Do we think Neil has a late-career ‘final album’ masterpiece in him à la Rough And Rowdy Ways or Blackstar?

When I say this I mean an album that is not only great, but also a critical and commercial smash. I have seen this type of question been asked about Neil among other artists, and I think it is an interesting question. I don’t really see Neil as someone who would want to put out a ‘last album’ in the sense that it would be a career spanning look back on his music, discussing mortality and life, like Bob Dylan did on RARW or Bowie on Blackstar. I feel like Neil is just going to keep releasing and making the music he wants to make, not necessarily thinking about what the ‘last one’ would be. The closest he got to this was probably Prairie Wind from 2005, when he was facing some serious health issues and the recent passing of his dad.

NYA - Ragged Glory/Smell the Horse

So having neared my ideal NY collection on CD, I've been tracking back and picking up some of the more recent NYA remasters (where justified). Very pleased with the way this one sounds - the soundstage is so much more open, with vocals/drums having room to breathe in particular. My 1990 CD can't hold a candle to it. It would be nice to see all the ORS releases as standalone titles (not just some of them), to enable collectors to pick and choose. I don't believe all of them warrant a repurchase (Comes a Time, Rust Never Sleeps, Harvest Moon, Sleeps with Angels - for example - sound pretty good to me already). Mirrorball is definitely one that needs some work, but I've heard mixed opinions as to the remaster. Oh yeah, the extra CD Smell the Horse is top notch - Interstate...what a song!

I already have Way Down In The Rust Bucket. Do I need Weld on LP?

Hey all-

Title says it all. Do I grab Weld or is it too much a double dip?

Thoughts On Neil’s work with Buffalo Springfield?

Over the last two years I have become a big fan of Neil Young and the majority of his catalog, especially the stuff he did with Buffalo Sprinfield and pretty much everything shortly thereafter. I just think he was absolutely genius with Buffalo Springfield and Expecting To Fly will remain one of my most loved songs for the rest of time. I’m just wondering what other people think about the songs he wrote for the band and which one of these is your favorite?

Saw a post about Rust Never Sleeps on twitter and listened to it about two days ago. Feels like I found gold. Been absolutely hooked since and I can't stop listening. I don't know how to describe it but it feels like the best music I've ever listened to. And the best part is, I still have a lot to listen to. Favorite album so far is either Tonight's the Night or Harvest. Favorite song is Old Man. Just listening and felt like I had to post about it.

Just here to say Neil Young has one of the wildest discographies of any artist ever. I would literally put this man as one of the greatest songwriters of all time, but man does he have too many albums. I mean Freedom, “Rockin in the Freeworld?” Almost unbearable, yet same guy who wrote “My My Hey Hey”. Idk, I just wanted to see what people thought in general about his discography and if anything post Harvest Moon was worth listening to. After the Gold Rush, Harvest, On the Beach and ESPECIALLY Rust Never Sleeps remain as some of my favorite albums of all time but man does he have so many albums.

I guess my question is, what’s worth listening to besides his golden 70’s era? I appreciate Harvest Moon and a couple others but looking for hidden gems here. Sorry if my description is very random.

A short arrangement I did of Old Country Waltz on lap steel - Are there any of Neil’s songs where Ben Keith’s steel guitar lines stand out to you ?

I have been learning lap steel guitar for the past couple months, mostly listening and playing along to Homegrown and American Stars N Bars. Ben Keith is such a phenomenal player, the interplay between his pedal steel and Neil’s voice is genius imo. Feel free to leave examples in the comments :)

Finally found my favorite Neil Young & Crazy Horse album at a price I was willing to pay. Sounds fantastic so far!
