After gaining independence from Sweden in 1905, Norway offered the throne to Prince Carl of Denmark - but he refused to accept unless the people voted for a monarchy over a republic. 79% said yes, and he became King Haakon VII, one of the very few kings ever to be elected by popular vote.

Why did Hungary and Romania not restore its monarchies after 1989?

Hungary still have the crown of St. Stephen as a symbol of their country, politicians now there have to swear loyalty to the crown, even oficially the name of Hungary is not "Republic of Hungary" only "Hungary". The dame thing with Romania when the last king was too popular in their country. In both countries republicanisn was imposed by Soviets after WW2 due it was under the soviet captured nazi territories (I will not say liberated).

So, why both countries after they recover its freedom, they don't restored its monarchies.

RIP Jurgen Wiig, known for his work on Monty Python and the Holy Grail training the moose to mix concrete and sign complicated insurance forms. He would’ve been 114 today
