Shawn Crossman Moncton's next mayor

Really disappointing, arguably the worst of the realistic candidates in my opinion.

Elected with 6593 votes, out of a potential ~41,000, total turnout barely 42%- just marginally better than the utterly dismal 39% seen NB-wide.

Subway restaurant in Moncton has been approved to hire three temporary workers for low-wage food service positions

While youth unemployment in NB is still at 12%, a local Subway restaurant is more concerned about how many temporary workers they can bring in to exploit. All three postings have received an approved LMIA (Labour Market Impact Assessment) to hire TFWs for Moncton/Dieppe-based positions, claiming that no qualified applicants could be found locally.

Links to the Job Bank postings in question

  1. Food Service Supervisor - #3511602

  2. Food Service Supervisor - #3508892

  3. Food Service Supervisor - #3508893

All Canadians are harmed when work permit scams are allowed to go unnoticed.

Applications can still be submitted for these positions, even after approval. If you applied for any of these roles and were rejected despite being qualified, please report the listings on the Job Bank, then file a complaint with the IRCC and your local Employment Standards Act regulator. Hiring temporary foreign workers when qualified Canadians are available violates employment law in all provinces.

monctonfeed.ca, a free live dashboard for Moncton

Hey r/Moncton, I built monctonfeed.ca, a single-page live dashboard pulling from 15+ public sources for everything that matters in and around Moncton day-to-day. Some of what monctonfeed.ca offers is:

  • Weather, AQHI, UV, daylight and wind
  • ER wait times at The Moncton Hospital, Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont, and Stella-Maris-de-Kent
  • Events from the city, Wildcats game days, Avenir Centre concerts
  • NB 511 road conditions for the corridors plus active road closures filtered from city notices
  • Gas prices (NB regulated max), the recycling zone picker so you know which day your bin goes out, ASD-E and DSF-S school closures
  • Weekly flyers from 7 chains
  • News from CBC NB, moncton.ca, the Province, and Acadie Nouvelle
  • Downtown Moncton updates and active capital projects
  • YQM arrivals and departures
  • Tidal Bore predictions for the Petitcodiac
  • 5 live city webcams: Bore Park, Avenir Centre, Main St causeway (east and west), Gunningsville Bridge

You can tap the star on each card and it will get pinned to a customized "My Moncton" section that opens first, so the page fits your needs and demands.

Free, no account creation, and no tracking. Works as a PWA so you can add it to your home screen.

Background: this started as freddyfeed.ca for Fredericton. The response there motivated me to build something authentic to Moncton as monctonfeed.ca.

If there's something you wish a dashboard like this should have, use the feedback link on the site. Happy to build it if the data is publicly accessible.

Hope the mods leave this up. Not selling anything, just a free resource for the city.

Hi everyone,

To make a long story short, I’ve come here on vacation to visit my dad’s family. I’m from allllllll the way from the other side of the country (Victoria BC) and I’ve fallen in love with the town. I’ve been here a few times with this being my 4th time and every time I long for coming back. I’m sure it’s a case of I love it because I don’t live here but there are so many things that are so much better than home. I’m a single mom with a 3 year old so relocating the two of us would definitely be a change that I need to do a ton of research into before even attempting. So tell me, what are the negatives of living here? What am I missing with my rose coloured glasses?

Thanks all

My god that is some seriously impressive housing density. And it looks like they are family sized units, which is nice considering how close the schools, sports centre, and the park are.

It’s a little sad that there is less of a buffer around Centennial Park, but at least they seem to be using every square inch of what they cut down.

I knew about the high rises being built down town, and I see a new building here and there, across greater Moncton, but I had no idea I was going to stumble upon a massive vertical neighbourhood when I decided to take a right instead of left on my nightly walk.

Japanese restaurant

What's the best Japanese restaurant in Moncton?

There is no restaurant that has an all-you-can-eat option.

Lunch recommendation?

I will be passing through (I wish I had more time but I don’t) and would like a recommendation for a nice place to stop for lunch, preferably downtown. Quirky or interesting places with local flavor would be cool, but I’m up for anything. Thanks!

Best Poutine in town?

What's your favourite place to get poutine in the area? I have an in-law visiting next week and she really wants to try a great poutine while she's here. I haven't had poutine lately other than from Costco, and my previous go to is closed now (rip Ed's sub poutine masters, you'll always live in my heart). Thanks for any input and opinions, much appreciated!

Looking for some friends late 20s ♡

I’m a mom of 3 boys looking to get out more on weekends, be social, and make some new friends. I’ve been pretty isolated the past few years with work, school, and life changes, and I’d really like to change that.

My older two boy's are in daycare during the week, and my youngest is a only a few month's old and home with me. If you’re in your late 20s, a mom, or just someone also looking to make friends, feel free to reach out. ♡

Located : in the Moncton area (near both city & French hospital).

Just saw Mark Normand last night and he was a riot!

I went to the show with my brother, we had a lot of laughs and enjoyed ourselves. Did anyone else go to the show, and if so, what was your favorite part? Comedy!
