Rental Car

Heading to Curacao in 2 weeks! Plan to rent a car for a couple days of our trip but is it okay to wait until we get there? I read somewhere that they sometimes run out of cars but would really prefer to just wait and rent once we are there because want to see how we feel about how long we want it for and when. Thanks!

Thank you!!!

Just left and would just like to say it went ABOVE AND BEYOND our expectations!! We booked an Airbnb at Playa Lagun and my husband said it’s the best snorkeling he has had ( he has traveled and I haven’t too much yet). I loved it and so easy to access. We took the Mermaid Klein tour which IMO was good for the experience but my favorite times were on the main island. Playa Piskado was my favorite spot bc being so close to the turtles is priceless. We went to eat at many places but by far the best time we had was at Shelterrock restaurant! They had drinks, dinner, and karaoke which has the best vibes and their kiddo singing karaoke was awesome! We rented a car which by other reviews is a big YES. The drive although isn’t far from place to place does take time but the views are worth it. Again, thank you Curacao for an unforgettable week 💙

Shore Diving/Snorkeling and Where to Leave Stuff

We'll be on Curacao soon and plan to rent a car and visit various beaches to snorkel or scuba. We've seen people saying "Don't leave anything in the car" and also "Don't lock the car" (because a window will get broken).

We're looking for solutions on where to put things like a driver's license, dry clothes, and so on. Are there lockers at beaches? Maybe we go minimalist and just hide cash or a card or two under a seat?

We have some supposedly waterproof pouches, and even a metal cylinder for keys (supposedly ok for scuba) but I'm skeptical about all of those.

Or maybe we're just overthinking it but it's become a concern. Thanks!

Reliable car rental in Curacao

Hi! Last time I visited Curacao I mostly rented cars from private individuals through WhatsApp/Facebook groups, which always felt a bit sketchy..

Now I found TropicDrive and the site looks more professional/reliable than most local rental options I’ve seen. Has anyone here used them before? Were there any issues with the booking, hidden fees, deposits, insurance, or the actual rental company you got matched with?

Unwelcome visitors

Ok, I understand this is the tropics. I however have a question about the local "wildlife". Is it normal to have roaches the size of my thumb in my air bnb? We have been here two days and killed two big 'uns. Normal or concerning? Our landlord said it happens on the island

We aren't used to these things coming from the frozen tundra!

Dear Redditors of Curacao,

Hope you all are doing well!

A while ago, I applied for a position at one of the many resorts in Curacao. After a while they invited me to an interview, which led to a job offer.

At first I was excited to read that they were offering me a job, but then read the contract duration and salary, and I felt kinda insulted by it. I got offered a 6 months contract with 2 months of trial, and a monthly salary of CG. 3250.

I emailed them back, saying I didn’t agree with the duration of the contract and the salary, especially because they asked me whether I wanted to come to the island for long term or short term. I indicated it would be a long term move.
I then got an offer for 1 year and I need to send them back my salary expectations.

Now the difficult part of this story is, I would be moving from the Netherlands, giving up my stable job and income, for a dream to become true. They told me they wouldn’t provide financial support for relocation, neither would they match my European salary. All fine, but now I wonder:

What do I need to ask in terms of salary range. What are the real costs of living on Curacao? I’ve been there for vacations, I know how expensive things are. I have savings which I’m willing to invest, but what should I take into account?

Maui or Curacao in February '27

Im having a hard time deciding between these two destinations so hoping someone on here has been to both.

Important things for me:

Safety- it will be just me and my daughters, who are in their early 30s

Snorkeling- I want to be able to walk off the beach/shore and Snorkel

Flights are about the same cost flying from Michigan, with Maui actually being a little cheaper currently.

They are both islands so I know food will be expensive, but did you find one more expensive than the other?

Ill be renting a VRBO and have found several in both locations that meet our needs.

We dont need alot of nightlife so that is not a variable my decision.

Appreciate your help!

Not ideal, but thoughts?

We’ll be in Curaçao starting Monday. Our plan is to grab the rental and then head to Kokomo Breach for lunch - then off to grab groceries - and off to Coral Estates. Not ideal to leave our bags in the rental but how okay will we be? Thanks!

Monday night out recommendations

Hey! Me and my friends are in Curaçao right now and trying to figure out where to go out on a Monday night 😅

We’re 5 girls staying near Jan Thiel/Papagayo and have a car, so we don’t mind driving somewhere if the vibe is good. Looking for places that are actually lively on Mondays — bars, beach bars, clubs, live music, anything really.

Would love recommendations for:
- good music
- fun crowd
- places people actually go to on Mondays
- anything happening tonight

Thanks!!

Taking out XCG from my canadian bank in curacao

Hi everyone! I’m traveling to Curacao for the first time soon and was wondering if there is anywhere I can take out some XCG! I have a Canadian card and saw on a post 7 years ago that someone commented that there was a CIBC in Willemstad. I looked online and it says that it’s permanently closed. Is there another alternative in Curacao? I’m been trying to find a store in Canada that offers xcg but couldn’t find one and I would really like to avoid using USD. Thank you !

Beach sand

Hi all I have a question. Has anyone had issues returning home from vacation and bringing a small ziplot bag of pure dry sand from a beach as a memory/souvenir?

I have not had issues with many Carribean countries that I have visited. But I know some airports/countries are very strict with this stuff.

Hence I wanted to ask the question and see if anyone has every been stopped by TSA and fined or gotten their sand confiscated before? Or if Curacao is not super strict with this.

Thanks in advance!

Hi all, our first trip to the island is coming up in mid-June. We'll be staying 7 days at Avila Beach Hotel. It'll be three of, my wife and I along with our teenaged daughter. I made reservations for our first night at Rozendaels based on suggestions from this group. My question though is how necessary are reservations for other nights? We're renting a car and looking forward to exploring the island. We'd prefer to just play things by ear and see how the days go. On the other hand, we don't want to be shut out of some good places to eat or be stressed out about where and when we'll be able to eat. So, trying to find the right balance between making plans and playing things by ear. Would greatly appreciate your thoughts and recommendations. Thanks!

What are these?

Drove down SCHOTTEGATWEG WEST a few times and noticed these platform huts. (Best way I can describe them.) They are next to each other. What are they?

Marriot Beach Resort: good running areas?

Like the title said. Ik it’s a weird ask lol. 24F training for a big race and will be there with my family. Are there any good/safe running areas around the hotel or along the beach? Other than the gym from the hotel, would prefer some outdoor training.

Currency Exchange

I recently came back to Los Angeles CA. from Curaçao with some currency left over. The problem I'm having is LAX currency exchange wouldn't exchange it for USD, and my near by currency exchange places wouldn't either. Anyone experience this dilemma? Also on a side note is there anyone in LA traveling to Curaçao anytime soon? maybe we can figure something out..

Tomorrow I'll try the bank but I've already read most likely they won't do the exchange either.

We’re flying to Curacao on American Airlines from Nashville, connecting flight in Miami. I know American doesn’t have a great reputation so just wondering what other peoples experience has been. Mainly worried about our flight from Nashville getting delayed and then missing connecting flight.

Hello! Does anyone happen to know how long it takes for your digital immigration card to be approved? I fly out tomorrow AM and I just tried to check in on the United app and uploaded proof of embarkation card and the status says “pending approval.”

Thanks!
