My partner will have to look at it every night when he goes go bed - he’s not the biggest fan of the Catalonia art giants.

APARTMENT UPDATE (see previous post)

I recently posted my apartment to this sub ready to get some advice. I took some of it and threw some out. This is the accumulation of more stuff but I think it actually looks better.

unfinished living room may cause me to go grey at 28

I need all the advice and input anyone can give. I feel the pieces of furniture in my place are beautiful, but I draw a blank on how to incorporate anything else into my space. I’m talking rug, roman shade color/print, couch pillow prints & color, making the blanket on the blanket rack match. (—the rack is slightly not my thing but it hides the cords so I deal in the meantime) The wall right by the TV is so bare but I don’t want to put another rectangular item there. Maybe a sconce but thats small. It just seems like the obvious choice to put art work there and I want something more design forward. Whatever the heck I mean by that? I don’t even know. I’ve contemplated a dark burgundy rug, but is that a terrible idea. I don’t know what would mix well with that, and I’m scared to pigeon hole myself into not being able to work with many colors. I want something flexible BUT all my upholstery in my house is a light color so I really want to add some character and something more grand. But of course, I have commitment issues. Any insight, direction, comments, would probably help me sleep better at night! I’m really trying to convince myself I can do it myself and I don’t need an interior designer. Thank you, thank you in advance !!

Help us pick a trim color!

Essentially the title. We had this beautiful mural painted for our baby girl's nursery. We are getting ready to finish the room, but cannot stand the orange wood trim, which now also features a shoe trim matching the new floors.

We need help deciding on what color to paint. Should we do a white or neutral? Or a soft green to tie in the mural and rug? A pink? Something else?

We plan to carry the baseboard color onto the windows and doors for this room as well.

I could use all of the advice and opinions - TIA!!

What should I add to my “coffee bar”?

Okay first- ignore the dirty walls & baseboards, I have 3 dogs, a toddler, and I’m 7 months pregnant so they don’t get cleaned enough 😂
I need help with this space!!! The third photo is what I started with. Then today, I went and got a few things from dollar tree temporarily. (First two pics)

The wall is so large & empty. I plan on adding shelves (like the last pic) & possibly sconces on both sides. Going to decorate the shelves and add mug hooks as well. But what else can I do? Maybe large plants on the floor? A smaller runner rug? Please give me your recommendations!

Also want to mention that the cart is centered with my kitchen, as there is a really short/small hallway to the right so it would be odd for me to move it over at all.
EVENTUALLY I will get a whole new cabinet but for now I’m just using what I have!

Build-in cabinet design

Trying to optimize this living room for SF resale — would love honest feedback on the color of built-ins cabinet near fireplace

This is a 1920s-ish home in California . I’m trying to balance modern buyer appeal while still keeping some character.

Current design elements:

- Euro oak floors

- Benjamin Moore Simply White walls

- decorative/chandelier-style crown trim

- Fireplace painted Benjamin Moore Narragansett Green

Considering adding low built-in cabinets on both sides of the fireplace

I mocked up two versions:

- Warm greige built-ins

- Crisp white built-ins

Main questions:

- Which cabinet color works better for resale?

- Do the built-ins improve the room, or should I leave the sides open?

My goal is:

- warm modern feel

- slightly elevated/high-end

- broad buyer appeal in SF

Would appreciate any honest feedback from designers, stagers, or homeowners who’ve sold recently.

Replace current black chairs with these?

I like an eclectic earthy modern farmhouse vibe (i literally live in an 1860s farmhouse). Would these chairs (1st photo) work better than the current ones? I don't want wood because there's already so much woodwork/wood tones in the room. The price on 4 of these is very good.

Staircase advice needed

Hi,

My wife and I need to pick a color for our staircase (urgently = today), and we are doubting heavily between RAL 5002 and RAL 5024 (as we need to pick a RAL).

We made some renders to mimic our setup, but it’s not entirely correct. Our staircase will only be truly visible the first 8 steps and is a more elegant design (I tried fixing it in the image with RAL 5002).

I also have a color palette attached including; true samples of our kitchen materials, a sample of our windows, and some green tiles we use on our facade (which is not that relevant for our interior tbh).

Could you please vote the one you prefer or give some feedback?

Thanks!

Japanese living room+dining

Hi, I just moved to Japan and here is my living+dining. In the middle it will be island sofa (sofa with no backrest) but the whole design seems too boring for me and I'd like to add a bit of funkiness to it/colors but still keep classy. Any ideas? Rug/lamps/tv stand?

behind this there is a tatami room.

What kind of couch would work best in this room?

We need more seating in our small living room in the form of an additional or new couch. The issue is we have a small recess to the left of the window.

We decided to order the exact same couch we already have to go under the window, but it looked all wrong. It was too deep and there was a weird overlap of the arms. Our next idea is to sell both couches and get a corner sofa that is the same length on both sides. But that means that on the window wall, the couch won’t sit flush against it due to the (annoying) recess.

We were thinking about getting one of those narrow shelves that go behind the couch where you can put your phone or drink (I’ve included a photo). We thought that might help make it look better, but it’s not that visible.

What kind of couch would work best in this room?

Notes:
The green chair doesn’t have to stay.
We can’t change the location of the TV.

Thank you ☺️

Please help me choose a colour to paint this wood!?

OKAY I WILL NOT PAINT THE WOOD. THANK YOU REDDITORS. So, no one reads the caption, do they? 🙈

Help, the woodwork in the entire of my downstairs is so dark, so we want to paint it. So I need help picking what colour to paint the skirting, windows etc

We will be getting new flooring soon, thinking a warm oak herringbone. What colour do I paint this woodwork? Im not going near a white.

I'm thinking I'll strip the doors and then just wax them. Any ideas?

Please excuse all the toys - my toddler rules the house and this is the family room.

A Color Story

Started with a brand new bright white house and once I settled on a palette it came alive. I love when the home flows and feels cohesive. I think I am accomplishing that!

We purchased our house 6 months ago and still do not know what to do with our “den/living room 2”

We’re in Florida, and are blessed to have this newer open floor plan with higher ceilings house. However the blessing and curse is to figure out what to do with this area. I really was against ANOTHER SITTING AREA, as you can see we have plenty as you walk in the door, however I think we should do one. We are thinking a more formal look to our informal couch sectional. Maybe a leather rolled arm couch with two seats. What would you do?

New help with bed positioning

Which way should I place my bed it’s a small bedroom I wanna maximize the space I have. The door you see in the corner is my closet. Picture 1 or 2

Would this black wood bed look okay with lighter oak nightstands + dresser?

This is pretty much the only thing I’ve found that I like within my budget. I do not want an upholstered bed and don’t like the bed that comes in the matching set with the light oak dressers. Last photo #6!is my current bed, wall color and floor color. There will eventually be rug and diff bedding to bring in color but wall color is staying

Help me pick a colour for this door!

Townhouse in Vancouver, BC (Canada). North facing and not super bright despite the large windows. Concrete floors, cobalt blue light fixture above dining table. Jute rug no longer there (thanks, pup…). Dining chairs are black, dark blue, and sage green. I love having a colourful door and do enjoy the red, but ready to try something new. Suggestions, please!

awkward living room set up, where to put tv/couch?

I have a very large couch (10 foot) and I can't decide which orientation is better for my space- on one hand the tv has no way to go directly across from the couch and the other it limits the walking space and feels unintentional.

the only piece of furniture I have is the couch. please let me know what you'd do!

Designing our toilet, a story through pictures

I had a vision which I drew terribly, but it worked out 🤷‍♀️. I don't know what my camera does, but I promise my toilet is white on the inside and cleaned very often 😅.

My hubby and I did this together. I had this vision, my hubby did the execution and I did the finishing touch (painting, wallpaper and decor)

What color palette for towels would work for this bathroom?

I just don’t want a terracotta or salmon color for towels, but don’t know what would work with this wood. Any suggestions ?
