Moving to Montclair soon, advice on these areas?

I’m relocating to Montclair for work and need to find a place by the end of the month. I’m on a limited budget, so I’m looking at some older buildings and areas that seem a little less polished than the neighborhoods north of Bloomfield Ave.

I won’t have a car at first, so I’d really like to be within walking distance of Bloomfield Ave and transit. I’ve toured a few places during the day and they’ve looked fine, but I’d love local perspective on whether these areas are generally okay for day-to-day living, especially at night/weekends.

The areas I’m looking at are:

  • Near Salvation Army: Orange Rd, Trinity Pl
  • Near Montclair Library: Roosevelt Pl, Union St, Hawthorne Pl
  • Near Glenfield Park: Maple Ave, Mission St, Woodland Ave
  • Near Bay St. Station: Grove St, Pine St

I’m looking for a place that feels comfortable for walking home at night and doing day-to-day errands without a car. If you know these areas well, how do they feel after dark in terms of foot traffic, noise, and general upkeep?

HI!!

As a recent Montclair graduate, it’s miserable being a winter grad guys we get no celebrations. I opened up my own business painting banners the past few weeks🥹😅

I figured posting here would be the best way to advertise … I hope.

I would like to offer a discount on my large banner option for the upcoming grads!!

I don’t understand why Montclair focuses on GenEds more than major courses. Ok, I get that, as college students, we need to have some basic understanding of everything, but why do I need to take art if I’m a business major, or bio if I’m a CS major? Plus, it takes more time and effort than major courses. Especially with all those new students committing, there are fewer classes because there’s no professor, and if there is, it would be the worst ones.

Summer bills came out yesterday and it’s confusing.

Last year my financial aid covered basically everything for summer classes and I was doing 7 credits.

This year I’m doing 6 credits and have a higher balance.

I compared last years invoice and I was getting way more aid. I checked HESSA website and it said I had enough aid to cover everything.

Is anyone else’s summer bill higher than last year?
