Boston Scally “The Cool Air”

Received my new vented Scally lid for the summer season. This makes number three now and no complaints again. I like the fit and feel oh and the ventilation. 🙂

Christmas in April, had to share....

My Daughter and my Wife, for my birthday, each gave me gift cards for BS. I had to wait to get the high-demand "The Bootstrap". I also added the Penalty Box, a shirt, and a few pins. IT added to the Grateful Dead and The Bourbon.

Anybody else questioning hat prices these days?

Not trying to sound cheap or anything here but I’m getting blown away by some of these hat prices I’m seeing lately.

I’ve been looking at hats and feeling overwhelmed about the price of some of them for years and years now and have absolutely come to the conclusion I’ll never be able to financially afford a custom hat. That’s when I was seeing max $700 for some of the hats I liked.

Here lately I’ve been watching some of the circus shows they’re putting on to make hats and they’re charging $1200. Like, “other than smacking some knives on the hibachi you didn’t do much to that shrimp you landed on aunt Ethel’s Sunday dress…” Literally bent the brim and indented the crown, put a piece of worn out burlap on as a hat band and set that fucker on fire. That’ll be $1350.

I get the videos are edited, but it literally less than a 5min video most times and these hats are only 1 off because they don’t burn the same. Otherwise, they’ve made 15 of them in the last week. Yes I understand there’s different materials and whatnot but for a basic felt hat? Like, I felt rich dropping $120 on my straw pork pie. Starting at $500 and having nothing less in your shop is insane to me.

Where can I buy affordable yet trendy hats online?

I visited a fashion store to buy a hat for daily style two days ago. I wanted something trendy and affordable. But when I checked the hats I felt disappointed. Some looked stylish but expensive. Some were cheap but poor quality. I could not trust them. I could not decide confidently.

Then I visited another shop in the same market. Some hats looked better but there were no discounts. Some were affordable but not trendy. Some seemed perfect at first but stitching was weak. I remembered I bought a hat last year that lost shape quickly. That made me hesitate even more.

To check more variety and options while scrolling many online marketplaces including alibaba I found many hats. Some looked trendy and affordable. Some were simple and low price. Some had better design and durability. There were many options available. This made me excited but also confused again.

Now I am thinking should I buy hats online for better trends or trust local stores for quality? What would you do in my place?

If a straw hat is 1 cm smaller than my hat size, is it safe to buy it?

There's a hat in an online store i have my eye on, it's fairly expensive but i love it. There's only size, "free size", and as the title says, it's 1 cm smaller than my size.

Could it be stretched with wear at that size?

Anyone have tips to prevent sun fading on hats?

I have black and navy hats and being out under the sun playing golf starts to fade their colors. I googled it and the product “Hat Saver” came up, with Google AI saying it protects from sun damage, but neither their website or their Amazon page say that. I’m curious if anyone has used that product or anything else to protect their hats from discoloration.

And don’t say wear white because I have white hats too. Gotta keep the fits fresh and sometimes you need a different hat for that haha

Melin hats are uncomfortable?

I got my first Melin hat as a gift and was exited because I wanted one for a long time. To my disappointment I kind find this hat comfortable at all. The hat itself feels like high quality materials but it's HEAVY. You can feel this cap weighing on you after a few minutes. The sizing on the cap feels off as well, no matter how I adjust the snap it feels either too loose or too tight. For reference the Melin hat is a small Odyssea Hydro while my typical hat size is 7 1/2.

One last complaint, that hat itself is very breathable, EXCEPT for the front of the cap. The front area with the logo I find to get really hot when out in warm weather which kinda defeats the purpose of wearing a hat at the beach.

Has anyone else suffered these same issues or am an outlier? Since it's been less than a week imma try to tuff it out before deciding a return but if anyone has any tips I'd love to hear it.

Ethan Embry’s hat

Ran across a video of Ethan Embry and instantly fell in love with his hat. Does anyone know this particular style? Even better if you know where I could find it! Thanks so much!
