PSA: Everything in the store is now free

I guess it makes sense since the game is going away, all emotes, consumables, skins are now free on the in game store. Not sure when this change happened but haven't seen anyone mention it so I figured I would.

For anyone looking for a new world replacement

...then your out of luck cause there's nothing that could ever replace our precious game. Buuut.ive been trying a lot of things annnd. Yeah na, still nothing comes close. Buuuuut recently came out on early access is farever. It's the closest thing I've found to nws action combat. It's simple, it's fairly fun. I've even noticed some NW influence in some things in it. It's open world. Has bosses and dungeons. No pvp yet but its planned too. Look it up and give it a go.

EDIT (May 2026): Adding concrete status to the top of this post. Discord is now live: https://discord.gg/3NQ9ejFUwy

Verified milestones after 7 months of work:

  • Amazon Omni authentication handshake reverse-engineered
  • AWS STS credential format reproduced (custom backend mints valid tokens)
  • Javelin gRPC schema mapped (around 30 RPCs, 50 message types)
  • The official New World client boots to character select against the custom backend
  • No binary patches applied, EAC compatibility intact

A short proof video showing the full boot flow is coming this week. The original post is kept below for context.

Aeternum Legacy

Aeternum Legacy is a server emulator for New World. Players keep their existing client and Steam install. The project provides the missing server backend so the game stays playable after Amazon Games' shutdown on January 31, 2027.

The approach is the same one that has kept TrinityCore and AzerothCore for World of Warcraft running legally for over 15 years. The player owns a legitimate copy. The community provides only the server-side components. There is no monetization of game access, no asset redistribution, and no client modification.

Current technical status

The hard part of any server emulator is the authentication and protocol layer. After 7 months of work, here is where things actually stand:

Amazon's Omni authentication handshake has been reverse-engineered. The AWS STS credential format used by the client has been reproduced, which means the custom backend can mint valid session tokens for the client to consume. The Javelin gRPC schema (roughly 30 RPCs and 50 message types) has been mapped through a combination of static analysis with Ghidra and live MITM capture performed before the official sunset.

The official client currently boots to the character select screen against the custom backend. No binary patching is involved, and EAC remains satisfied. Character creation and world entry are the next milestones. Persistence, auction house, factions, and expeditions are planned in that order.

Legal model

This is a preservation effort, not a piracy effort.

Players must own a legitimate Steam copy of New World to use the project. No game files, assets, or proprietary Amazon content are redistributed. No paid access to the server. Donations may be enabled later strictly to cover hosting costs.

The legal framework is identical to TrinityCore and AzerothCore, which have operated openly for over 15 years without successful legal challenge. The line is well established: the player owns the client, the community provides the missing server side, no one profits from game access.

What I am committing to publicly

Vague promises are easy. Here are specific ones:

  • A proof video this week showing the full boot flow against the custom backend
  • A weekly devlog inside the Discord starting next week
  • A public roadmap with versioned milestones, ordered by sequence rather than by date
  • Backend stays closed source until stable for security reasons, and will be opened once mature

I am not promising 50 versus 50 wars on day one. I am not promising a polished beta in a quarter. The goal is sustainable progress with public proof at every step.

How to follow or contribute

The Discord is the central hub: https://discord.gg/3NQ9ejFUwy

It has channels for general discussion, development progress, video proof, feature suggestions, and direct technical questions. The contributor application opens once the proof video is published. Skills currently wanted: Go backend, Rust and Tauri, reverse engineering, and QA testing.

What I am asking from this post

If you want this project to survive past the shutdown, the most useful thing right now is to join the Discord and tell me which systems matter most to you. Combat fluidity, gathering, expeditions, OPR, wars: all of these have very different engineering tradeoffs, and the order I tackle them should reflect what the community actually plays.

Skepticism is welcome. Tough technical questions are welcome. The proof video will answer most of them. The Discord is open for the rest.

Thanks for reading this far.

Games that have died have died for much more. And games that are still up with 50 players are up for much less. But for some reason, AGS or whomever puppeteers AGS, has decided that this game must sunset. Yeah, even trash Ubisoft sunset their racing game at least 10 years after supporting it. This is just unbelievable. Why is it that a game dev company's marketing is to be believe (come, play me). But there's no accountability (if I shut down, go away)? Makes no sense.

My question is why? Not "why AGS won't work on it anymore." I already know that. Money. But why can't players, who sometimes make a virtual life in a game, be given a choice? If this is how it is, do all MMO devs want me to stick to:

  1. My 4th ESO character who's a mage but even after 4 playthroughs, the combat is so redundant and tab-target I can play it in sleep?

  2. My anime-fazed FFXIV character where inappropriately dressed anime-kids are jumping for attention every corner of every city?

  3. Enjoy the repeated hills in Albion where the new player dies in the PVP zone in 5 minutes without ever knowing what killed him?

I have never played WoW. And ok, it must be God's honest truth. But NW was something nothing else could match. An actual action + MMO experience. Kill Khepri, and do it in a style of an RPG game.

But that's about to be over. And that's sad.

New World Adjacent Recommendation: Farever

Since the announcement of New World EoL, I've seen a ton of posts trying to find something that can even a little bit replace what New World's gameplay niche offered, which surprise, nothing really has.

That finally changed a few days ago with a game called Farever. It's still not going to 100% fit the bill, as I don't think anything can. But it's certainly the closest game I've played so far.

To be perfectly clear: It's very early access, it's incredibly unstable, and has a lot of room to improve. But the potential is absolutely there.

Need PvP Help, heavy armor user

I know the game is slated to shut down next year but after taking a break and coming back to enjoy some chill OPR’s, I notice that most of these light armor players are absolutely ripping through my heavy armor.

My question is, does heavy armor even matter that much in brawls? It seems some medium armor dudes are just as tanky as me and if not, even more tanky. How can I be tankier? Or do I just have to run a full damage setup like everyone else?

As simple as that. I played the Alpha. It was glorious. Even if released as-is, right now, it would be peak gaming for anyone who even remotely likes this genre.

I wish they released it. Even as a small side project with monthly subscription.

So now a decent period of time has passed since the game announced its closure and apart from the fact that there still isn't anything even half as good as New World which is just frustrating, but besides that, I still don't get one thing.

I'm still super confused about the timing of when they announced the closure of the game. Expansion released 3 weeks prior, New World been pretty much back to its peak. Even if they did nothing, no changes, no expansions, minimal communication, they probably could have retained a player base for at least 3-6 months after , people would still be buying skins, buying battle passes etc.. but why kill the game 3 weeks post expansion when the game was really populated again?

It just really confusses me from a business model perspective , because even if they New they wanted to shutdown, why do it almost straight away after a new expansion. Why bother with the expansion in the first place ? And since you've already done the expansion then why not let the community come to a halt itself and take all the money you can get through the process? Why would you completely shut down any income you still could have made back 3 weeks after the expansion? Was is basically the cost of staff ? Because they are running servers anyway so it's not like their saving money on that?

It was just one of the most bizarre events I ever saw for a mmo.

Thank you, US East

Ive been playing in US West for a while but I recently transferred over to US East and it feels great (even though I have constant 180 MS LOL), it doesn’t even feel that bad. Like if I didn’t know the game’s situation, I’d think it was fine. I got like 3~ minute OPR queues. People are still doing quests and I run into others all the time out in open world. The people on US East are also hella cool.

Thank you, US East for being awesome and allowing me to continue to play my favorite game.

Decided to open New world without playing since 2022 for old times sake, immediately got these rare achievements.

I was only lvl 46, team green, and last I remember I was on a server that the streamer shroud later happened to join, he ruined the game by taking over the whole map with his fans in yellow team, leaving us greens with nothing (we were winning fairly before) so I got fed up and quit. I guess we made a comeback at some point lol.

Edit: oh wow! there's mounts now?! I finally got a horse and this makes travel great.

Hey everyone, I started playing the game a few months ago at a casual pace and have recently reached level 65. My goal is to:

  • Finish all main story lines
  • Max all weapon skills (which is fairly easy with free boosts)
  • Max out all trading skills. And with ith that, I find that the current state of the trading post is absolutely shattered.

Given the incredibly low population count (even on US East - Valhalla), the prices on a lot of the crafting materials have skyrocketed. I've managed to save up (what I thought) was a decent amount of gold while leveling, but after attempting to buy materials for trading, I realized how little I actually have.

So, what's the best way to gain gold in the current state of the game? Any tips would be greatly appreciated! I'm really enjoying my time with the game, and I'd love to wrap up this journey with a sense of accomplishment after reaching these self-imposed goals.

Hello Friends, Matsume here back with another video - this time featuring Edengrove, home of the Angry Earth.

This video is composed of 271 clips, featuring 16 regions and 57 PoIs for a total of 2 hours and 21 minutes. It's a long one and with good reason.

Edengrove, in many ways, feels like the "crown jewel" of the original 14 zones on the island of Aeternum. Edengrove is a huge zone (both horizontally an vertically) with towering cliffs surrounding a massive central crater featuring lush forests, vivid flora, mist-covered swamps, and Ancient megalithic structures now reclaimed by the Angry Earth.

Edengrove stands out to me as having the most variety of any zone with respect to it's landscapes - almost every zone seems to be represented to a degree (the main exception being seascapes, for obvious reasons). You have areas that resemble Windsward to the east in the Primal Lochan region, Everfall in the northern region of Ruined Straits, Brightwood to the south in the Profane Seam, cherry blossom covered cliffs that resemble Ebonscale, lush swamps that remind us of Weaver's Fen and Reekwater, and a skybox with sunsets to die for.

And then of course, there's Laura's Shrine. Laura's Shrine is an unmarked PoI that can be found on the eastern edge bordering Mourningdale by the river just west of Mourning Bridge. If you haven't been there yet and you still have access to the game I highly encourage you to check it out - just be sure to turn ON the in game music, as this area features a special soundtrack that can only be heard when in proximity to the shrine. If you no longer have access to the game or can't be bothered to log in then I've got you covered. If you have 5 minutes to spare, please have a listen (warning: feels will be had).

If you are a sucker for sunsets, such as myself, I've picked out a small handful of clips that are amongst my personal favorites:

My only regret was that I wasn't able to figure out how to get on to the floating castle, Gaol Volant. My understanding is that you can get on the floating castle as part of the MSQ? However, I believe this was added at a later date when AGS reworked the MSQ and because my character was created before the castle was added to Edengrove I don't know that there is a way for me to get up there. And if there is, I couldn't figure it out.

Anyway, bit of a longer post than usual but well deserved. Filming this video was one hell of a roller-coaster ride. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did.

Oh also: Sorry about the ads, everyone. My channel isn't monetized and I'm like 200 subs and 1500 watch hours short of being able to do so. Needless to say, I'm not seeing any of that money. If I could turn the ads off this entire series, I would. But to be able to do that I need to get partnered or monetized or whatever. If I ever do get monetized, the first thing I will do is turn the ads off these videos.

Cheers, Matsume

Is there a way we can petition Amazon Games, into transitioning the current local game source, with an update, into a local game, with peer to peer based multiplayer?

Obviously after January 2027Amazon Games are ahutting down the MMO servers, and ceasing development of the game completely.

But.

Theres been so much development into the game, the dynamic world, the quests, that writing a semi-single player storyline into the game, with repeatable quests afterwards (think Fallout 3, after the main storyline ends) where you can locally host Games for friends to join, with scaled difficulty, and random loot drops (think Diablo II).

I just dont think I can bare having to watch YouTube vids to listen to Windsward or Everfall music again.

Plus, they can ways retain the calendar based seasonal 'events' in the code.

Im sure there would be a minimal effort from the dev team to consider what a transition looks like, I for one would definitely consider buying the game again if it meant that it was a stand alone game with no further development (remember those...)

Played during the first few months of launch, been wanting to play again but got caught up on all the news (rip new world). Is it still alive at all? and what happens after it goes down, any fan servers planned? honestly no other MMO matches new world in combat for me so this is all a big bummer.

Where to find this webpage of Newworld?

In the past, I've linked my steam account and an amazon account via this page. I'd like to access that page again to unlink, but I can't find it. I read that a few things have changed and that it's all AmazonID right now, but I have no access to the said Amazon account.

I tried to create an AmazonID account with the Steam account that was linked, and it just created a new AmazonID account and doesn't show anything else.

If this page is not available anymore, could anyone explain what has changed?
