Hi! I am looking for a scent that will make me smell like I just walked on a beach in Maine in a thunderstorm. I don't want to smell woody or musky in a masculine way. Really hoping to get something very literal though that is oceany in a non tropical way. It could smell like I just got out of the ocean. I don't even mind if it is seaweedy. just like a true northern ocean scent that doesnt have florals or coconut or anything tropical

Preparing for the special order window. If you’ve smelled these what are your thoughts?
Any others I need to check out? I love sweet and vanilla
Dragonfly wings
Reduced to a thing that wants you
Nothing burns like the cold
Don’t listen the woods
I think about you too
An ancient waters of Venus
Beautiful but annihilating
Mermaid sing
Love and complications
Happy Friday! Happy May Day! We are about halfway through astrological spring so it is time for a check-in. Have you managed to get a 5 in a row Springo yet? Are you aiming to fill out the whole card? Let us know what you’ve been using this spring in the comments. Any great new discoveries, or old faves you forgot about?
If this is your first time seeing this, check out the original post here and feel free to hop on. (There’s also an autumn one in the original post for you southern hemisphere folks!) I’m probably going to post the summer card a bit earlier in June than the actual solstice because I want to have it available for more of Pride month, but that still gives you over a month to play with this card. I’ll post a final check-in a few days before I share the summer card.
I hope folks are finding this inspirational in using more of your collections! For myself, I've filled in a bunch of squares but only have one bingo (the second row across) - I'll put my bingo perfumes and a couple other squares I'm really happy with in the comments. As long as you’re enjoying your indie product horde you are winning, but if you need more motivation, I will shower you with spring emojis for hitting a bingo and sharing what you've used 💐
Hey y'all! It's been a while since my last review, but I am excited to be trying new Sorce! Meet Me on the Sunnyside is also ordered, so I'm looking forward to that later this month.
Listed notes:
(Bergamot, Magnolia, Wisteria, Iris, White Chocolate, Sandalwood, Cashmere, Musk)
Right off the opening we get powder. Not too much for me, and I am not a powder lover. And the Purple. Reaaalllly nice purple. Excellent purple. Like goddess shampoo, makes your eyes roll back in your head a bit because of the sweet headiness that is near perfection. I think the wisteria is putting in some work here. The floral and powder and white chocolate are just GAH. So good.
Unfortunately, there is a "but" coming. Does this have a note in common with Light Through Clouds? I'm getting a bitter rubber here, that is absolutely ruining the purple vibes for me. LTC also had this same effect on me. I think it may be the way that the citrus and musk play together. I see how the bergamot in Beyond the Veil should really lift this whole thing, but it doesn't blend cohesively for me.
However: If Light Through Clouds or The Lovers is your jam, this is the purple fairy version of those. Not identical, but similar enough that I would recommend picking up a sample.
Notes for Light Through Clouds:
(Sichuan pepper, sugared lemon, green mandarin, water lily, olibanum, white tea, cloud musk, ambergris, sandalwood, gurjun balsam, vetiver, golden amber)
In the case of mailing hazmat items such as perfume, does it matter if the total weight is over 16 oz or a pound if the total perfume oz is under 16 fl oz? Thanks in advance.
Happy hump day! if today's perfume could be in any shape bottle, what would it be? (Pictures encouraged)
Rice fragrance
I’m looking for a very sweet creamy maybe milky or lactonic rice scent.
Any suggestions??
Hey all! I have organized a few in-person indie perfume meetups over the years and now I want to help you do the same, so I created a spreadsheet.
I have generally found other locals by selling them something from my destash or them randomly mentioning a local event or landmark in a comment which I happened to catch. I want to make it easier for indie perfume enthusiasts to find each other.
All local groups will be self-run and self-organized. Want to see this happen near you? Here's how to do it.
- Create an online space for your local group to organize, such as a Discord server or FB group, whichever is easier for you.
- Send me your general location (doesn't have to be specific, for example "Central NY/ Southern Tier" is mine) and a link for your group chat (if using Discord, make sure the invite link is the kind that doesn't expire)
- Announce the creation of your group in this subreddit (or send me a chat)!
Note: If serious issues occur in a local group and credible proof is given, the mods here may remove a link from the spreadsheet, but again, we are not responsible for the conduct of local groups...just trying to make them easier to find. Any drama posted here regarding local groups will be removed by mods.
A few tips for local meetups:
- Choose an area with a large outdoor space where you can keep some distance from other people, such as a park or beergarden.
- Always have a rain date.
- Your local group decides how frequently you meet, from a one-time event to a monthly meeting.
- Your local group decides if the event will be 21+ or all ages (or a compromise, such as meeting in a park before heading to a brewery).
- Bring pens and post-its for testing things.
- Bring alcohol wipes.
- Use your group chat to combine orders and save on shipping.
- Sell/swap destash items.
- Share your collection spreadsheet (if you maintain one) in case someone wants to test something from your stash.
- Have fun!
Hello! I’m relatively new to the fragrance scene, but not to importing. A few months ago I found a few reviews on perfumes from indie (and a few niche) brands in China, and decided I had to try them! Importing was a bit of a hassle, but cheaper than expected.
Overall, I was very surprised by these! A lot of these ended up being a lot spicer than anticipated. Tea scents are also very common, and I was surprised at the differences between them! A good majority of these scents are advertised as unisex, which I find very interesting compared to how often scents are gendered in the west.
The star of the show was definitely Qicunjiu’s Yuanying. It was advertised as being similar to rice, but when I took a whiff it was very sweet yet masculine at the same time! I definitely will be trying out more from this brand.
I also thoroughly enjoyed Black Paw’s sandalwood pack. It has a black sandalwood scent and a white sandalwood scent, and I found both very pleasing to the nose.
Another brand I tried, Lost Little Star, is a much smaller indie than the other two. I found their scents a little polarizing - some were very spicy and strong - but others were a bit more mellow. I’ll have to figure out which note of theirs I didn’t enjoy, because it seemed to be in most of the samples I got from them.
I also got a little solid perfume from an indie that was based on historical perfumes from China, and hoo boy I had to quarantine that quick! I didn’t even have to open it to smell it, it was very strong and spicy. The history nerd in me had fun with the concept, but my nose disagreed with my enthusiasm, unfortunately.
I also tried a few non-indie but still niche brands, like To Summer and Modern Bath Art. As they are not relevant to the subreddit I won’t touch too much on them, but I enjoyed everything I got from both.
Overall, this was a very fun experiment! I will definitely be ordering more to try, particularly from Qicunjiu.
All of these brands are available via Taobao, and I used a proxy website to ship. Some proxies will not ship perfumes, as a heads up for those who want to try a similar experiment.
Yay! You've made it to the end of the week! Today's challenge is colors. What would be the color of today's scent? Pantone swatches encouraged.

Let's talk about the "and more!" part of IPAM. Tell us about other ways you shop small, such as makeup, nail polish, hair/body care, artists, authors, jewelry, etc. If it's indie (or close to indie), we want to hear about it! This is not limited to online shopping. Local finds are also treasured. This could be tarot decks, furniture, a book about a redneck wizard, kindle accessories, pottery, hand painted bookmarks, etc. Feel free to share pictures or links!
A follow-up to yesterday's challenge: what are some creative ways that you interact with the indie items in your life? Displays/organization, resourceful ways to use samples, perfume journaling/tracking, etc.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
Let's have some fun to get the week started! Regarding your chosen Scent Of The Day (SOTD), What memory, experience, character, or item does that scent remind you of (real or fictitious)?
