I was THIS close to a pricey mistake

I usually take care of my electronics a lot, especially my macbook but 3 days ago I made a huge mistake by leaving a glass full of water next to the laptop.

Next thing I know the water went flying (I hit the the cup by mistake) and made a mess (most of the water hit the table, barely any water got on the laptop).

I immediately tried cleaning what I could and thought that I was in the safe, except that couple minutes later it started restarting out of the blue and then turned off indefinitely.

I grabbed it and drove like a maniac to the store (I felt like a husband driving to the hospital for their wife's labour).

I was told that the team would send me a report within 2 days for the repairs.

Shit was so anxiety-inducing because I can't do anything without my macbook: university, personal projects...everything.

I was so worried and started calculating what would be the deciding cost to go for it or not. 500$? Too much but i can't do anything without my laptop. 200$? Fair but still. Whole motherboard is fried and needs a replacement? Lmao.

They contacted me two days ago and guess how much it cost? 20$!

"Found liquid damage inside, which caused corrosion around the lid sensor. Cleaned liquid and corrosion, started working fine"

Been using this since then, everything's alright.

I was THIS close to fucking everything up. Lesson learned :)

MacBook Air M1 is the best purchase I have ever made

Been a windows guy all my life. Thrived on Thinkpads, second hand corpo Thinkpads, T series Thinkpads, and more. Loved the keyboards. Windows? well that's how an OS is supposed to be, right? even if it takes precedence over my sanity. Also yes, I would like to keep my nuts un-roasted, thanks. A desk was a must.

Fast travel to my M1 purchase. Been hearing all the rave about this new ARM M thing that apple has created. Bought one, 16GB of ram. My android phone weeped (KDE Konnect FTW).

While leaning into the OS itself, there are no pushy apps? no pushy updates? what? everything looked so good, even the wallpapers. Display looked like heaven. Keyboard still wasn't a match for Thinkpads (I doubt any keyboard is, no, not even mechanical ones). But everything else? it was butter slide E2E.

Jetbrains opened in an instant. Android emulator ran faster than my actual Android device, Windows on parallels felt snappy, OS never got in my way of doing things. Everything I was greeted with the crisp refreshing touch of metal whenever I picked my beauty up. It woke up exactly like I had put it eons ago, always did. Never bothered with a shutdown.

Then one day, it fell down. From my table. Then again, from sofa. My wallet hid in a corner. Dents occurred to both my machine and my psyche. Nothing else. It is literally metal, I reminded myself.

Got a 4K monitor recently. Spent countless moons on reading stuff. Went for single cable USB C solution. Everything turned out smooth. Fonts look great. Nothing left to desire (discounting Studio Display of course). No extra app was installed not even better display.

It has been more than 4 years I've been driving this machine daily, and it still hasn't slowed down on me. I still do emulators, 15-20 safari tabs in each profile (work+personal), cursed NPM installs, dockers, unholy -e requirrements.txt with much servers running around, and more.

RTX 5090 vs M5 Ultra: Analyzing the "2.7x Faster" claim and what Nvidia didn't show you.

Hey everyone,

I recently came across Nvidia's official graphic comparing the RTX 5090 to the M3 Ultra, claiming a "2.7x speed advantage" in local AI tasks (LLMs). As a developer, it felt a bit like comparing apples to oranges especially with the M5 Ultra just around the corner at WWDC '26.

I did a deep dive into the architecture, memory bandwidth, and what happens when you try to run a 70B+ model on a 32GB VRAM card vs. Apple's Unified Memory.

A few key takeaways from my analysis:

  • The "2.7x" gap is mostly due to memory bandwidth, which the M5 Ultra is expected to bridge significantly (1.1 - 1.2 TB/s).
  • The RTX 5090 hits a wall with 70B+ models, while the M5 Ultra handles them entirely on-chip.
  • The power efficiency gap is still insane (575W vs ~100W).

I wrote a full breakdown of the specs, the "Single Die" rumor for the M5, and why Nvidia chose specific small models for their marketing.

Apple Magic Keyboard is currently under $80, is it worth it at this price?

This looks like a really nice deal at $79.99, it's the usb-c version and I am thinking about pulling the trigger. Do you think it's worth it at this price?

I think this is the most cost effective option nowadays . If you adjusted for inflation it might be the cheapest air with 16 /512 configuration ever !

MacBook Neo vs … nothing?

MacBook Neo vs … nothing?

Where’s even a single real competitor to the MacBook Neo this year? Something like an honest showdown, like the Samsung S26 Ultra vs iPhone 17 Pro Max. Everyone compares it to Windows laptops from previous years, but even older MacBook Air models, from M1 to M4, would crush them all. Is there any chance of seeing it during this memory crisis? I’m not even talking about build quality, the OS differences, and stuff like that.

The 2026 competitors to the MacBook Pro have increased in price by £700, now £500 more expensive than it. The MacBook offers twice as much SSD memory and significantly better performance, while Windows laptops haven’t increased memory and show only minor improvements up to 10% in performance.

What will happen to budget 2026 Windows laptops? In the coming years, we might never see a real competitor to the MacBook Neo.

My prediction for M6 specs

M6 CPU: 10(4+6) @ 5.1 GHz GPU: 12 MB: 190 GB/s GB6 Single: ~5,150 GB6 Multi: ~21,000 GB6 Metal: ~92,000 SSD Read: 7.5 GB/s

M6 Max CPU: 20(14+6) @ 5.4 GHz GPU: 60 MB: 800 GB/s GB6 Single: ~5,600 GB6 Multi: ~42,000 GB6 Metal: ~310,000 SSD Read: 14.0 GB/s

Basis for prediction:

The M6 series is expected to move to TSMC’s 2nm node, which Apple has reportedly secured the entirety of the initial capacity for. Based on early manufacturing projections for N2, we can anticipate a 15–20% increase in instructions per clock and a jump in frequency to the 5.0 GHz barrier

Industry roadmaps confirm that LPDDR6 mass production begins in 2026. Moving from the M5’s LPDDR5X (9600MT/s) to LPDDR6 (12,800MT/s+) would naturally push the M6 Max toward the 760-800 GB/s territory matching the original M1 Ultra but on a single chip

The M5 already utilizes the 14.5 GB/s ceiling of PCIe 5.0. For the M6, Apple is unlikely to jump to PCIe 6.0 (which is still emerging), but they are expected to fix the base binning issue by utilizing higher-density 512GB NAND modules as standard, bringing base speeds up to ~7.5 GB/s

My First MacBook After Years of Windows and Some Linux

After seeing so many things online about the wonders of Apple silicon I decided to jump on a good deal for a M1 MacBook air a week or so ago and I've never been more impressed using a computer. I have a gaming laptop desktop that is fairly old but working well. Though I hate using windows on it. I had been using a 10th gen intel Thinkpad for university with 1tb of storage and 32gb of ram and windows never felt as snappy as it should on that device even when brand-new. Plus the battery life was atrocious. After getting this M1 air I have been delighted using this computer for my school and personal work. The OS feels so snappy all the time and multitasking with 16gb of ram has been wonderful. I am continually impressed by how easily this laptop handles basic tasks that would take much longer on my other devices. Downloading pdfs and applications for school run like a breeze. Continuity features like using the keyboard and mouse on my iPad nearby and iPhone mirroring are amazing. I am most impressed by spotlight and preview. Being able to hold down the trackpad and instantly jump into an 800 page textbook and flip around lightning fast is just amazing. I know that the M1 air won't get updates forever but for my purposes that is just fine. I am fully sold on the Mac ecosystem!
