Heya North Bay. Tell me everything I need to know about boating on Lake Nippissing. My husband and I may like to rent a boat for a bit this summer and I don’t know a lot about it. Anytime we got in a boat was in Quebec when I was a kid.

I have a feeling we need a license but don’t know what all i need to prepare for that.

I also don’t know any of the local lake knowledge for boating. When I was a kid my only familiarity with Nippissing was swimming, the Chief, ice fishing, and skidoo racing during Carnaval. 🤣

Moving to Astorville Ontario. Any locals know what the best internet is? I will be working from home.

I’m currently a university student looking at potentially being posted to North Bay in the future for work. I’m originally from Saskatchewan, and my girlfriend is from NYC, so North Bay would definitely be a big life change for both of us.

I was honestly just hoping to hear from people who actually live there. What’s North Bay like for young couples starting out? Is it a good place to build a life longterm, buy a home, raise kids, etc.?

I’ve heard good things about the quieter lifestyle, nature, community, and cost of living/housing market compared to bigger Ontario cities, but I’d love honest opinions from locals too, both the positives and negatives.

I loved the community and vibe of the prairies a lot and I really value a cool, quieter, homey atmosphere where you can genuinely build a life and feel connected to the community around you

Would you personally stay there long term? Why or why not? Any advice?

I’m new to North Bay and oh my god the roads suck. Paint and lines seem to be a luxury… if you’re lucky maybe you can detect the remanence of a line from years past.

Is this street two lanes?
Is this on street parking?
Is this a turn only lane?
Can that guy get on his side of the asphalt before I need to jump the curb?

Like seriously I’ve never seen a town in Ontario like this before. Do they just not give a fu**?

Just a quick vent. Lol, the new recycle bins are so large that I have nowhere to put this stupid thing. It is a really convenient waterproof suit case for any homeless person to just take. I already saw someone with two walking down the street. If mine gets taken, I hope the new company will replace them, but I doubt it. Anything that is easy to take gets stolen from my property as it is. So lets put wheels on it and make it really easy for them. Lol. Thanks for listening. I'm not a fan of this change.
