Alternative to Montblanc notebooks

The covers of Montblanc notebooks are so gorgeous but I refuse to buy one because their paper is not good with fountain pens. Has anyone found a notebook that has a cover as beautiful and high quality as the Montblanc ones but with good fountain pen friendly paper. There must be some out there. For reference I like Clairfontaine, Rhodia, Tomoe River papers. Thanks.

My two pen set

A Montblanc Meisterstuck 146 with a fine nib, and a balloint Classique geometry in rose gold in a fitting Mb leather case.

Love carrying it for places that definitely, without a doubt, do not require this level of fancy-ness.

Help with ID

Found this Montblanc fountain pen amongst my grandfather’s collection but can’t seem to find anything about it online. I found it weird to be MAN branded as my grandfather never worked for them. He worked at a bank for pretty much all his life. Any ideas about this?

nibmeister or montblanc repair service?

hi, i’m looking to get some advice as my brand new fountain pen bought online isn’t working as it’s supposed to (skipping, hardstarting, railroading) despite multiple attempts to flush it, change inks, change papers etc

i’ve heard mont blanc’s nib exchanged program takes MONTHS and i’m not sure i can wait that long

there’s no nibmeister in my state so i’m wondering if it’s quicker to pay for one and ship it to one for a faster processing time instead of sending it to mont blanc? thank you

(also wound appreciate recommendations of your favorite nibmeisters with links! thank you so much)

Identify Nib on 149?

Hi all, just wondering if there is a way of identifying what nib is on my 149? I bought it off a retired lawyer who said he thinks it was a medium but it feels like a fine to me. Thought?

First Pen Suggestion

I’m a physician and have a new job that I spend a lot of time at home working at my desk. My wife asked what I wanted for Father’s Day and I have been wanting a nicer pen. I want something that’s going to live on my desk but not really ready to take the leap into fountains yet. It’s mostly for the occasional paper work and for marking items off my lists each day while I’m charting. What should I be looking at/considering when I pick my first pen. I’m in my early 40s and wear a large glove. Thanks in advance

Edit:

I should have mentioned. I have a few EDC pens already. I have a tactile turn bolt that I love and it lives in my white coat and is carried around the hospital. I’ve replaced it twice in the last 8 years when it gets misplaced. I want a Mont Blanc for my desk since it’s something that won’t leave my home office and I won’t lose. I currently have a Tactile turn full sized that sits on my desk and had a montblanc rollerball refill in it. I liked it. I’ve also used the fineliner refill and like that too. I just want something fancier and the MB refills dry out when used in a retractable like my TT. Looking for recs on what Montblanc to buy as my first MB

Montblanc 149 1914 / 2026

Does anyone have any information about the Montblanc 149 edition 1914 that it’s about to be released in June this year ? I saw some quick pics and saw the coral and black color combination / and golden monotone nib, but I stayed curious about.

this is my first mont blanc pen and it's having a lot of hard starts and is also skipping... i've already flushed it with warm water w/ dish soap multiple times and even tried changing the inks (this one is mont blanc burgundy red) but it’s still having the same issue

per their customer service, they won't allow returns as it's already inked up... i don't have any nibmeisters near me

what else can i do? what seems to be the problem? photos in comments

Looking for Montblanc Extreme 3.0 Card Holder 6cc Black / Cayenna

Hello,

I am currently in the market for a new card holder and recently came across this beautiful piece. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to find it available anywhere.

I would really appreciate it if anyone could help me locate one or point me in the right direction.

Thank you in advance!

Update on my Montblanc L 139 G

Around 3 weeks ago I posted my 139 that I broke and some wanted a update- so here is the updated :)

The restorer was able to fuse the two pieces back together, the crack is still visible but it’s really well made. The hardware was polished and new plated, a new cork and cap top was installed, and the pen was fully polished.
Looks really amazing.
Nice little pen for which I have a nice story now 🤣

Am I Overreacting? Re Pen Pouch

Hello,

I just purchased a two pen pouch and noticed that some parts of the edge coating wasn’t even. Is this something expected from this line of product?

Folks, for your enjoyment, I present to you my newest acquisition: the Montblanc Sakura 333 fountain pen.

I’m essentially speechless. It’s utterly, extraordinarily stunning. (And ordinarily, I’m not someone who particularly likes either pink or rose gold, let alone both together. But it works *very* well here.) Because I was short on time, the pictures don’t do it justice. But I will someday grab my real camera and take some more formal pictures

(Note: the notebook shown in the pictures didn’t come with the pen - it’s a Moleskin sakura notebook. Moleskin isn’t my favorite paper for fountain pens by any means, but it’s serviceable, and I happened to come across it shortly after ordering the pen.)

I do have a question for y’all. I am grappling with whether to ink and use this pen or instead leave it un-inked and just have on display. I went through this when I first starting collecting fountain pens. I ultimately decided that, because my whole interest is specifically in “functional art” (with pens as well as other items that I collect), it would be weird for me personally to have a functional art object but never use it. Example: some people buy limited edition bike frames to hang on their walls as display objects. I don’t do that: I use them (carefully: I don’t go riding on rough trails with them, but I do regularly ride them under appropriate conditions). To each their own, of course.

But here’s the thing: although I got a relatively good deal on this pen compared to what it normally sells for, it still was rather expensive. I have one other limited edition pen (the Montblanc Einstein) that‘s of roughly the same value that I do have inked, use regularly, and occasionally carry with me; but unlike this one, while it’s also a limited edition, it’s far less limited (4810 versus 333). In addition, the Einstein is made of metal, not porcelain. And as you’ll see from one of the attached images from the booklet, it comes with a stern warning basically saying “Hey, dummy: this thing is a limited edition made of porcelain! There ain’t no replacement parts; and if you break something, we might not even be able to repair it. Proceed with due care.” So, given both of those facts, this pen isn’t ever leaving my house. And here’s the thing: most of my long-form writing occurs *outside* of my home. That is: I tend think and write best, and therefore most frequently, at cafes; less frequently, at my office at work. Since most of my writing is long-form work-related writing, this means that if I inked it, I would only use it rarely since it’s not leaving my house. That said: (1) I do do some writing at home - mostly short sessions of journaling and some creative writing for my own enjoyment; and (2) inking this pen only to use it rarely does strike me at first blush as silly and contradictory, but using it only rarely also makes it less likely that I’d damage it, so it would have some benefit, I guess.

I’d be curious as to your thoughts. What would you do given the parameters and constraints above

So as some of you know I bought this vintage montblanc for 80€. It finally arrived! A lot of you commented that this is a very expensive pen. I did some looking on eBay and saw some ridicilous prices which I doubt this pen is actualy worth. Now i have 1 vintage 146 that i use daily, I bought it in ruff condition so I am not afraid to use it. When it comes to thin new pen I dont want to harm it trying to fill it with inkt doing something wrong, so if you Guys have any tips pls let me know. Also I am only 19 years old and still go to uni. I take my 146 with me everywhere but i doubt I would dare to do that with this new pen if its really that expensive so I might sell it. My question for you guys, the experts :), is: 1)how do i see if the pen works without braking it?
2) if something is broken where can i get this fixed (i am based in Belgium EU)?
3) what would you estimate the worth of this pen at and which exact model is this?

Thank you alot in advance!!

Another Restoration/Repair for a 146

Paperwork says 1990 from Office Depot in Birmingham, AL. No serial, W. Germany, fuzzy box marked W. Germany. Helix has absolutely no nub left to attach to unfortunately, guess it’s going to have to be micro-drill and pick time, total pain!

New here

Hello MB community! So I am not a penny by any means… and have no clue about what I have here. It was a gift to a family member a long time ago when she graduated college. Has always sat in a safe in the original box never used. I have now become the owner of it and have no idea what I have or anything about this model, value, rare or common, entry level or upper end of things…

Any help from someone of knowledge would be much appreciated!!

And thank you all in advance!!
