Can't get to this sack... is it a glitch?

I finally got the platinum for Hogwarts Legacy on PS5, and I have mixed feelings.

To be blunt, this was the worst platinum I’ve ever done.

If I was playing strictly for the platinum from the start, I probably could have done it in around 40 to 60 hours. My time went a bit longer because on my first playthrough I was actually enjoying the game, exploring, taking in the world, and just playing normally.

That is probably the most frustrating part of this whole thing. The first 10 hours of Hogwarts Legacy are excellent. Hogwarts looks incredible. Hogsmeade is great. The atmosphere is strong. The combat is interesting. The spell combinations are fun enough. For a while, it really feels like this could be an all-time Harry Potter game.

Then the game starts to fall apart.

My biggest issue is that the game is unfocused. They went too big. If they had kept the game centered around Hogwarts, Hogsmeade, and the Forbidden Forest, I honestly think this could have been legendary. Instead, the world keeps expanding, the content gets thinner, and after about 5 to 10 hours the magic starts wearing off.

The platinum made that problem impossible to ignore.

The collectibles are terrible. Field Guide Pages are terrible. Running around spamming Revelio for hours is not meaningful exploration. It is busywork. The chambers all start to feel the same. A lot of the side content feels low effort. Merlin Trials are completely trivial and massively overused. There is just too much filler.

The moment that nearly broke me was when I had finished all the obvious cleanup, did the trivial Merlin Trials, collected a mountain of stuff, and somehow was still missing around 30 items. That was the point where I stopped feeling challenged and started feeling punished. I genuinely started questioning whether I even wanted to keep trophy hunting after that.

That is not an exaggeration.

And then there is the Map Chamber trophy situation. Making people reach the Map Chamber with each house is one of the most annoying trophy decisions I’ve seen in a long time. It is not hard. It is not interesting. It is just a waste of time. I did the extra house runs on story difficulty and skipped everything just to get it over with. I think the other three took me around 1.5 to 2 hours total because I was moving as fast as possible, and even that felt stupid.

I also need to mention the doors. The loading doors got more annoying the longer I played. I know a lot of the bigger issues have been patched, and I did not run into many serious bugs, but the door delays were enough to make me lose my mind by the end. I also got stuck a few times and had to reload, but that was rare.

As for the story, this one is complicated. While I was playing through it normally, I liked it. Looking back after being forced to stay with the game much longer than I wanted to, I think the story is just okay. Not terrible, but pretty mid. I also do not think this series should lean too heavily on a user-created character if there are no real consequences to your choices. The lack of consequences makes too much of the game feel generic. If they are going to let me shape the character, then my decisions need to matter. If not, give me a stronger main character with an actual identity.

I also think the school experience should have mattered more. That is where the game had real magic. Make classes harder. Make learning spells feel earned. Stop teaching me something powerful in one class and moving on. Make me work for it. Give me more student life, more tension, more structure, more immersion.

This is also why I think flying and fast travel hurt the game. Once those systems fully open up, exploration becomes trivial. If the map was smaller and movement was more limited for longer, the world would have felt more immersive and more intentional. Instead, the game gives you too many ways to bypass the parts that actually feel magical.

For anyone going for the platinum, here is my advice:

1. Use Ancient Magic on every enemy type you come across. I actually got that trophy without tracking it because I was doing it naturally.

2. For the house-specific Map Chamber trophies, do the extra runs on story difficulty and skip everything you can. There is no reason to drag that out.

3. For collectibles, use a spreadsheet or checklist. I strongly recommend doing as much of the collectible cleanup as possible during your main playthrough. Do not leave it all for the end. By the time I hit endgame, I was already around 90 percent done and level 38, and even then the cleanup still sucked.

When the platinum finally popped, I was not excited. I was not proud. I was just done. I immediately started writing this and I am about to delete the game off my drive. That is probably the clearest summary I can give.

Hogwarts Legacy is not a bad game. In some ways it is a very good one. But it is also a game that feels like it missed its real potential, and the platinum experience exposed every weakness it had.

If Hogwarts 2 comes out and the platinum looks anything like this one, I am out. There are too many other games worth playing to put myself through this again.

That is the harsh truth from someone who has been gaming since childhood and does a lot of platinums.
