Loneliness is a well-known struggle nowadays. The typically recommended options like bars and clubs might work for some, but for the rest of us, they're often just a recipe for sensory overload. Joining dedicated hobby clubs is another common tip, but many of us simply don't have the time for that. Plus, it's incredibly intimidating to walk into a place and immediately feel out of place because everyone is already sitting in established groups.

So, I was wondering if there are spots in or around Munich where you can just show up occasionally, enjoy a calm vibe, and actually have a chance to connect with other solo, like-minded people? How do we quiet folks find each other?

It would be amazing to use this comment section to build a list of these safe spaces, along with your personal experiences there.

About me: I'm 20M, an undergraduate student in Munich. I'm introverted, shy, and have high-masking autism ("but you don't look autistic" 🫠). I enjoy lots of things, but realistically, my studies don't leave me much free time for hobbies right now.

Hi everyone!

Google is allowing businesses in Germany to remove reviews by citing defamation laws. This annoys me, just like many other people. Recently, it started to show how many reviews were deleted. I saw people from smaller cities (because there are fewer venues there and it’s easier to collect statistics) doing similar analyses with Excel spreadsheets. So I decided to build an interactive map for big cities and added Munich as well.

The main challenge is collecting information from Google Maps. Google does not allow mass data collection through automated scripts, but there’s nothing stopping someone from doing it manually, so of course...

I did not collect the reviews themselves, only statistical data, specifically the current rating, the number of reviews, and the number of deleted reviews. Google recently started showing approximately how many reviews were removed. For example, Restaurant Pars removed from 201 to 250 reviews.

Based on this data, I decided to calculate the "real" rating of a venue, as if the reviews had never been removed.

How I calculated it:

I used the following formula:

real_score = (current_number_reviews * current_rating + deleted_reviews_estimate) / (current_number_reviews + deleted_reviews_estimate * avg_deleted_rating)

Where:

deleted_reviews_estimate = ((deleted_reviews_max - deleted_reviews_min) / 2) + deleted_reviews_min

deleted_reviews_max = the maximum number of deleted reviews (for Restaurant Pars = 201)

deleted_reviews_min = the minimum number of deleted reviews (for Restaurant Pars = 250)

avg_deleted_rating = 1

This is the approximate average rating of deleted reviews. In other words, I assume that every deleted review was, on average, a 1-star review. That’s probably not entirely accurate, but I think it makes sense to calculate the worst-case scenario.

Example:

Let’s take  Restaurant Pars:

current_rating = 4.8
current_number_reviews = 994
deleted_reviews_estimate = ((250 − 201) / 2) + 201 = 225.5
----
real_score = (994 × 4.8 + 225.5) / (994 + 225.5 × 1) = 4.1

I also created a statistics page to show which places remove the most reviews and which remove the fewest:

I’ll continue updating the map, although it takes a lot of time.

I've been going to gym 4x a week for 2 hours each session for the last 2 years, and I think I did pretty good gains. I'm also a PhD candidate in life sciences (male - late 20s), so having the biological understanding of how muscle-growth works also helped a lot.

I see a lot new people in the gym in the spring times, motivated but doing all sorts of mistakes that hurt their motivations and gains - I'm here to help.

Why I am doing this: I'm learning German (B2) and need to reach C2 in a year or so. I am really frustrated with the fact that I've been living in this country for the last 6 years and couldn't find the time to learn the language properly.

Since I'm spending a lot of time in the gym, it would be great for me to have a native speaker to interact with to use German more often in daily life, rather just using in Deutschkurses.

24m und bin wieder nach München/Umgebung zurückgezogen und suche Leute in der Auto- oder Motorsportszene, die mit mir z.b. morgen eventuell Motorworld oder Hofquartier abchecken wollen. Wenn Samstag nicht klappt, wäre ich auch offen, irgendwann mal bei einer Tanke vorbeizustrahlen und abzuhängen oder sonstiges zu machen. Falls ihr irgendwelche Events oder Treffen am Start habt bin ich safe dabei. Wäre nice mal tief in die Szene einzudringen, da ich leider niemand kenne mit der selben Leidenschaft, wäre es schön mal endlich Gleichgesinnte zu finden.

Ich fahre außerdem regelmäßig Kart in Ampfing oder Vilsbiburg und suche Mitfahrer. Ich meine es mit dem Kartsport ernst und suche daher keine Sonntagsfahrer. Wäre nice, wenn man dabei auch ein Team bilden kann, um z. B. bei den SWS Endurance Rennen teilzunehmen. Finde es mittlerweile etwas trocken, dort alleine aufzutauchen und meine Zeiten hinzubrettern.

Sonst hätte ich auch Bock auf Trackdays, Roadtrips oder Ähnliches in Zukunft. Mal so ein Trip zur Garda wäre auch mal so ein Ding.

Halt alles, was Autos oder Motorsport angeht, bin ich dabei xD

***ah ja vergessen zu erwähnen ich hab nen Bimmer und bin grad dabei ne Miata zu holen^^

Hello! I am an 26M engineer from Portugal who moved to Munich in April. My hobbies include:
- calisthenics (i can handstand and am a good teacher)
- bouldering (have only done it like 5 times, but I am really liking it thus far)
- exploring places by bike (I have a singlespeed but am going to get a gravel bike soon) (I also do all my maintenance and can help you with yours)
- making/fixing stuff (electronics/wood/3d printing)
- watching birds/wildlife

I'm looking to meet people who might share some interests! I also enjoy board games but I don't have any atm. And I haven't been to any Museum because I believe it is always more interesting to go with someone and talk about stuff. I don't really drink alcohol or enjoy loud music, though. I am also looking to improve my German since ich spreche nur ein bisschen. My English is very good if I may say so myself.

I am a 19m American college student visiting Munich in August for the first time by myself. I want to explore the nightlife and see how it compares with US and Asia. My music taste generally centers around pop hits and hip hop for clubbing, but I’m also fine with house music. M30 here looking for a bud to hit the gym from June onwards, probably for Saturday afternoon/evening or early morning, and another day in the week still to decide. I will have my wellpass from then and I will either go to Fitness First Moosach or Body+Soul Munich Nord.

I've never gone to the gym so it would be nice to have a buddy with a bit of experience who can teach me how machines work 😅

Apart from that, I would like to go to the Volksbad Sauna on Wednesday from 16-17 for 1-2 hours(it is near my office, but I also like going to Dante Bad or Michaelibad, I love the warm pools 🤣).

A bit more about me:

I am also an Anime fan, I love One Piece and I watch a lot of things in Crunchyroll. I like cooking, baking, taking a walk with my dog, travelling, reading (mostly chill things).
