wish me luck!
Self destruction
I'm in the middle of my very first nuzlocke run, going with Leafgreen. Yesterday I encountered a rocket grunt with a weezing. First thing i did was switching to another pokemon to get some attacking advantage... But the Weezing immediately blew itself up and one-shoted my belowed Dwight (Hypno)
How do the rest of you try to avoid such senario? I'm trying not to look up every encounter beforehand to get a more genuine run. But now I'm scared of every Graveler og Electrode I run into 😂
