big law advice for people who are kind of small?
hey all, i’m interested in going into big law, but i’m kind of small (5’8” 155lb). does anyone have any advice on bulking up so i can get recruited?
And then there were 4…
I applied to 19 schools and haven’t gotten a single A 😀
Cycle Recap - What did I do wrong?
5 years WE, I really expected to get an A from at least one of the schools I got waitlisted at. Was I overestimating my stats? or was it because I applied too late in the cycle? or did I just get unlucky?
any advice for next cycle would be appreciated, thanks.
Cardozo Law
Hi!
I’ve been unable to find a lot of student experiences or feedback on Cardozo law, an the info regarding their starting salaries and job placement online is lacking.
Does anyone who is either a current or former Cardozo student, or anyone considering/ who was considering the school have any opinions or insight?
Thank you!
Cycle recap
Splitter cycle recap (on hold at NYU). Top choice was Penn, but I will most likely be attending Temple (full tuition Beasley Scholar) because I have not received any aid from Penn so far and my goals are east-coast public interest, ideally Philly. If I somehow get enough aid to stay under the loan caps I will do Penn, but it’s not looking great.
While the scholarship at WashU is nice, it is a priority of mine to stay on the East Coast post-grad and I don’t know that their public interest outcomes are impressive enough that it is worth taking out even more loans when I have a full ride at Temple, and a lot of WashU students seem to either stay in the Midwest or do NYC big law lol. (132k COA WashU, 85k for living expenses at Temple)
Brutal Cycle so Far, WWYD
Yes, I applied a little late (Graduated end of December and had to wait for my college to finalize my official transcript). But MAN! Maybe my head was too big but I was expecting better. Anyway, my mom is pushing me hard to wait another year, but I actually don't mind falling back on Oregon. I'm not super clear on what I want. Probably not big law, but corporate is intriguing to me and I love negotiations/conflict resolution. Please be honest, tear me apart I can take it.
Overlooks the possibility that the passages are selected for argumentative complexity rather than ideology 🤯
Because evolution is ideology n propaganda apparently 😂 Jokes aside, what is the point of putting urself through hell to pursue the law if this is how you feel about it 😊 no one is forcing u to be lawyer 🤯 leave babez
raising a low GPA?
hi! i'm a college sophomore looking to start applying to law schools the beginning of my senior year. i have studied so much for the lsat at this point the practice questions are engrained in my brain and won't leave. one question, though. i'm an english major with a GPA on the lower side (3.3 right now, 3.5 by the end of this semester) due to losing a close family member and having my house burn down both during my freshman year of uni.
i'm considering double majoring just to get a little more coursework in. i've always had top marks when it comes to history, and i'm debating on if i should double major or not. would the extra courses just be more work with mid result? could it help to raise my GPA if i, hypothetically, were to achieve a 4.0 from this point on?
i want to be a competitive applicant without being considered a heavy splitter. law school has been my dream since high school, and i hope to make it at least t20. any and all help would be appreciated.
I am an Associate at a "Big Law" firm who used this sub for advice years ago. Ask Me Anything!
Hi everybody! I am an associate at a large law firm in a major (but not NYC) market. I am doing Litigation/Investigations work and thought I would make this AMA as a matter has just wrapped up.
A bit about me (pasted from my last AMA in 2024):
Application Statistics:
GPA: 3.9high
LSAT: 17low
Softs: Standard internships with DA/state level entities, published senior thesis (using quant to address an IR problem).
Law School Details:
School: Upper T-14 (think Penn/UVA/NYU/CLS)
Law school GPA: 2nd quartile (3.5high on a 3.4 curve)
1L Summer: Big Law SA in regional market (Amlaw 100 firm / V100)
2L Summer: Big Law SA in different regional market (Amlaw 10 firm / V20)
Extracurriculars: Two secondary journals, moot court, geographic affinity group exec board
Ask me absolutely anything about admissions, law school, recruiting, etc.! And feel free to read my previous post from a few years ago about how to pick law schools for Big Law minded people here.
1L that chose Berkeley over UMich, Duke, & UVA -- Ask Away
I've grown to really like my school and I want to do what I can to answer questions about Cal. Ask away in the comments. The more questions, the less I outline. Yay!
EDIT: Also more than happy to DM obviously. Getting some chats there!
Pepperdine summer internships
does anyone know if summer internship positions/clerkships/etc. are usually unpaid? I saw someone mention this and wanted to get more insight if anyone has any!
How are you guys paying for this?!!!
With my best school offer, with merit aid and federal loans, I still need to source $120,000 in private loans!! I don’t even know where to start!! I’m first gen and just have no idea how to navigate this. Does anyone have any resources or advice?
why aren’t i excited?
so, i need to commit to law school. and like, im excited, kind of? i’m in at my top program, i have options, i got some money (still going to have a lot of debt), im moving to a city im excited about. but when i try to make myself pay my seat deposit, i cant do it. its not because im second guessing the school. it’s because i just can’t make myself do it? i’m really worried i’ll be bad at law school or i’ll fail out or i’ll never catch up to my debt. anyone else feeling this way, or am i insane?
Why are A&M’s medians so high?
I don’t know a ton about law schools but I was wondering why are Texas A&M’s medians so high, when it doesn’t really seem like it’s post grad placement is all that good? Are they just gaming the system?
options when it’s looking like i can’t afford my top school?
title! i got into my top school which is my top school for many reasons such as the fact that it is great for PI, in the city i 100% want to be in (my only non negotiable basically), i’ve always wanted to go there, great opportunities, etc. however, they unfortunately gave me little money, roughly 10% of tuition off a year. so all in all, not accounting for cost of living, i would have to pay far over 100k for all three years combined…
i know the very obvious answer is to go with a cheaper option, as i do have them, but the one other school im seriously considering is not in the city but in the same state (it’s also not ranked that great overall but good for PI). and the other school i like around the same about as the top school hasn’t gotten back to me and deposits are due the 15th and 17th…
is there a way to negotiate my scholarship and how do? how likely is it (i have a mid LSAT but a high GPA for reference)? do i still have a chance even though the deposit date is soon? what other options do i have, if any?
any advice at all is appreciated as i am first gen and all my other law school applicant friends r&r so its just me left!!
SLS vs HLS?
My family lives on the east coast and would prefer if I stayed close. My goal is to clerk (not married to the idea) and do biglaw on the east coast, not sure where yet. Also not sure if I want to be a career lawyer so whichever school gives the most flexibility to pivot to a different field is also something I’m thinking about.
Got $$$ at SLS and $$ at HLS so HLS would be much more expensive but that’s where my family & friends want me to go. What do you all think?
Not going to admitted students day
It's kinda really expensive for me to go to admitted students days for Berkeley (missed the weekend because admitted too late) I just don't have enough to cover the flight and the hotel upwards of 500-600 even with the reimbursement 😕
Is this bad? Will I miss out?
Do law schools use it against you when you don’t go to their admitted students day?
To be honest, the merit scholarship I was given wasn’t enough & I haven’t heard back about additional rewards I applied for.
I felt like going would get my hopes up when I know I can’t afford it with the package I was given.
