June Hobby Guide: looking to fill some gaps...
I've gotten some great input from Bushwick redditors in the past, so please let me know if you have any hobby happenings (dj classes, mahjong workshops, pickleball clinics etc) coming up that I can include in next month's roundup!
I tend to only include experiences that will really help someone dive into a new hobby and gain enough skill/community to feel equipped to keep going, but you know of shorter experiences (less than 2 hours), I can still include those in the weekly emails.

Thanks in advance 😄
Sliding scale psychoanalyst?
Hi all, my partner is hoping to find a therapist in the area (or maybe one with a remote practice) that is currently accepting patients and has reasonably affordable or sliding scale rates. His idea is to pursue long-term treatment if the first few sessions go well. I’ve had a great experience with psychoanalysis on zoom for a few years now, which has made him want to look for this specific type of therapy.
We would appreciate any recommendations — thank you in advance!
“Loops” is a serialized walking audio mystery through Prospect Park that explores themes of loss, time, media, fame, and obsession. It is planned to be released in five parts over the next few years, and Parts 1 and 2 are now available.
To walk “Loops,” bring your phone, headphones, perhaps a portable battery, and maybe a flashlight. Simply put on your headphones, follow the instructions at www.loopsprospectpark.com, and play the tracks. It will take you about three hours, and is free to do with a suggested donation of $10.
Autobody Shop Recs?
Can anyone recommend a trusted autobody shop or mechanic in the area?
Brownstones
Sharing my newest woodblock print. I turned 40 and spent the next 6 weeks working on my most ambitious woodblock print. I just love the Brownstones around Fort Greene.
Late Night Reading in FG Park
Weather is gorgeous and I’m just personally thinking that it’s so nice to read outside in the park.
I’m also recognizing that it’s not fully safe alone at this time, even though the park is open till 1am.
What it we create a community reading time, when there is group presence and safety.
Again, I totally understand it’s not for everyone, but some people’s brain juts more active at night. And it’s this short time of the year when the weather is perfect.
Any thoughts?
The Everly Rooftop Pool Rule
I very recently moved into The Everly and found out that the building is only allowing residents to access the rooftop pool (they literally check on a piece of paper if you live there at the pool entrance).
This came as a huge disappointment to me as I really would’ve liked to bring guests. I’d get it if there was a guest limit like 1 person only, but this rule was never announced to anyone (or at least to me) until they sent out an email earlier this month when the pool was officially open - not during tours or when I signed my lease or when I asked questions about the rooftop/pool.
I feel like this was a bait and switch kinda move because one of the reasons why I really liked the building and moved here was so that I could bring my friend(s) and chill at the pool this summer. I’m not gonna swim by myself, that’s kinda boring. And for a $150 amenity fee every month, I feel like we should freely be able to use the amenities that we pay for.
Anyone else feel the same? Could we do anything to petition management about it?
Edit: if anyone else lives at The Everly and is frustrated with this policy too, please reach out to me! I’m planning on starting a petition and sending it to management
Anyone in hearing really loud noises tonight? Almost sounds like fireworks?
reddit.comLate night Farmer And The Deli Chaos
Has anyone noticed the uptick in chaos around Farmer and The Deli?
Most nights there are several incidents of cars double parking (leading to excessive honking) or people loitering outside of their vehicles with music at high volumes (windows and doors open, screaming conversations, excess bass).
The NYPD stands around until Walgreens closes but then disappears, and even then they seem more like witnesses than enforcement. 311 complaints go unresolved, or at least the problem persists.
Verbal altercations can be heard from buildings up and down the block to have people be quiet, turn down music, etc. I fear physical altercations are next.
I’m a fan of the Deli, but it is 100% their customers.
If the city won’t enforce the noise ordinance or some sort of enforcement, is there any alternative action that can be taken?
Also - this corner is a constant clog for the block with crosswalks blocked and cars double parked for the deli - peaking every day at lunch. Even the school crossing guard is impacted from doing their job. Where is any type of law enforcement doing more than just bearing witness.
I can’t be the only one concerned.
Dog missing after owner was struck
The dog’s name is Sunny. Her owner was just struck by a vehicle on St James and Lefferts, and the dog ran away in the melee.
Please DM me if you see the dog.
UPDATE: dog found!!! Thanks to all you kindhearted people who went out to look.
Move-out sale, everything must go! Almost new furniture
Hi! I am moving out of my apartment in Fort Greene near Atlantic Terminal because I am pregnant. I'm moving back in with parents so I am trying to get rid of essentially all of my furniture. They are all "like new" because I bought them in March, used them for only 2 weeks before I got the news and moved back in with parents.
Everything must go by Saturday, May 23rd!
Happy to answer any questions about the furniture.

Heads up if you live in a 10+ unit building in Brooklyn Heights, DUMBO, Fort Greene, Downtown BK, Boerum Hill, or Cobble Hill
DSNY just dropped a proposed rule that’s going to affect your building directly. They are expanding the mandatory on-street trash container pilot into our area (Brooklyn CD2).
Here is the timeline:
👉 Buildings with 31+ units: Mandatory city bins by Oct 15, 2026.
👉 Buildings with 10–30 units: You have to either opt into the city bins OR buy your own approved rigid containers.
👉 The opt-in window is July 1 to July 31. If you miss it, you're automatically in the program.
👉 Fines start at $100 and go up to $300.
Building owners are going to be responsible for keeping them clean, clear of snow/ice, and keeping 1.5 feet of clearance around them.
If you want to weigh in, there is a public hearing on June 17 via Teams, or you can email comments to nycrules@dsny.nyc.gov.
I was reading through the full city procurement drop for today, and there’s also nearly $1M in summer youth job funding going to St. Nicks Alliance for Brooklyn. You can see all the exact rules, fines, and contract numbers here:

Ramps
Do any of the farmers market stalls have ramps currently? Hoping tp avoid going to union square.
Black Tuxedo Cat on Cumberland St
Tonight (May 14) we met this incredibly sweet and friendly kitty that ran up to us on the corner of Fulton & Cumberland Street right across from Cuyler Gore. He seems well fed, but is not fixed nor wearing a collar. Does anyone know if he has an owner?
To the tall red haired man reading Flesh in the park on the bench Saturday 5/2 around lunchtime
Hello!
I have been thinking about our brief encounter and I hope you enjoyed the book. Well “enjoy” may not be the right word, I assume you’ve finished it by now. I awkwardly left because I was running late to a picnic and I wasn’t sure what else to say!
I wasn’t flirting (you’re out of my league) but it was cool to express enthusiasm for a book to a stranger and have you not be weirded out! If you see this, that’s all I wanted to say and in general to everyone, don’t be afraid to talk to strangers reading a book that speaks to you! Even if the conversation stays suspended in that moment, in that day-it’s kinda nice.
Cops on S. Portland near park
Anyone know why there is a “casual” but decently large (4-6 beat cops, a captain/lieutenant, at least 2 detectives) group of cops on S. Portland near the park? They’ve been there (starting with just the 2 beat cops and the detective) for at least 20-30 mins. They don’t seem to be actively doing anything? Just wondering if anyone knows why.
Signups Open for Greene Harvest CSA!
Hey, neighbors! Like the title says, signups are open for Greene Harvest CSA.
https://www.ghcsa.org/membership-pricing
For the uninitiated, CSA stands for "Community Supported Agriculture." The community works directly with a farm to get weekly shares of seasonal produce. The farmer gets the capital at the beginning of the season when they need it for buying seeds, etc; the members get to lock in their food price for the entire season.
You can find more info and pricing at the link above. There are also subsided shares available. Hope to see some of you as members!
Bicycle repair 🚲
Does anyone know if the Bicycle Station (on Park Ave) still open? I tried to call the shop many times but no one answered.
Or do you have any bike repair shops in the hood that you recommend? I need new tires and maybe a tune up.
