How do you actually get more local leads from SEO?

I see many local businesses focus only on ranking, but ranking alone doesn't always bring leads.

For me, local SEO should connect 3 things:

  1. People can find you
  2. People trust you
  3. People know what action to take next

A business can show up on Google, but still lose leads if the page is weak, the reviews look bad, or the call button/contact form is not clear.

For local leads, I think the basics still matter a lot:

  • Google Business Profile is complete
  • service pages are clear
  • location pages are not thin copy
  • reviews are recent
  • phone number and CTA are easy to see
  • photos look real
  • internal links connect service pages properly
  • content answers actual customer questions

I also think many businesses create too much blog content before fixing their main service pages. If the service page does not explain the offer, location, proof, and next step, more blog traffic may not help much.

Curious how others here approach this.

When you work on local SEO, what usually brings more leads first?

Better Google Business Profile work, better service pages, more reviews, local backlinks, or something else?

Review Bombing the wrong business

Happy Monday -_-

Is there anyone on here that has a contact or that works for Google that can help me? Within the last week there was an event that garnered National news attention. I heard about it, and was disgusted myself. Turns out, the person inolved owns a business in the same town as our location and our small business that has been around for decades has been caught in the crosshairs with some people mistaking our business with theirs. It is not. We have zero affiliation, knowledge, or have done any business with the parties involved.

Unfortunately, we've been getting tons of 1 star reviews the last few days because of it. It's getting out of hand and is obviously detrimental to our business. A quick search would tell people who the correct business to air their frusturations at is, but alas.

Google didn’t just update review guidelines. It changed how reviews are evaluated.

Most businesses still think reviews are counted.

They’re not.

They’re filtered.

They’re evaluated.

They’re either trusted… or ignored.

That’s a completely different system.

It’s no longer about: getting more reviews.

It’s about: whether your reviews can actually be trusted.

And that shift is going to catch a lot of businesses off guard.

I broke down what changed — and what it means going forward.

My Google Business Profile for my cleaning company just got suspended after a nightmare situation and I’m trying to figure out how to get an actual manual review from Google.

We own a legitimate family-run cleaning business called Spotlessly Clean House Cleaning & Janitorial Services serving East Alabama and West Georg

Over the past several weeks, our business was targeted with suspicious and fraudulent reviews that we believed did not come from legitimate customers. In an effort to address the issue, we hired a third-party company that represented themselves as experienced with Google Business Profile support and review issues.

Unfortunately, after being granted access to our profile, unauthorized and inaccurate changes were made to our business listing without our approval, including:

• Changing our business name
• Changing our business category/type
• Converting our service-area business settings
• Associating a foreign address with our profile that was not connected to our business operations

These changes triggered a reverification request from Google, which we completed immediately.

Shortly afterward, our profile was suspended.

During the initial appeal process, we mistakenly submitted the appeal from a mobile device and were unable to upload our supporting business documentation at that time. We later submitted a second appeal with full supporting documentation attached, including:

• LLC registration documents
• Certificate of insurance
• Customer invoices and operating records
• Additional verification materials confirming our legitimate business operations

We have since:
• Removed all third-party access
• Reverted unauthorized changes
• Secured our account
• Submitted corrected business information directly to Google

We are now requesting a manual review of our account so a real person can review the documentation and restore our profile.

Spotlessly Clean House Cleaning & Janitorial Services remains fully operational and continues serving customers throughout East Alabama and West Georgia.

We appreciate everyone who has continued supporting our family-owned business during this situation.

My Google business profile has been suspended and I can’t use the appeals tool.

I have a tree service business in Oregon that I started last July. I’m licensed bonded and insured and have a current CCB license. Recently I noticed that my business isn’t showing up on Google searches, which is a major issue because I generate a lot of business on local Google searches and have worked hard at getting almost all of my customers to leave reviews. When going through the appeals process I get to the page where it says to elect an eligible decision to appeal and there’s no option for me to select anything or continue so I simply can’t appeal anything and my business remains hidden on Google and all of my customer 5 star reviews are gone. Anyone have any ideas?

Hidden address for service area business question

I need to pass a video verification for adding a hidden address as a service area business.

Should this address be the one where the business is registered?

What if I use my own home address/one of other offices that isn't listed in the business registration info?

Or is it best to change the business address in documents, to make sure I won't get suspended in case google asks for additional documents to verify this address

My Google business profile is disabled without prior notice or any reason!!

So I just received email on my registered business profile that my Google business profile has been disabled.

No reason given, nothing.

I had this profile for the past 7-8 years and suddenly it it removed?

There was an option to appeal. I have appealed to it. But I don't know when this will be resolved. I don't know whom to even communicate for this.

I have tried google fake reviews removals also. But even that has never worked out.

Google doesn't take anything seriously.

Has anyone experienced the same? Can someone please suggest me what I can do?

I am a freelance interior designer working from home. So there's no registered business number or any license for it. But that has never been an issue before.

Pls help.

I’ve tried to remove my suspension multiple times and they denied it both times. I’m apparently in violation of having deceptive content. Originally for the area(s) of where my business operated out of I put multiple so I went and removed all except one. And now that I went to submit an appeal it was denied again!! I need as much help as I can get to have my business profile back online to the public. Please and thank you! If you need any other info please don’t hesitate to ask.

I have a Google business profile that is ten years old and has a ton of reviews. My ex hacked my business Google email. I’ve tried recovering it but Google says it doesn’t need recovering because I’m already logged in (I’m not, it’s him, I’m a completely different state). With the hack, he also locked me out of my Google voice number which I’ve used for every customer for ten years. My problem is this: I need to log in to my Google business profile to update the phone number. I don’t know how to claim ownership when Google thinks I am the one who is signed in.

I have filed complaints with the FBI and attorney general without response. Does anyone have any recommendations on how to get Google to help?

So as the title states google ai is now saying my business closed in 2017 in the overview portion. My business was almost sold and being in the community for 40 years it was a popular topic and many online articles were written about it and I think this is where the ai is getting confused.

I'm receiving several calls about people asking if we are really closed and even having people drive by saying they thought we closed because "our website" (Google) says we were closed.

How do I remove this? I don't see an option on my profile.

Hi there guys,

So I’ve recently made the move from the UK to Australia.

I have a business that I’m fully insured for over here and fully licensed to work. I’d really like to know if I can move my profile and my reviews and feedback to the new location in Australia.

Or would I have to start a new profile from scratch. The thing is, I have quite a lot of great feedback from my business back home. It would be great if I would be able to just switch it to a new location as I could really hit the ground running.

Does anyone or has anyone has any experience with this? Is there a way to basically switch your location and keep your profile the same?

TIA :)))

Howdy, I’m Marcel, one of the nerds behind a social media / local business API product.

Small disclosure: this is kinda a plug as I build it. Sooooooo

I recently added fuller Google Business Profile support into our dashboard and API. The idea is to make GBP easier to manage alongside other channels instead of treating it like a separate, weird little island.

Right now the focus is on things like:

  • reviews
  • business hours, including special hours etc....
  • menus
  • categories
  • attributes
  • services
  • media

The reason we built it is pretty simple if you manage more than one location and have changing hours, seasonal services, it's kinda pain in the a** to run + you get the rest of social media scheduler/API included.

Even if you are not interested in testing it out, what did I miss that seems obvious?

I recently changed law firms. When I search my name on Google, the old firm is still showing as the Google Business. My new firm is the top search result, but the Google business listing is on top. How can I make sure the correct firm shows on my name search?

Hello,

I am looking for some help in creating a Google Business profile for a small business i have. It's not a Ltd. Company and i'm not set up as a sole trader yet, as things are all brand new.

I set this up for a friend a while ago and they were a sole trader, but the process was a nightmare but i get why it is this way. For that one we had to prove the business was legit and provide things like headed paper, confirm we serviced customers but not with a fixed address (it was a small construction type business) and they also asked for a video to verify along with verification that signage was on things like vans and any employees had branded workwear and so on.

Is this just how it is and i just need to gather all of the assets, etc.? Or am i better waiting until i get registered as a sole trader or Ltd. company?

Thanks!

Hey everyone,

I’m running into a really frustrating issue with a Google Business Profile and I’m hoping someone here has dealt with this before.

Here’s what’s happening:

  • The GBP is currently disabled.
  • When I try to submit an appeal, it takes me to the appeals dashboard, but it says: “No content to appeal in this tool.” So basically… I can’t submit anything at all.
  • There’s also a “Get Verified” button in the dashboard, but when I click it, it just redirects me back to the appeal page… which again doesn’t work. So I’m stuck in a loop.
  • What’s even more confusing: The profile is still publicly visible on Google Search, but it’s showing outdated info.
  • Meanwhile, inside the dashboard it says things like: “Your access has been disabled because this profile doesn’t follow the guidelines” and “Your business is not visible to customers.”

So it’s somehow:

  • Visible publicly (with wrong info)
  • But also “not visible” and disabled in the backend

What I’ve already done:

  • Reviewed and updated all business info to match the correct website and details
  • Tried accessing the appeal and verification flows multiple times
  • Confirmed I still have manager access to the profile

Still completely stuck because there’s literally no way to submit an appeal.

Extra info:

  • I only have manager access, not primary owner (not sure if that’s part of the issue?)

Has anyone experienced:

  1. The “No content to appeal” bug?
  2. The “Get Verified” → appeal loop?
  3. A profile being publicly visible but marked as not visible in the dashboard?

Any ideas on how to fix this or get Google to actually review it?
