The tunnel at Union Station New Haven may be overhauled -- The Architect's Newspaper

Story about the proposal that has already roused much controversy and discussion here. It includes a bit more of the history and context of the tunnel design, and notes that this is only an initial proposal for a project that isn't scheduled to start construction for another three years. (Or later, if they save the tunnel work until after the platform work is done.)

Looking for a place with strong car vacuums

My dog sheds like wild this time of year and I'd like to vacuum it out but every time i try to google car vacuums i keep getting recommended car washes. willing to go anywhere in a reasonable radius of new haven if i can get these tumbleweeds tamed - who has the best DIY car vacuums? I'm too broke for fancy detailing places but I'll pay for a cheap car wash if the vacuums are strong.

Luggage storage service

We will be traveling from Boston to NYC in July on Amtrak and would like to stop in New Haven for 1/2 day to visit the Yale campus and museum. However the Amtrak site explicitly indicates no checked baggage service and no checked baggage storage. Are there other places near Union Station where we can drop off 2 medium suitcases and come back to pick them up in the evening?

New Zeneli's restaurant denied zoning permission

Zeneli Properties applied for a Special Exemption to not provide off-street parking at their new proposed 80 seat 175 Wooster Street restaurant. Current zoning rules require 20 spaces.

The New Haven Board of Zoning Appeals denied the application. Given the small size of the lot, it seems unlikely to be viable if 20 parking spaces are required. Another example of foolish zoning restrictions impeding economic development in our city.

Skip the Small Talk in Philadelphia!

Hey everyone!! If you’re looking for something different to do this week, Skip the Small Talk is coming to Evil Genius Beer Co!!

It’s a guided conversation event—think speed-friending vibes, but calmer and more intentional.

You rotate through short conversations with prompts that skip past surface-level small talk. It’s structured enough to make it easy, but relaxed enough to feel natural.

Most people come alone. The crowd tends to be thoughtful, open, and just… normal humans who want more community.

Here’s the link if you’re curious:

Public but private

Hi there, I’m looking for a place somewhere in New Haven I’d be able to take a private call/interview without being interrupted and might have some level of privacy. Anyone have any recommendations? Does the library (Ives or others) offer this type of thing? Any recommendations welcome. Thx!

Best places to find a roommate (Yale student / travel nurse) – New Haven area?

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some advice on where to post to find a roommate for a 2-bedroom condo in the New Haven area.

Ideally, I’d love to find a Yale student or a travel nurse- someone responsible, clean, and with a predictable schedule. The place would be a shared 2-bed condo, so I’m trying to find the right platforms where people like that are actually looking.

So far I’ve thought about Facebook groups and Craigslist, but I’m wondering:

- Are there specific Yale housing groups or forums that are active?

- Any good sites or apps that travel nurses use to find housing?

- Any Reddit communities you’d recommend posting in?

Appreciate any suggestions or tips- thanks in advance!

Hair Salon, Foil and Shade in Hamden

I’m not sure if this is the right place to share but I really wanted to share an amazing small business that truly deserves more recognition. Julia at Foil and Shade Hair Salon in Hamden is absolutely incredible. She makes getting your hair done feel effortless and genuinely enjoyable. She’s so down to earth and welcoming, which instantly puts you at ease the moment you walk in. Her salon is beautifully decorated, filled with plants that create such a calm, cozy atmosphere. Sometimes you even get surprise visits from her two sweet dogs, who are always ready to greet you with the lots of kisses. What really sets Julia apart is the 1 on 1 experience. You never feel rushed or like just another appointment in her day she takes the time to listen, understand what you want, and make sure you leave feeling your absolute best. Sitting in her chair feels less like a transaction and more like spending time with someone who genuinely cares. If you’re looking for a stylist who is talented, attentive, and creates a relaxing, personalized experience, I can’t recommend Julia enough. Supporting small businesses like hers makes such a difference, and this is one you won’t regret trying!

Cars Towed Wooster Place AGAIN

I know signs go up, but not with enough time. And they don't even dates of when towing will happen. I was in the park with my partner yesterday afternoon and didn't see any signs. We went to get our car at 10am today and the whole street was towed. We don't even have a ticket or the location of our car. No phone call about tree trimming either. This is ridiculous
