Can’t use my backyard because of neighbor’s dog.

My neighbor’s dog continues to jump on the shared fence and it has almost separated. I’ve tried everything to secure the fence but it’s gotten to where I can’t work on the fence because the dog tries to attack me through the fence!! I’ve only lived here for a little over two years but I’m at my wit’s end. The neighbors are NOT friendly, so knocking on the door intimidates me. I’m not sure what I’m even asking for with this post - I guess would a note on their door be too offensive? (And yes I’m aware my dogs are not making this situation any better - but I keep my dogs inside as much as I can. I have worked on my side of the fence to try and keep the fence together but I just can’t keep spending money on top of money when they haven’t done anything on their side).

Where do you get rid of/donate stuff?(Shelf stable food, furniture, old tech, or otherwise)

Hey Norman! I'm looking to declutter a bit, and I'm trying to find good places to donate things. My big trash collection day is at the end of the month, but before that comes I'd like to put everything I can to good use. I've been giving what I can to good will, but I wanted to check where else things might be needed, and what places accept/need what things.

I don't have a list of specific things, but I'm moreso just curious where other normanites go to donate things and know they'll be used! Any input is appreciated!

Moving to Norman this June — anyone familiar with Summit Lakes / Summit Hollow area?

We're relocating to Norman for working at OU and narrowing down on a house. A few things I'd love local input on:

  • Summit Lakes / Summit Hollow Dr area — how's the day-to-day living? Getting to OU campus, grocery, anything that caught you off guard after moving in? We have cars so walkability isn't a big deal, just want to know if there's anything inconvenient we wouldn't see on a map.
  • Sentinel Homes — also looking at a new build in this area built by them. Anyone have experience? Quality, how they handle issues after closing, anything helps.
  • Red Canyon Ranch — we keep going back and forth on this one. The homes are smaller (compared with Summit Lakes ones) for the same price, but it seems way better located — closer to OKC, Costco, Target, and Asian supermarkets which matters to us. Does that location advantage actually play out in real life?

Really hard to get a feel for a neighborhood from out of state — appreciate any honest takes.

Daycare Centers

Hi guys, I graduate in August and can begin working then. I will have a 1 year old by then and I hate to have to put her in daycare but I don’t have any other option besides maybe hiring a babysitter. I want her to be able to have the social interaction that comes with daycare but I need something extremely trustworthy and clean!! I cannot stress the cleanliness part enough, i’d love recommendations here in Norman. In-home daycares are good too!

ER tech job (Norman regional or any other hospitals)

I’m about to get my EMT-B certification in a few months (hopefully) and I’m wanting to get a job as an ER technician (I think it’s called an EDT idk) with Norman regional or any er tech job close to Norman.

How hard is it to land a job as one? Any Er techs here wanna chime in on what the job is like?

Are there any other requirements?

Lots of questions I’m sorry

Any hiring managers lurking in this subreddit?

I’m aware this isn’t 100% professional, but I’m desperate. I have a part time job right now, but it is starting to be inconvenient for me as it’s 30 minutes away from my house (more gas mileage) and because the store isn’t making money, we are extremely understaffed and I end up getting sent home early more often than not.

I live with my grandparents and I need a good full time job so I can save for an apartment. I have experience with upselling, customer service, food handling, and communication. I’ve graduated high school and am not currently in college, but I have dreams of being a psychologist. I can’t afford college right now though.

If there is any hiring managers that tend to lurk on Reddit and specifically have work in Norman who is willing to schedule an interview with me, or at least send a link to your website so I can fill an application out, that would be awesome. I’m a hard worker, I get anxious that I’m going to be late to things so I always end up early, and I am able to move around decently. I do have piriformis syndrome which causes stinging in my hip, but I manage it with Tylenol and stretching so it’s not a huge inconvenience.

OU parents weekend

Parents-teach your kids how to order food/drink while showing respect. Students-if you are at a place and make a mess clean up after yourselves. It’s great you are in our town having fun just show a little bit of respect to the community.

Hair salons for kinky curly hair

It’s been a few years since I’ve let anyone touch my head and I’m looking for a hair refresh. I would say I’m between 3A/3B on this chart. Does anyone have recommendations on where I could go to get my hair cut? Bonus points if you know price ranges!

Best Place to sell a CD collection / vintage (original NES) collection?

I know vintage stock and guestroom in the city buy CDs, anyone know the best place to go? Would rather sell at once (over 200 CDs and close to 30 NES games with carrying case).

Thanks in advance!

Norman/Moore drivers

The skinny pedal makes the vehicle go. The left lane is for people that need to get somewhere. Don't drive the speed limit in the left lane. If you are in the left lane, you should be going faster than the car in the right or middle lane.

Showering during rain or thunderstorm

alright! norman folks, would/do YOU shower or take a bath when it is raining outside? I know there is the old tale that you shouldn't shower during a thunderstorm, and figured it was a myth. but then I looked it up, and google has plenty of examples of lightning striking houses and water and showers exploding.

I live in a house near berry and Boyd. a few weeks ago, lightning hit something nearby and now my living room and bathroom lights dont work right. need to replace the bulbs in the living room to see if they just got zapped, or if the whole thing is toast. my bathroom LED light is definitely zapped and only barely flickers on now.

Edit to add: it didnt make me think twice until I had a child. Now, I am hypervigilant in general but after the light zaps, I have skipped bath night a few times recently when we really needed one.
