Four dupes just ruined my day

Two of my favorite fragrances are Baccarat Rouge 540, and Angels Share. I purchased the EDP of BR540 for $277 2 months ago, and a week ago, I bought the $400 extrait. With Angels' Share, I got a $200 50ml bottle a month ago, and a 100ml bottle for $300. I'm not bragging, there's a point to this. Importantly, I order hundreds of decants, and out of curiosity, I bought some samples of some dupes - mostly because I wanted cheap alternatives to wear to bed, and also to see why people rave about dupes. Out of everything I tried, Royal Blend by French Avenue, and Shobi's Angels' Share dupe both got VERY close to AS, Shobi's dupe being almost 90% similar upon dry down. When I tried Le Bon Bon Intense/Le Bon Bon by Montagne, my mood got even worse: they smelled almost identical to the fragrance I just payed $400 for. All these dupes have some differences to the OGs, especially in the openings, but who cares? The Montagen dupes and Royal Blend are noticeably weaker, but for $360/$160 less, that's a non-factor. I'm genuinely upset; I just pretty much wasted 100s. I'm gonna buy one of the Le Bon Bons, and the Shobi Angels' Share dupe, both to wear to bed and maybe to work, and save the real things as much as I can (I don't sell bottles).

* Disclaimer: This fragrance is still brand new and it needs time to mature *

Title says it all. Imagination has got to be the most battled clone there is on this sub. The battles have been well overdone at this point. I'm not going to focus on what is better here or not. So far the consensus to me is a equal tie between Hectic, Marwa, and Kobra. So those are the ones I'm going to focus on the most. Each being a little different. From what I gather Aqua Dubai is the longest lasting, followed by Hawas Kobra, but it's also the soapiest and most synthetic of the bunch. Still a great fragrance nonetheless.

What I have:

  • GoS Full House
  • Marwa
  • Hectic
  • Mazaaj Infused
  • Essence De Blanc
  • Amber Oud Aqua Dubai
  • Hawas Kobra
  • Decant of Imagination OG
  • Decant of Montagne Imaginary

And now we have Jean Lowe Fantasme.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm not going to BS here, I sprayed all 6 on papers right now, Fantasme, Montagne Imaginary, Hawas Kobra, Marwa, OG Imagination, and Bujairami Hectic.

I'm having a hard time picking up the differences, possible nose fatigue. But they really are so similar... It appears to me that Marwa, and Hectic lean a tad more soapy then the OG. I'll do my best.

Montagne and Kobra seem to lean more on the tea notes.

Fantasme feels like it's right in the middle.

Guys before I continue, I just want to make sure I say this. There is NO REASON to spend money on the OG imagination. I thank them for paving the way to this amazing DNA, but these fragrances smell so identical my friends can't even pick out the OG!!

In a blind test, one of my friends picked Kobra as his favorite while the other friend picked Fantasme of the 6.

Blind tested, I ended up choosing two because I could not pick between them. They were Kobra and Hectic.

Kobra is great, but it does feel like there is some chemical in there making it so strong. I could be wrong.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My review of Jean Lowe Fantasme:

I've worn Fantasme 3 or 4 times already. The fragrance is fire. Everyone who smelled it on me at work thought it was amazing. I've let this fragrance mature now for almost three weeks, so it still needs a lot more time to get a accurate review. I really like this version of it, it's very smooth and a perfect balance of the tea and soapy qualities of Imagination. It does not lean synthetic and feels very natural compared to some of the others.

Like some other Maison Alhambras, the performance was a little lackluster. I'm trying not to pay too much attention to this since this fragrance still needs time to mature. Only time will tell, but for now I'll have to add that into my rating. It projected for a little less then 2 hours. The longevity was about 8 hours skin scent. But it lasts longer on clothes. Really sticks well.

Might be one of my favorite versions of the scent itself.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My rating:

Scent quality 8.9/10
Performance 7/10

Overall 8/10

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Conclusion:

It feels great owning Jean Lowe Fantasme as a replacement for Imagination. Bottle looks really nice and the scent is A1. It really comes down to what your looking for and what you find around you at the best price. This one feels more natural then some of the others, but it also has less performance. With maturation this will probably improve, but I have a feeling it will be slightly only.

Try out the different Imagination clones first and see what you're favorite is. The best dupe for this fragrance is super controversial and of course I recommend looking for the one that suits you best. I wasn't able to do full wear's of each for all of these different fragrances, so upon wearing it, you might be easier able to make a decision between all of them if you're serious about finding a replacement for Imagination.

BONUS:

Next day update. I'm taking my pictures this morning as I always do for my post, and I'm smelling all the strips I used again. So Marwa, Montagne, Hectic pretty much all smell like nothing on paper at this point.

Jean Lower Fantasme, The OG Imagination, and Hawas Kobra however are still slightly kicking. Very surprising results from the OG and Fantasme.

I purchased Club De Nuit EDT after all reading all the hype here. Within an hour, Two people said I smell like a toilet cleaner, one was specific about it being lemon toilet cleaner! Later after 3 hours those who smelled appreciated it calling it B+ tier perfume beneath suvage etc.

Now I am really confused if I shall ever reuse it ...I also don't know how to masterbate the Perfume. Help. Also I have never smelled creed Aventus, but if this is how it smells, I wonder why they would charge £400 for it.

Note: People did say it smells better than Diesel etc and actually good when it dries down but ranked it lower than Suvage

Took me like 3 days to write Part 1 of this. I'm gonna try and zip through this one in 10hrs while I'm at work. Wayyyy off topic but I'm wearing Lattafa Paris right now. This shit is 🔥🔥🔥.

⚠️I didn't come close to finishing😅. Some of this was wrote on 5/2, the rest on 5/4.⚠️

Maturation Process -

First things first, I've received a couple of DM's asking about my maturation process that I keep mentioning. Everyone has their own, here's mine. Long story less long, I get my new fragrance(s) in and I spray 30+ sprays in a 5ml decant bottle (that normally fills it up). I then put the fragrance back in the box and tuck the box away in my kitchen cupboard where it's cool and dark (2nd pic). I leave it there for at least 2 months. During those 2 months, I may use the fragrance every now and then to see how it's coming along. Using it won't hurt it.

But, that's pretty much it. That's my 2 month maturation process in a nutshell. Some fragrances change dramatically and for the better, some change minimally, and some don't change much at all. This isn't some magic trick, it's just something I do to get the best performance out of my fragrances.

Onto these reviews.

1. Afnan 9PM Night Out -

So, I don't have anything bad to say about Night Out. I'll just say this, I'm 40 y/o and I don't think I was the intended audience for this fragrance. I feel that's important to note. I wore it one time and got a couple compliments from co-workers. It's a good smelling fragrance that is well received, it's just a youthful smelling fragrance, that's all. Lasts for like 10+ hours on clothes, projects well for the first couple hours. I don't know any of the notes I'm picking up on, I just know it's fruity. I actually like it, but I won't be wearing it. It doesn't necessarily fit my profile. If you're 30 or younger, I definitely recommend it to you. Again, there's nothing wrong with it, it's just not for me.

2. Rasasi Hawas London -

For those that may not know, I'm a big time Hawas guy. I have every single Hawas that has released to the public thus far, and I'll be buying every one that releases moving forward. Hawas was my favorite line, but shit got shakey with the last 3 releases. I wore Atlantis once during maturation and I'll never wear it again. Viper was so trash to me that I refuse to even let it touch my body. I'll NEVER wear that. Then came London. When I first sprayed it on a tester strip, shit was the most feminine "men's" fragrance I ever smelled in my life😤. It didn't smell bad, it just smelled like a woman's perfume. I was so turned off by it that I never wore it during the maturation period. I was actually gonna write this review and just shit all over it. However, I decided I'd actually wear it to work after I took this picture last week. Long story short, turns out that it's not that bad...not that bad at all. First things first, longevity is good. I could still easily smell it on my clothes at the end of a 12hr shift. It's not beast mode and didn't project like normal Hawas' do, but it was decent. I'd catch whiffs of it throughout my shift. Secondly, of all of the HEAT I consistently wear into work, one of my co-workers FINALLY decides to compliment me while I'm wearing this😑. Hawas fucking London is the fragrance where he finally had to step to me and ask me what was I wearing😒. Absolute nonsense😅. Anyway, that ultra feminine note I'm smelling has to be the rose. However, it didn't smell so feminine while I was wearing it. The fragrance became more masculine once I actually sprayed it on my body. I can't explain it, but it smelled like I was wearing some rich, mature niche scent. I could see myself wearing this out on date night when I'm dressed up, and that's about the only time I'd wear it. Other than that occasion, I don't know when this would get pulled out. And honestly, I have plenty of other fragrances for that occasion. I don't see me scanning my collection and settling on Hawas London for a date night. In closing, I do NOT recommend this as a blind buy. But if you do come across it and you like the DNA, I can confidently say that the performance is solid. It's a bit more subtle than other Hawas fragrances, but it's there. And no matter how much good I said about it in this review, it's still the 3rd WORST Hawas that has released thus far.

3. French Avenue Vulcan Black -

This is a clone of Xerjoff's Tony lommi Deified.

I DO NOT LIKE TONY IOMMI DEIFIED!!!!

I want to put that out there first. I smelled it last year, then I ended up getting a sample and yea, I don't like this DNA at all. I actually only got this fragrance because I like the bottle, and I only paid $27 for it from Burlington. With that being said, Vulcan Black is pretty spot on to Tony lommi Deified. Performance is really, really good. I wore it to work one day and it lasted every bit of 10+ hours. Solid projection as well. It's strong as hell and left a crazy scent trail. It's not a safe blind buy AT ALL. If you like the real thing then get this. I don't like Deified or Vulcan Black, so that's it for this review lol.

4. Lattafa Eternal Vanille -

Here's where the fun starts. Right off the bat, this fragrance is a 10/10 FOR ME. Longevity, 12+ hours. Projection, strong for at least the first 3 hours or so. There isn't a moment that goes by while wearing this where I can't just focus, hone in on it and catch a whiff. In other words, it's always present. TO ME, it smells like By The Fireplace. Not really close to it, just in the family of it. I'm not gonna get into all of the notes because I really don't know which ones I'm smelling. My nose isn't mature enough to distinguish akigalawood from benzoin from cedarwood. I just know all of this shit is blended together into something beautiful. I have nothing bad to say about this and I'm really looking forward to wearing this more next winter.

5. Lattafa Musamam Black Intense -

I have a love/hate relationship with Lattafa. Normally I hate them, but then they will put out some absolute heat rockers that makes me take back all of my negative shit. Eternal Vanille was one, Musamam Black is #2. This shit right here is incredible, plain and simple. During the maturation period, it got so strong for me. I wore it last week and I could still smell it on my clothes days later. Either the nutmeg or that cocoa pulse note is what I'm smelling the most, and it's become so creamy, smooth and chocolatey. This is such a strong, sexy, masculine fragrance. And it's so unique. When I first sprayed it, it reminded me of ASAD Elixir. That is no more. This is definitely doing it's own thing. This dethroned Teriaq Intense as my favorite Lattafa. It is not blind buy safe simply because it's so different. I rate it very high, but I can see how others might not like it.

6. Rayhaan Jungle Vibe -

I bought this simply because it was cheap. I never actually "wanted" it. Honestly, I don't think I'm a green fragrance guy. Some are cool, but they're not my go to. Anyway, this turned out to be really good, and even better after maturation. I wore this one day last week as well. Longevity was about 7hrs or so. I think I went nose blind because I couldn't really smell it anymore, but one of my co-workers could. It smells like fruit and outdoors, like citrus and plants. Definitely a spring/summer fragrance. Honestly, I still can't give a final take on this because I have yet to wear it in the right setting. It's still cold here in Cleveland so I'm not wearing this how it was intended to be worn. Luckily I'm an outside guy so I will 100% be pulling this out at some point this summer. I like to go on hikes and nature walks and shit, so this will be my fragrance of choice.

That's it for now. I've got a few coming out of maturation in a few weeks that I'll review. I also got an order coming in of 3 Royal Blend fragrances that should've been here last week but are delayed. Hopefully I can get my hands on the 3 new Hawas' this week...

Comparaison #2 : L’immensité VS Jean Lowe Immortel

As some of you asked a review of l’immensité (following Imagination), I figured out I could give my opinion on these 2.

This bottle of immortel has been used and macerating for about 9 months, so it should reflect the final product.

L’immensité :

Very manly fragrance, with very good projection. Subtle mix of ginger and citrus.

Jean Lowe Immortel :

After few months of wearing it from time to time, it definitely shares the same DNA. It is more ginger heavy (it overpowers a bit the rest IMO), as the citrus and aquatic notes are left behind. The magic of l’Immensité is that it’s a strong fragrance, but perfectly balanced and not overwhelming. Immortel doesn’t have quite that perfect balance. Can’t say much more, because after sampling them back and forth side by side I am nose blind lol.

Overall, its a good perfume on its own, but not a very good dupe of l’Immensité. It does share the same DNA, but it’s more a twisted and raw version of LV.

Should you buy it ?

It does smell more expensive that it is if that makes sense. I know that sampling these ME fragrances can be tough, so if you already sampled l’immensité and loved it, there’s a good chance you’ll like this one too. It is still way less complex and mixed than l’immensité, so keep that in mind.

I also pictured some of the dupe / OG perfume I have, if you’d like to see more let me know.

u/michalatd — 7 days ago

These are both what to be said as some of the best alternatives to LV Imagination (apart from Hectic but that's unavailable in most countries) so I got both of them and put them to the test side by side.

Arabiyat Prestige Marwa

This is a much more spicy version of Imagination, the opening caught me off guard from how much more gingery that opening is, but once it dries down it smells super simelar to the opening of imagination. It's a really easy reach and does the luxury soap and ginger smell really well.

After 1-2 months of macerating this still doesn't perform that well as it has maybe 3-5 hours of moderately weak projection, but we'll see if this gets better as it matures.

Smell: 9/10
Closeness: 85%
Performance: 5/10
Overall: 8/10

Hawas Kobra

This is more of a twist in that it doesn't smell as similar to Imagination, but still is a soapy tea scent with a lot more added musk. The musk makes it smell a little bit more salty, but it still smells clean nonetheless. This performs like crazy and I could use this everyday. People say they can't smell the tea but I think it's pretty prominent in the first 2-4 hours (good thing).

Smell 8/10
Closeness 60%
Performance 9.5/10
Overall 8/10

Final thoughts

They're both soso dupes of Imagination that scratch that itch for a lot cheaper. If you want performance and to wear it everyday and don't mind musk get Kobra but if you want a closer dupe for it to perform worse then get Marwa.

A quick review -Had this on my wish list for quite some time now and recently procured it . First impressions ,wow !. This is an un deniably rose heavy fragrance and you are going to notice it. Definitely a night time, winter fragrance .you get a floral notes along with it . Most reviewers claim that the oud note is minimal but I do get it . The best way to describe the oud note in this is it form a backbone or a base layer behind the rose note . Only thing is the rose is kind of overpowering. Definitely unisex. Need to test it on the long run . For if u like floral , rose notes with a dark woodsy finish you can consider. Try decants though.

4 Blind Buys Review // 3 hits and a miss

1- French Avenue’s Aether: PDM Greenley clone that is under $40! Opening is fresh w/ green apple/aquatic notes then dries down into a nice light musk. It’s my current most used daily scent. Also the bottle design is just so cool lol Would repurchase!

2-MontBlanc Individuel: inspired Creed Santal . Probably my favorite of the bunch, but i am a huge fan of this Santal DNA. Herbal/ Fruity opening but dries down with a floral creaminess that is super addicting. I keep finding myself reach for it lol. For under $30, is a mandatory purchase and will be a mainstay for me lol my favorite new cheapie !

3- French Avenue’s Royal Blend Sequoia: Kilian Angel’s Share Paradis clone. Sweet and boozy opening that dries down into a rosey sandalwood musk. The strong consistent raspberry note in this one though is what really makes the difference for me and nudges it into repurchase territory lol It reminds me of the SWY line but with less amber/caramel candy type notes and more cognac.

4- Lataffa’s Qaed al Fursan: Smells like SpongeBobs basement lol just an absolute Pineapple BOMB. Definitely my least favorite of the bunch. I think i would like if it had lil more depth or complexity but the pineapple is just way overwhelming to me. Would not repurchase.

I have decants coming in soon of some really popular scents that I will finally get to whiff😤 so i think i’ll review them as well. lmk what others i should try!

I was so wrong about this fragrance (Arabiyat Prestige Marwa)

So recently I got a couple of fragrance decants just so I could see what they smell like, one of which was Arabiyat Prestige Marwa (Clone of LV Imagination)

First Impressions: I hated it instantly, I made a post reviewing all the decants and I mentioned the opening to this smelled like someone "vomitted in a forest" And I still kind of get that vibe but now even the opening has grown on me. It smells more like a herbal medicine which isn't particularly my thing usually but I am really enjoying it in this fragrance

Dry Down: Now this is just beautiful, It turns into this really fresh uplifting green scent which smells absolutely heavenly and ethereal. It is so pleasant and so uplifting, and at the same time it is very unique compared to most of the citrus freshies and sweet fruity fragrances I keep smelling. There is a salty bitterness to this fragrance that just makes it stand out and still so pleasant to smell.

I did not do this fragrance justice at all when I first reviewed this, now after giving it a fair shot I love this thing.

u/_chewsday — 6 days ago

I loved it!! it is much fresher and therefore bearable than BDC LE. It is NOT a fresh fragrance for the heat, but if I see it very versatile, more for work, casual weekend with the family. I definitely loved it. It took a long time to get to Chile.

u/TomsAlf7 — 9 days ago

So this has been done 100 times but I’ve been doing some research in the past week and I think for the price point it boils down to one of the three, Marwa vs Kobra vs Aqua Dubai

Ok so in terms of scent, the general consensus is Marwa>Aqua Dubai>Kobra

But in terms of performance the consensus is Kobra>Aqua Dubai>Marwa

If I’m honest with you, the only reason I even care about performance most of the time is because I want people to smell me and compliments, but if it smells bad, I don’t want people noticing me for the wrong reasons.

So that’s why I’m stuck, is Marwa so much better than the other 2 that compliments are easier to get despite performance issues? Or are the other 2 so much better performance wise that compliments come through that aspect instead?

Which out of the three would you guys pick? (Forget about price, just go for most likely to be complimented)

Finally purchased a discovery Set

Took people’s advice from here and started buying discovery sets/samples of fragrances I’m interested in instead of blind buying full 100ml bottles and instantly regretting it later.

I took these out and set them from best to worst based on my personal liking. Honestly, this little Lattafa Pride set surprised me way more than I expected. Also, I compared all of these to the original DNA since I either own the OG or have samples.

  1. Ishq Al Shuyukh Silver
This is the standout for me. It’s DAMN near Rabanne 1 Million Lucky to my nose, it’s like 95–97% close in the air. Same sweet fresh addictive DNA, just slightly fresher and brighter. Honestly one of the closest clone fragrances I’ve smelled, period.

  2. Vintage Radio
Really, really like this one. Definitely deserves the hype. It’s commonly compared to Initio Parfums Privés Paragon and I’d personally put it around 85% similar depending on what stage of the fragrance you’re in. Vintage Radio is sweeter, louder, and a little more playful while Paragon smells smoother and more refined. Still an amazing interpretation of the DNA.

  3. Collection d’antiquités 1910
This is VERY clearly inspired by Rabanne 1 Million Elixir. I’d say around 85% close overall. Smells super good in the opening and definitely captures that sweet fruity vanilla vibe, but the longevity on my skin was honestly kind of disappointing compared to the original. The OG is much stronger, denser, and projects more.

  4. Shaheen Silver
People compare this to Creed Aventus and I can definitely see the inspiration, but this one feels more like it’s “in the style of” Aventus instead of really cloning it. Decent fresh fruity-smoky vibe, but it’s missing some of the richness and smoothness that makes Aventus special.

Overall though, for the price of this discovery set, it was honestly a great buy because it helped me figure out what I actually want full bottles of and what I don’t.

The biggest thing I noticed with Lattafa is they’re not always trying to make exact photocopy clones. A lot of these feel like they take the DNA of a popular niche/designer fragrance and then add their own sweeter, louder, Middle Eastern twist to it.

Decants from Decantified - 37 decants reviews and clone battles- Part 6: Jean Lowe Fantasme vs "The others"

Alternative header: I'm pissed off today!

Decanter review: The decants were PERFECTLY packaged. 0 leaking bottles and all labels intact and clear. 10/10 this time!

A review of the other clones vs the OG is here.

I'll make it short, because I was already tired from all the Imagination clones a while ago, and now I'm at the point of being ANGRY. Overanalyzing the difference between the top 4 ones is so stupid, because let's say the OG (and I have a decant of it right here) is a 350 thread count bed sheet, and costs $300. The top 4-10 clones are 310-330 thread count sheets, and cost $25-$40. So do we really need to go crazy and analyze their tiny differences of maybe 20 thread counts??? They all save you $250 or more, and they all (the top 4, plus probably 10 more that I haven't tried) will get you about 90% close to the OG in the air (and 99% to people around you, who have no idea what the OG smells like next to a clone).

If you say otherwise, I'm here offering a $5000 bet. By the way, I'm in Quebec, and here, a personal bet contract is legal, as long as it's based on skill, which some say they possess. The bet is this:

*Everything I'll do in preparation will be recorded, all the way until it reaches your nose, so you'll see nothing shady took place.

  1. I will spray a fragrances in a different room (so scents won't mix in the air and distract you), wait 5 minutes for the initial dry-down, come back to the room, and ask you "is that an OG, or a clone?". You will not know which profile it is, or anything else. After all, you claim OGs are "magical" as "no clone gets even close", so prove it!

*You can choose if you want the test done on skin or on strips.

*You'll have no idea how many tests will be clones and how many OGs, I'm allowed to spray only OGs or only clones if I want to. I can also spray the same decant on multiple tests. That's so I could remove the guessing/placebo effect from the experiment. So there might be 1 OG out of 50 tests, or 49 of them, or anything in between.

  1. If you guessed correctly even just 75% of the tests, you won. If not, I won. So bring $5K cash with you, I'll have my cash ready on my end when you arrive.

Wait, I digress. What were we talking about? Oh, Fantasme, right. Well, I would place it slightly closer than Kobra, and maybe a little less than Hectic. But for crying out loud, please don't get it if you already have a different clone of Imagination! The differences are SO tiny. Maybe a hint less ginger and citrus. So all in, is it close to the OG? Very much so!

As for performance (which is the most important part when you have 4-20 great clones already for it), I thought it was trash, but turns out I just got desensitized (nose-blind), and my wife said it's stronger than Hectic. Quality is pretty damn nice. Higher than most of them. My wife also liked it slightly better than Hectic. So projecting 2 hours medium projection, then 2 hours medium scent bubble, and skin scent at hour 5.

But again, unless you have a twist, or Aqua Dubai, or Breezy, these miss quite a few notes completely, then whatever you have is accurate enough, and you should stick with that one.

Sorry, I said I'll make it short... I lied. I'm not great at making things short.

And the person running Decantified is such an amazing person... Always adds 1-3 "surprise" decants. But I have to say now, that unless they're substantial enough twists, I'm not going to review another imagination clone. I'm feeling like I'm test driving the same vehicle with just a slightly different tires brand installed every time. It gets boring/annoying very quickly. We need another Imagination clone even less than another Ultra Male clone!

Someone wants to take the bet?

Can you guys recommend me some fragrances for summer nights that project good.

Fragrances I regret buying:

- Lataffa Hayaati - My neck starts to itch and gets irritated the smell is okay tho not really my cup of tea.

- Odyssey Spectra - Already have Ramz Silver, didn't see that it's a dupe of JPG Ultra Male and also it smells weak.

- One Million Lucky - Just got this yesterday and the new formulation just doesn't last and doesn't project. Sprayed it on and I couldn't smell anything after 30mins.

- Lataffa Kingdom - Too sweet and it doesn't smell like JPG in my opinion.

u/drogirash0 — 9 days ago

I've tried three and let me tell you they're all absolute bonkers. Ranked from most favorite to least:

  1. Hawas FIre: Oh boy where do I start, absolutely unique and gorgeous scent profile, nothing similar to anything I've tried, smooth and lovely, its as if its flirting with you. And guess what, it projects like crazy. 10/10
  2. Hawas Elixir : Don't get me wrong, the OG is amazing, but the added minty chocolatey note is absolutely gorgeous. Plus it lowkey projects better. Hear me out, the initial spray feels a lil synthetic, but god damn when you smell it an hour later on your hoodie, it feels heavenly.
  3. Hawas Ice: Fresh clean, sweet. Works well for the summers, not rlly a fan of such DNAs, but on its own, its a great scent.

Thinking about buying Kobra next as a summer daily, heard good things about it, your thoughts?

Gave elixir to a friend for testing so no pic :(

I'm looking for some suggestions for my wife. She likes fruity type scents. Not ridiculously over sweet and not so much strong citrus, as in lemon or lime. Something with berries or peach etc etc.

Hi, currently looking for something to wear this summer because quite frankly I’m overwhelmed with the amount of choices.

Maybe someone has a similar preference as me and can give a recommendation.

This is a list of fragrances I currently own:

- Chanel Allure Edition Blanche: been my daily driver in spring and summer for the last two years. Love the smell of lemon tart but it doesn’t really last

- Diptyque Philosykos: really like the fig in this, it’s refreshing, green and I love it

- Versace Eau Fraiche: it’s alright but disappears after 10 minutes and I don’t plan on repurchasing it

- Al Haramain Detour noir: I love this and wear it in winter all the time

- YSL La Nuit de l'Homme: love this as well

The issue is that I mainly like winter fragrances and I have no idea what summer fragrances to get. The last time I went and smelled some summer fragrances most of them smelled similar to public toilets and I have no idea what note is causing that. And the ones that didn’t smell like that smelled pretty much the same to me.

What I don’t like:

- shower gel types
- I hate Dylan Blue, I had it and regretted blind buying it so much
- cloying and heavy fragrances
- aventus type, tried Supremacy Collector’s Edition and I didn’t like it
- tried Rare Reef, Turathi Electric but to me they smell like shower gels and that’s all

I was looking at some clones that seemed interesting:

- Platine Blanc Aromatix
- Marwa

Give me your recommendations for other fragrances. Thanks in advance!

Decanter review: The decants were PERFECTLY packaged. 0 leaking bottles and all labels intact and clear. 10/10 this time!

I never tried the OG, the profiles for these is not my favorite, but they are my favorite from the Y line. They're nice, but kind of boring. Shower gel aquatics, with some incense and a hint of sage for balance. I can also pick up geranium (not in the breakdown) and a tiny bit ambery sweetness. All have a woody base.

The differences: Pretty substantial differences between the 3. Ripple adds some black pepper (not in the note breakdown), it's more lavender-forward, and has a much higher dosage of incense and sage. Stratos is the most citrus-ginger forward, and Fakhar Platin is EXTREMELY different... Is much sweeter, by adding a really fun guava note, that "youthifies" the profile, and makes it more playful and fruity... And most of you already know that that's what I like best. So again, I like the heavy twist best. But unfortunately, that nice sweet Guava note is only there for 1-1.5 hours, and then it becomes much closer to Stratos, just lower quality.

Quality-wise, Fakhar is at the bottom, with good note separation and progression on skin, but the notes aren't realistic. I really don't mind that though. Ripple is first place in quality, but my least favorite scent. It's the most mature and the most spicy-incensy. French avenue is not very far from ripple, but more balanced.

My wife is really mad at me for Ripple. She hates it, but I had to let her smell it every hour to clock the longevity and projection from various distances. After the test was done, she said "next battle you have for this profile, please don't come near me with what you had on your left wrist (Ripple) again... I just can't stand it, and it makes me sneeze". She also likes Fakhar Platin the best (by a big margin), but mostly the opening.

As for performance. To me, Platin felt the strongest projecting, but that was just because of the synthetic composition of it, and it actually projected the same distance as the others. They were all pretty similar, but Ripple toned down the fastest.

Just a reminder: The subjective scent score is what you should care about the least. All the other info is more important for you to make a decision.

Subjective Scent Score: Platin 8.5 (opening 9.3, dry-down 8.0), Stratos 8.0, Ripple 6.9.

On skin (longevity): Platin 8-9 hours. Stratos 7-8 hours, and Ripple 6-7 hours.

Performance above skin: Platin 7.8. strong projection the first hour, then a large-medium scent bubble for another 2-3 hours. Skin scent at hour 5. Stratos strong one hour, then medium scent bubble for another 2-3 hours, and skin scent at hour 4-5. Ripple is the worst performing one. Medium-strong 1 hour, then medium-low bubble for 2 hours, skin scent at hour 3-4.

Blind buy safety score: Stratos 8.5, because it's the most balanced. Platin and Ripple 7.0, because one is very sweet and synthetic, and the other is mature and unique.

Unisex Score (0=fem, 5=unisex, 10=Male): Platin 6.0, Stratos 7.0. Ripple 7.5.

Versatility Score: They're all versatile for many seasons, but carry different versatility for occasions. Platin 7.0 (most playful). Stratos 8.8. Ripple 8.0.

Blend Quality Score: Ripple 7.8 (approaching designer quality), Stratos 7.3 (slightly above average clone quality), Platin 6.8 (slightly below average clone quality).

Value Score: Stratos 8.8 ($22 on FragranceNet, for above average quality and performance). Platin 8.0 ($24 on FragranceNet, with slightly better performance, but below average quality). Ripple 7.5 ($35 for great quality, but below average performance).

Should cost (considering quality and performance only): Platin $20-$25, Stratos $28-$33, Ripple $25-$30.

Bottle design: Stratos 6.5. Platin 7.5. Ripple 9.3.

Atomizer Score:N/A.

Conclusion: Want a very high quality mature profile and don't mind mid performance? Go with Ripple. Want a more versatile, good quality, and a super deal clone? Get Stratos. Don't mind lower quality, but like a youthful fruity-sweet twist with good performance? Get Platin. I won't get any of them, as I can't think of when I'll wear any one of them over what I already have in my collection. But I'm like this with pretty much any Y or MYSLF Release. If Fakhar kept the guava for the duration, it would be a 100% buy for me.

And as always, don't trust me, Get decants.

In your fragrance journey, what have you learned about your likes and dislikes that surprised you?

For me, it was florals.

I was first inclined not to like them based on preconceived notions. I thought florals would be headache-inducing. I thought of florals as feminine and even grandmotherly, though I did know that lavender was common in traditional fougeres. That being said, lavender was not a note I particularly enjoyed. Iris was pretty much the only floral I knew I liked because Prada L'Homme and Dior Homme Original were a couple of my favorite bottles in my limited collection.

Instead, what I found was that florals were my favorite group of notes. Wildcard was the one that truly opened my eyes. The florals made it refined and elegant while still retaining its masculinity. I then sought out several clones within the Lafayette Street and Reflection Man realm: Shiyaaka for Men (silver, red), Nitro Pour Homme (brown), Rave Royal Supreme the King, and Dunhill Desire for a Man (red).

Myslf clones and takes like Nitro Elixir showed me that I especially love orange blossom. I'm hoping to find a good Prada Paradigme clone because I love that scent. Orange blossom is not listed as a note, but I swear that's in there. I'm on the fence about picking up La Fede Intoxicate Mystique. I've also recently picked up Ahmed Al Maghribi's Saadaik, which also has orange blossom along with lily of the valley, jasmine, rose, and others. It is the most feminine of all my colognes, but I'm starting to appreciate that aspect.

What are your likes and dislikes that have surprised you?

Lol as if the packaging couldn't be any closer to the original.

But seriously, curious as to why this hasn't been covered by the mainstream YouTube channels or other social media outlets as of yet.....

What does it smell like, is it close to the original Born In Roma Intense, so on and so forth. Fun fact: apparently there's an Extrait version of Valentia too...
