Tires with the least rolling resistance?

Traded in my sports car for a hybrid because I'm a broke college student who can't afford premium gas anymore. I have a 2012 Toyota Camry Hybrid and it averages 45-50MPG per drive in the city and 35-42MPG per drive on the highway.

What are the best low rolling resistance tires I can get? And I mean tires with the *LOWEST* rolling resistance, I don't care about noise or comfort. I just want tires that'll maximize my MPG.

(once in a blue moon if the conditions are correct, I can average 60mpg city according to the car)

Edit: they don't need to be all seasons, I plan on saving my current set for winter since they're 3 peak rated.

I wanna make mods but don't know where to start, to improve my mpg

(pic 1) I wanna make wheel skirts for the rear wheels, (pic 1) add more aerodynamic wheel rim plates, (pic 2 and 3) add more of a lip to the end lips above the rear tail lights, (pic 4 and 5) and finally tape and wrap up the top roof rack handles to smoothen them out for better aerodynamics, are there any suggestions about what material I should use, or any unforseen stakes I'm about to make? please and thank you 🙏.

Is there anyone here that hypermiles a gas guzzler?

If so, how’s that going for you?

Please list the year make, model, engine displacement, epa combined mpg and your mpg

F10 520d lci

64.7 MPG (UK)_ (4.4l/100km) average over 5000 miles, mostly driven on motorway. Current fuel prices have induced me to hypermile when possible. BMW F10 520d LCI 2015.

Does anyone who averages less than 10mph for all their driving beat the epa city rating on a hybrid vehicle?

I average 8 mph because I'm always in city traffic and can't beat the 40mpg you are supposed to get in a city with my crv hybrid.

Does anyone have any insight into when the supposed advantage of city driving becomes a disadvantage due to too much stopping?

Or is anyone proving this to not be the case?

If you don't have experience or special knowledge about vehicles averaging less than 10 mph for all their driving, maybe your comments won't be as valuable.

edit: i did some more research to add to my point. The epa uses 21mph average for its city ratings and tops out at 56mph. The citywide speed limit in NYC is 25mph, so no one there will ever match epa conditions.

As one commenter has pointed out, 0 mph average is obviously bad mpg. 21 mph is better mileage than 48 mph for hybrid cars (what the epa uses for highways). Where is the number below 21 where it starts to get worse?

Modifications for Fuel Economy

Hi everyone! I've had a 3.0L CDI (turbodiesel) Merc for about a month now and I am utterly staggered by the fuel economy (in a good way), considering the 3L V6 engine, auto transmission and curb weight of 1,850kg unloaded. I have always got good fuel economy in all sorts of cars for what they are - I've always tried to drive smoothly and gently, but this Merc really does impress me.

Most of its driving is in dense urban environments with frequent stops for work (basically worst case scenario) and it still achieves ~28-32MPG UK (10.1 - 8.8 L/100km) under these conditions.

This has had me thinking about what I could do to stretch the fuel economy a little further. I'm already planning on having it remapped on a rolling road to tune the engine for lower RPM driving. However I'd like to take it to somewhat of an extreme by covering the sporty-styled wheels and making other mods.

The thermostat already kicks the fan in on warmer days as a fair amount of the day is spent in traffic and the car doesn't feature an engine stop-start system, so I'm reluctant to block off any airflow until Winter comes back around. I'll also try some quiet and efficient tyres at some point in the future, but car tyres are bloody expensive!

I'm going for a longer drive in the countryside today and will see what fuel economy I achieve. I'll run a proper control test before any mods in the future, late at night so traffic is a lesser factor.

I was wondering what other people have done, or considered doing, to get better fuel economy from their cars. I'm not after overall monetary savings, just maximum MPG. I'd be quite happy to spend more on mods then I'd save on my fuel bills. If anyone wants to know what car it is for the airflow, it's a pre-facelift 2011 CLS.

I'll keep this thread updated with mods and their approximate effects on fuel economy.

1 gallon =4.546 litres
1 litre = 9.5kWh
1 gallon = 43.187kWh
7.4 mpkWh = 318mpg

I was kind a cheating as I started at 500m up in the mountains. It’s the highest I’ve ever seen in this car. I usually get more like 3.5 mpkWh (150mpg), this trip I averaged 4.2mpkWh so 180 mpg

If you really want good efficiency you need to go electric, it’s a whole different league to what you can do on petrol or diesel.

Sedans are the best vehicle for Hypermiling due to their aerodynamic shape, change my mind

If you want to hypermile and get 40+ mpg, you’ve gotta get something aerodynamic (aka a sedan)

Look at sedans and how they perform in wind tunnels; their shape minimizes drag and allows you to maximize fuel economy (I highly doubt you can be that aerodynamic in a hatchback)

Just trying to figure out if my driving is fuel efficient and also how can I improve. Thanks

Fuel efficiency?

Can anyone explain why google maps is saying it’s 20% more fuel efficient to go through mid wales which is slower, hillier, will have more junctions and roundabouts than going the route past Chester which is just motorway.

What car?

So I’m in the U.K. and looking at selling my e46 to buy a much better efficiency car as I now commute 40 miles a day, approx 10 of b roads and 10 of dual carriageway each way. Budget of £2.5 max
What would you go for?

Passat 190hp TDI 4motion

Relaxed driving on the Autobahn around 110kph.

Quite ok für an all wheel drive 190hp station, 10y old station wagon.

Could get around 3.8 - 4l while hanging behind a truck with speeds around 90kph.
