Best coffee shop and your favorite drink?

I’m visiting Duluth this week and want to try something outside of my usual plain latte. I’d love to hear your favorite coffee shop here and your favorite drink and/or baked goods

Wtf is this?

This is now part of the business owners responsibility? Honestly, what has Roger done for our downtown since getting elected. A parking ramp has been torn down, he posted about a site to connect with to report vandalism, and parking is even more effed up.

While I agree, our downtown needs more seating, art, plants, etc. I think putting this on the business owners is insane. We need to fix the root of this problem…house our unhoused neighbors.

Need some good shore fishing spots within a 45 min drive around Duluth only in Minnesota

I'm hard core struggling with money right now working 2 jobs and putting food in my kids mouth before my own so I have been fishing and eating what I catch recently but the fish haven't been very big or very many fish. I'm moving in a month but bills are so tight along with diapers and baby formula I have had to fish for my own food. Sometimes have been going 2 or 3 days without eating cause I had no luck fishing those days.

Anyone know of any good shore spots to fish from with bass perch pike walleye muskie catfish salmon and such? I have a lake fishing rod and a muskie rod for fish over 100lbs so I'm set for whatever I can catch just most of the spots I have been to are extremely dry for fishing.

Also if you have recommendations for rigs and set ups and bait for the spots y'all mention to catch the most fish that would be awesome thanks to all who respond.

I'm not asking anyone for financial help I just need to know better fishing spots to gather more food for myself.

I just saw a HUGE bobcat sprint across Midway halfway between Stokkes and St Louis River Rd

Almost got hit by a truck but that thing was hauling ass. I would guess it had to be 40lbs. He was gone in the blink of an eye.

Duluth Grill

How do people feel about Duluth Grill (DG)? They have gone through many changes throughout the years and are going in a different direction. The prices like everywhere else have gone up, but the quality has gone down. What do people think? I'm curious about the Vegan and vegetarian group.

What do you think they can do to improve?

What do you think they can do for the turnover rate of the employees as well?

Grandma’s Marathon busyness?

Hi all! I’m from WI and my cousin is getting married in the Minneapolis area the 19th of June. I was thinking it would be fun to go to Duluth the next day and make a weekend out of it. My aunt told me that Grandma’s marathon is the 20th however. I’m just wondering if it is madness there and worth even going? We have a toddler and baby and don't want to be fighting traffic the whole time. We love Duluth so I’m bummed! If it is crazy, any suggestions for things close by that won’t be so busy? We’ll just have a lot of that Saturday and some of Sunday. Thanks!

My Landlord Died

Last year my landlord died unexpectedly.
His son has taken over to some degree, but I’m curious if others who rented from Kurt Bartell are having issues?
For example we’ve had a hard time getting the son to pick up our rent after he insisted it be paid in cash, check, or money order. NOT electronically.
He didn’t get the paperwork done for our renter tax credit thing.
Hasn’t fixed our dishwasher that’s been broken for months now.
Obviously there was no question about resigning the lease for another year, me and my three roommates are done with it. Anybody else dealing with this? I have no idea how many tenants Kurt had.

Adult Sport League

Hi! Just moved into the Duluth area and I’m extremely interested in joining a rec league or even just playing some pickup games, does anyone know of any volleyball, basketball, pickleball or softball leagues that run that aren’t too expensive and would run consistently? I’m interested in meeting new people and having a good time!

If you drive a 2023 to 2026 Nissan Altima, you left something behind. 🤬

This car has been hit 3 times parked in this city…

Duluth City Council member is a lobbyist for the HT datacenter

TIL Arik Forsman, our city council member, is a lobbyist for the HT datacenter. His Council Member Contact info. (This is local politician contact info, it is public information available on the city of Duluth website)

218-730-5352 aforsman@duluthmn.gov

On an interesting note, FB flagged a similar post as "requiring approval" after it had already published and garnered attention & comments. At a guess, someone reported it to get the information silenced for a bit.

I think we should politely be very clear about our interest in a giant ugly noisemaking box that will add very few long-term local jobs to our Twin Ports community.

I invite you to cross-post to relevant subreddits.

Duluth has some of the most dangerously designed roads in the state. In 2023 that danger cost us $164 MILLION dollars to total, lifetime damages, according to National Security Council methodology.

To help understand that number, that's the equivalent of about $450k (!) per day.

Our roads are unsafe, which puts everyone we love at risk. In 2023, there were 300 crashes: for a town of 80,000, that's about 1 in 300 residents in a crash, every year. Over ten years, that's 1 in every 30. It's like a grim lottery that someone you know and care for will lose.

This immense burden on all of us is a policy choice. We can design a city with zero car-caused fatalities. Helsinki has a population 10x of Duluth, and recently achieved zero car-caused fatalities. Life goes on there, despite (or because of) prioritizing safety.

Primarily, that involves respecting the science of damage: 30+mph is the death & damage speed, and has no place near houses, businesses, driveways, walkways, bikeways, or intersections. We need to rebuild our streets so that they feel good to drive at 15-20mph. (Traffic calming like narrower lanes, medians, more trees, raised crossings, etc.)

I'm sure we all know people who have been involved in car collisions: maybe it was just an annoying fender bender, or maybe their health was ruined. Maybe they died. We need to stop allowing all this pointless violence by better design and policy.
