India’s economy isn’t powered by just Mumbai, Delhi, or Bengaluru.

Surat processes around 90% of the world’s diamonds. Coimbatore is a major textile and knitwear hub. Kollam plays a huge role in the global cashew trade. Cities like Ludhiana, Rajkot, Jamnagar, and Tiruppur quietly dominate entire industries without getting national attention.

According to compiled 2022-23 district-level GDP estimates, India’s top 50 cities together contribute nearly 40% of the country’s GDP. It’s a reminder of how economically diverse and decentralized India actually is.

Which city on this list surprised you the most?

Alarming population decline stats for Kottayam

Everyone says Kottayam is a sleepy town after 8 PM. Now we know why. The population is on the decline. Those who are of childbearing age have migrated abroad. And the ones that are here barely have one child. There are no industries or job creation attempts by the government, so inward migration is low. Ingane poyaal, Kottayam is doomed.

Best quiet place to relax during a layover in Kottayam

Got a few hours to kill during a layover in Kottayam. Looking for a chill spot that’s shady, not too crowded, and good for just relaxing for a while. Open to parks, quiet neighborhoods, scenic spots, etc. No cafes preferably

What would you recommend?

Kreupasanam people entering the hospital ICU

I have a relative's kid currently in Kottayam Medical College's children's wing - ICH. While the entry is restricted strictly to patients and bi-standers, the kid's parents were saying that a bunch of Kreupasanam people entered the ICU, distributed pamphlets, chanted prayers, and even kissed the kids. This incident makes me wonder how many such incidents happen in hospitals across Kerala. I don't have any personal vendetta against Kreupasanam - but in my opinion entering ICU is criminal. What if tomorrow, all religious groups and cults start doing the same.

Have you witnessed something similar?

How is Career Heights Pala for SSC CGL?

Hello, I am a graduate in engg looking for coaching centres and knew about Career Heights. Apparently this is the only coaching center that's giving SSC only coaching in Kottayam and its very expensive compared to other coaching centers.

But I don't know about quality of teaching, materials, behavior of faculty, infrastructure facilities. If someone who studied or studying in Career heights, please answer these doubts and also "Is Career heights good for a person focusing on SSC CGL" or will you recommend other coaching centers?

Looking for some friends in this dead time

Resigned around Easter, and came back to Kottayam. Unemployment sucks, what sucks even more is the boredom and loneliness. I was out of the state for a year and a half and it was great, but now I'm dead tired of doom scrolling for the past month and randomly going out aimlessly. Anyone up to just hang out? Im around the pala side

wholesome experience on kottayam roads

today i attended a function in kottayam and drove there from kochi. i’m generally a very calm and careful driver because i value safety a lot, so i usually slow down or stop to let other vehicles or pedestrians cross when needed!

what surprised me today was that on the drive back, i stopped three different times to let cars cross in front of me, and all three drivers thanked me with hand gestures and thumbs up!

coming from kochi, this felt unusual because i do this regularly there too, but maybe only 3 out of 10 people acknowledge it cause I think everyone is used to this!

so now i’m curious. is this kind of courtesy less common in kottayam, which is why they appreciated it more, or was it just a coincidence and i happened to meet especially polite drivers today?
