How high do gas prices have to get before pickup/fullsize SUV owners give up their vehicles?

I feel they’re stubbornly holding on to their vehicles despite the fact they know they’re suffering financially

Would $20/gallon gas make them give up their vehicles?

Or would they just go into debt to drive their brooder?

Why do pickup owners install massive front bumpers on their Emotional support vehicle? Is it so they can show everyone they’re a big boy?

Like I don’t get it, what purpose do those bumpers serve (other than to intimidate cyclists and corollas)

Is this just part of the goofy macho, intimidating persona they try and have?

Religion was initially created to cope with reality but was soon corrupted into a means of controlling the masses

People first invented the concept of a god to give themselves the following

- a sense of meaning

-a sense of community,

-a way of explaining the unknown

-sense of purpose

a way to cope with a harsh reality (your suffering will all workout in the end/god has a plan for you sounds much better than you were the victim of a random unpleasant event)

But something happened

The leaders of the ancient world realized something

“We can manipulate the masses into doing what we want by saying their god commands us/commands them to do it and who are they to question god”

This, combined with childhood indoctrination, is why religion has stayed around despite it being an outdated and primitive institution in our modern world

Why do people who drive gas guzzlers get so defensive when you bring up how much money they’re spending on gas?

(This is referring to a previous post in a different subreddit)

My genuine curiosity of how people who drive gas guzzlers are affording gas right now was met with hostility / people not answering the question and attacking the OP — but why? Why are they so hostile when this question comes up

People were saying things like “this post says a lot more about your financial situation” “not everyone is poor” “mind your own business” “I just fill up and go, what am I going to do, not drive?”

Someone told me pickups owners have a persecution complex which is why they’re so quick to rage at someone (this would explain a lot)

I drive a nice little gas sipper, I’m not stupid enough to drive a pickup truck to Walmart and back and to never tow/haul with it

How are people who drive gas guzzlers even surviving right now?

How do you think people who drive gas guzzlers will react to these high gas prices?

Gas is $1.70-$2.20 a litre (depending on the province)

and I can’t help but think “the people who drive gas sippers are living life stress free right now while the people who drive gas guzzlers probably experience emotional damage every time they fill up”

edit: I don’t own a gas guzzler, prices barely affect me

Also it was just a general question, no need to get so defensive/aggressive in the comments over your gas guzzlers

Would Christianity collapse if people couldn’t indoctrinate their children into their worldview?

Would removing the possibility of childhood indoctrination make religions collapse globally?

Or would religion still be around despite the absence of childhood indoctrination?

I’m thinking of doing ubereats as a side hustle — is it even worth it in 2026?

Long time ubereats drivers of reddit, would you recommend someone do ubereats? Is it worth it?

So I have a buddy who does it, he says a bunch of good things about it, heck I’ve even tagged along with him in his car to see what’s it like and he inspired me to try it — but should I?

I’m not expecting to make a massive amount of money off it, just so long as it’s at least at or above minimum wage

I feel I can make a decent amount of money so long as I decline low paying trips and stack orders in one trip

Manual Nissan sedans … Are they more reliable than their CVT counterpart?

Apparently the manual version of most Nissan sedans is much more reliable/can last a long time compared to their CVT brothers — is that true?

I’ve been looking at a couple of Nissans and I feel manual nissan sedans (2000-2015 Nissan versas, Sentras) are a hidden gem but I want to get this subreddit’s opinion before I seriously consider buying one

Why has American Christianity gotten more extreme in the last couple of decades?

Is this just how a religion behaves when it knows it’s dying (especially among young people)

Like what is motivating the church to adopt more extreme policies?

“we can’t understand god” “God has a plan for you” “God works in mysterious ways” … what?

If you can’t understand god then how could you know this thing is part of his plan/that he works in mysterious ways (you don’t understand him after all, right? So how could you know he’s working in mysterious ways / god has a plan for you”

Also the “god works in mysterious ways” is deployed when Christians can’t come up with a logical explanation for god’s shortcomings (e.g. immense suffering going on without god intervening to stop it)

IF you’re an atheist and want to be even more convinced to stay an atheist … just read the Bible

I’m currently reading the Old Testament (I’m on psalms I read all of the New Testament which was very repetitive)

The Bible shows god’s true nature (a being who will only care about you if you blindly obey him and who commanded genocide of neighbouring tribes, who interpreted with people’s free will, and who overreacts when people don’t worship/praise him)

The god of the Bible sounds like a controlling narcissist who only cares about being worshipped and who refuses to take accountability for negative developments

“God always makes something good come out of peoples suffering” … nonsense

Why would an all loving all powerful god allow suffering in the first place if he could prevent it?

Even if something good comes out of suffering, it’s still not an excuse for suffering; couldn’t god just make someone learn an important lesson without suffering

Also, how do they know god always makes something good come out of suffering? It’s just a claim without evidence?

How do they explain instances where someone suffered immensely and no good came out of it/where they suffered even more as a result?

Suffering happens and typically can’t be prevented because god doesn’t exist

Free will and an all powerful god cannot coexist

Omnipotent god means he can do whatever he wants

Also the free will defense is just a way for Christians to shift the blame from their “perfect” god to us mere humans because they’re too indoctrinated to believe their god can be bad (he is bad, god is also a sinner(

Free will means you can di whatever you want without interference

So which is it, Christians? Does god have a plan for you or do we have free will and can decide our own fate?

God can’t have a plan for you if you have free will, you could use your free will to modify his plan and have a plan for yourself

Thoughts?
