I still have my Mom's original Macintosh and still have memories using it as a kid. I wanted to make a cool shadowbox that I could display with it!

It took about a month to conceptualize, design, find a print shop that could do the custom artwork and mat board cuts, etc. Also had to find a decent motherboard on eBay and this one was for parts and in good visual shape.

For the nerds that are about to say "ACKSHUALLY, THAT'S NOT A 128K...THAT'S A 512K BOARD..." Yes, you're right. You caught me. Anyway....

If you want to build one, I saved all my design files and I also share where I got the shadowbox and the print shop (no affiliation, they just did a good job.)

Cost list:

Motherboard: $75 (depends on condition. 512K boards are a bit cheaper. Original 128K boards are $$$$$ and more rare)
Shadowbox: $52
Mat board cutting + background print: $85
Design time: Priceless

My vintage Mac laptops!

So I’m not a Mac collector but I was curious so I got these from a local collector a couple PowerBook 5300s (Ik those are not well liked lol) and a PowerBook 180!

Got all the batteries out and they all look good just a little bit of corrosion and no damage to my knowing.

Only have ac adapters for the 180 so I’ll have to get one for the 5300. Took me ages to get the 180s battery out lol finally got it out tonight so gonna hook it up tomorrow and hopefully it works

Top is a 6100/66 av. I do have a 6100/66 av in another room thats mint, but this one could be as well if i could find a cdrom bezel thats not broken. 7100/66 has av card, the 8100/110 is in a 7500 case so i call it my modded 8100. The 7200/90 is on the bottom. All recapped, and restored. On top of it all is a 17” apple vision crt thats recapped. Dont have room for all in my museum area, but this works. It is in my work / play area.

Had no idea that a classic Mac like this was capable of making music stand alone like this! Loaded up some samples and made this house beat.

I don't know much about Macs and Apple products, but got this old Mac a few days ago and want to factory reset the whole thing so I can have it to myself, problem is that I can't reset or re-install anything because the previous owner had a password set and (obviously) I don't know it.

I did try Comand+R and other things but nothing works. Anyone know how I can get around this? Thanks.

Here’s the signed case for nostalgia sake. Believe it or not it actually tried to load the OS. This motherboard sadly has suffered from an exploded battery. Will pull the salvageable chips and move on.

Hi, the other day this titanium PowerBook showed up in the mail and it has a broken hinge, I don’t want to replace it as it involves disassembling pretty much the entire laptop and I just want it to be functional, anybody knows any good ways on how to do this? Thanks!

I made a little macOS screensaver called MacDefrag, for anyone who gets weirdly nostalgic about old DOS disk defragmenters.

It does not make your SSD faster. It does not fix your filesystem. It does not improve your productivity.

What it does do is fill your screen with a lovingly fake retro defrag display: blue DOS-style colors, animated disk clusters, progress bars, status text, and the comforting illusion that your computer is doing something extremely technical and important.

Perfect for retro-PC fans, old-school nerds, or anyone who thinks “watching colored blocks move around” counts as entertainment.

I've been working on some retro benchmark software recently for DOS/Win9x machines and decided to port it to MacOS classic/68k and would love you guys to test it!

I've tested on my LC 475 with full 68040/FPU and MacOS 7.5.5 and also on Mac 9.2.1 in a VM.

Download: https://starrts.vogonswiki.com/downloads/StarRTSBench100.bin

It can be a bit slow to run but it would be great if some people to test it and give me any feedback.
