MoDOT breaks ground on I-70 expansion, Rocheport to Boonville

MoDOT breaks ground on I-70 expansion, Rocheport to Boonville

The Missouri Department of Transportation broke ground on its fifth project as part of the Improve I-70 program.

A 13-mile stretch between Boonville to Rocheport will be under construction through late 2028 to add a third lane, traveling each direction, to the highway.

Tim Taylor, representative of the 48th district in the Missouri House of Representatives, said I-70 is currently chaotic and dangerous.

“I would much rather run into a burning building than to step foot on that interstate during an emergency situation,” Taylor said.

During the groundbreaking ceremony, Taylor said safety was a big factor in adding a third lane.

"The crashes and the delays on I-70 continued to get greater and greater," Taylor said. "When it came time for me to think about this project, and what it could do for the safety aspects, it was an easy sell."

Two Missouri companies were given funding from the state to consult on the design and construction of the improvements on I-70.

One of them, Capital Paving & Construction, is located in Jefferson City. They were given a $104 million contract for the construction of the 13-mile stretch.

“We’ve got Missouri money, funding Missouri teams, being built by Missouri citizens, to help Missouri citizens," Ed Hassinger, the Director of MoDOT, said.

Hassinger said the project will cause delays for drivers, but that the outcome is going to be great.

Help! - MO DMV / ID Nightmare

So I am 26F who is a non-driver. I’ve had a nondriver ID for years. The current one I have was not set to expire until 2027. I also usually do not usually have the money or many reasons to travel by plane. I have no passport. However, I was invited on a family trip to Hawaii around end of December with my partner and his family this year where my airfare and accommodations were paid for.

I went to the DMV to get a REAL-ID so I’d be able to fly. I was issued a temporary paper ID and they voided my current non-driver ID.

Flash forward to two weeks before the trip and the ID did not come in the mail as stated. I spoke to the DMV and they told me to wait 30 business days from issuance. The 30 days passes, and we are now ONE WEEK out from the trip. the DMV tells me the ID was marked as undeliverable to my home address by USPS and returned to Jefferson City THE DAY AFTER I spoke with them. The DMV said I can either come pick up the ID from Jefferson City, or have it re-mailed which takes about 2 weeks. I’m not able to drive 2 hours away for pick up obviously, so it’s being re-mailed.

I have signed up for USPS informed delivery to receive notifications and placed a hold on my mail to come pick it up directly from the carrier facility instead of waiting for mail carriers at my apartment. There is an extremely slim chance the ID will reach me in time for my flight. Getting an expedited passport is also not an option as it wouldn’t come in time.

So now, I have to pay the TSA-ID check fee of $45. Okay… that’s more doable. However, my temporary ID that was issued when I applied for the Real-ID expires 1 DAY before my flight.

I went to the DMV to see if I could get the temporary extended or get a new temporary since my ID did not come in the mail. The DMV told me that wasn’t an option.

Without a valid temporary and my voided non-driver ID, My options are as follows…

  1. Pay TSA ID-Check and without a valid ID, I answer TSA security questions to get on the flight. My fear is that my answers will not match and they will deny my ability to fly.

  2. Go to the DMV the Monday before my Friday flight, pay the fees, and BEG for them to put in another order for a REAL-ID. Which will earn me a non-expired temporary.

Can anyone (maybe a current or former DMV employee) speak to the DMV option? Will they do this for me as long as I pay the order fees and have proper documentation? I’m so desperate and sad over this whole thing. Please advise.

Representation in a Japanese show

Hey y'all, this is a question for the anime fans among you. Have you seen the show called the Darwin Incident? Being that it's set in Missouri, I'm curious if it represents your state somewhat accurately? Thanks.
