Tried two new fruits over the past week.

I occasionally get jackfruit as a treat from this Korean store, but found Mamey sapote there two days ago. Also found kumquats at a local grocery store!

Mamey: it’s definitely sweet. But my palate could not quite reconcile the taste and texture. I would describe the taste as a sweetened avocado? Like a mix of ripe papaya and avocado? Anyway, I’m glad I tried it, but I don’t think I’d seek it out in the future.

Kumquat: this was pretty interesting. I knew to expect a sweet rind, but no one ever said anything about the actual juice/pulp. It’s an interesting marriage between the super tangy juice and the super sweet rind. Definitely a complex taste combo and I love it. I love sweet tangy stuff so this is very much in line with that. Will totally purchase many many more in the future.

Jackfruit: the GOAT as usual. Just delicious.

They're my favorite fruit, and a lot of people say they dont taste like cotton candy but im guessing they just haven't had good ones😅

Posting a photo of every fruit till I manage to find a job , day 1. The almond-leaved pear.

It's bitter and astringent but edible. Mostly used to make jams. In Northern Greece many people use to forage it and preserve them in hard liquor that gives them a unique taste. The name we use in Greece in " Grotsia ".

One of the fruits known as " African Pear " Manilkara obovata is mostly known for it's medicinal effects as a laxative.

Native to countries of Africa like Siera Leone and Zambia it also produces fruits. The small yellow fruis ( immature pictures only found unfortunately ) are said to have a sweet taste , combination of a pear and a brown sugar.

Love these!

I don’t know how these are called in English, but we call them mousmoula (μούσμουλα) in Greek!

My aunt picked up a bag for me from a tree in her yard!

What’s up with my mango?

The white-ish center is hard as a rock, but when I picked it up, it was fully squishy and was pretty ripe. I can’t even forcefully stab a knife through it.
