Cruelty Free Alternative to CeraVe

Hi!

I've been recently swapping everything I own over to cruelty free brands after I run out however I'm finding it hard to find a good replacement for this one product.

I live in MA and the harsh winters really mess up my skin barrier and dry me out. The ONLY moisturizer I've found that helps with this and keeps my skin clear is the CeraVe Healing Ointment. I will be moving to Maine this fall for college and I KNOW I will need the protection.

Does anyone have any alternative recommendations for me to try out once I run out of my last tube? Thank you so much for your time!

Now, that Benefit has become certified by Cruelty Free International, which brand do you think will go cruelty free next? Also, thank you to u/thesweetestgoodbye for letting us know.

I 100% think it is going to be Maybelline next.

Aldi US store brands?

Hi everyone.

I was wondering if Aldi US store brands (like Tandil and Lacura) are Leaping Bunny certified cruelty free. I am only interested in verifying if Aldi US (not UK or other regions) store brands are cruelty free.

I am aware that Cruelty Free International certifies Aldi UK store brands as cruelty free. I can't find info for Aldi US.

Not achieving the color I want with cruelty free/vegan hair dyes…

I’ve been dying my hair black for a little over a year, I used to use Revlon to touch up my roots but over the last few months I’ve been trying to switch to vegan and/or cruelty free hair dyes, so far I’ve tried Arctic Fox, Ion Color, Garnier Olia, and just last night I tried Adore. Arctic fox seemed to stain everything BUT my hair, Garnier left my hair nasty and sticky for days, and NONE of them actually dyed my roots black. For reference, my natural hair color is dirty blonde and it grows quite fast so I dye my roots about every two weeks. Out of all of them I liked Adore the most, it was a nice texture that was easy to apply and it left my hair feeling soft and shiny, but it did not dye my roots black, as seen in the photos. I do not want to switch back to non vegan dyes, it’s very important to me that the products I use are vegan or at the very least cruelty free, but I don’t understand why seemingly none of them will properly dye my hair. Does anyone have suggestions for cruelty free/vegan hair dyes or advice on how to get Adore dye to work properly?

Switching to cruelty free products has been harder than I expected

I recently started trying to replace my everyday products with cruelty free options, and I thought it would be pretty straightforward. But once I actually started checking brands and labels, I realized it’s not always that simple.

Some products are clearly cruelty free, but others feel a bit unclear or inconsistent depending on where you look. I don’t want to overcomplicate things, but I also don’t want to ignore it completely either.

Right now I’m just trying to make small changes instead of replacing everything at once. It feels more manageable that way and less overwhelming.

For those who have been doing this longer, how do you usually decide what to trust
Do you have a simple way of checking brands without going down a long research rabbit hole

I’d really like to keep this sustainable long term, so any practical advice or personal experiences would help a lot

Cruelty Free Skincare Products Advice

Hello!

I have extremely sensitive and dry skin that is prone to breakouts a lot and I'm looking for some vegan and cruelty free skincare brands to use to help with it. I've tried a lot of different skincare products in the past and they never worked.

Here's what I tried;

  1. Prose
  2. Aveeno
  3. CeraVe
  4. Neutrogena
  5. St.Ives

I've tried them and a few others I can't remember the names of but they either worsened the breakouts or my face would go bright red and burn after using them. I'm hoping someone has some suggestions for me to try for sensitive and dry skin that's prone to breakouts that are also vegan and cruelty free.

Thank you!

What are your favorite cruelty free shampoos and conditioners?

I'm trying to slowly switch out all my things to be cruelty free, which has been very easy, honestly, because most of my things were thankfully already cruelty free. One thing I'm finding difficult is switching out my Loreal Elvive shampoo and conditioners because I've tried others and they just don't work as well. I have curly hair, and everything else has just been too drying or has made my hair greasy.

Looking for recommendations to try, nothing too expensive please :)

Looking for the best cruelty free alternative for CeraVE

Hi! My blemish prone skin finally calmed down thanks to CeraVe (Blemish Control Cleanser and CeraVe Moisturising Cream), but I always preferred to use cruelty free stuff, I was just very desperate at that time. This is the only thing I made an exception with years ago, but it feels so bad to rebuy these.

For the face wash I think Q+A Salicylic Acid Cleanser would work well enough. But my main problem now is to find a good alternative for moisturiser. I love that CeraVe is a "barrier cream" and it makes my skin sooo soft. I buyed the Benton Aloe Propolis Soothing Gel, but I am afraid that it won't be enough for the Swedish winter.

My criterias are that it has to be cruelty free, rich but acnee friendly and I would love it if it came in a big package. I just can't buy any 50 ml moisturiser, like they are gone sooo fast. Oh, and of course it has to be avaiable in Sweden.

Dry Lips Recommendations

Ok guys, I know this question has been asked by others before - but I am here to ask it again with the context of my specific problems.

Issue - I have very dry lips, & desperately need moisturizing cruelty-free recommendations. Hoping for a good moisturizing SPF balm, and a secondary product to put on top for gloss.

Previously tried:

Eadem - I swear it just dries up my lips more, til their sad little raisins

Sunday Fridays - Just does nothing for me, not moisturizing

Topicals - I do feel like this is moisturizing, but the packaging is TERRIBLE & the product always explodes EVERYWHERE

Blistex - Used to be my die hard balm, but she’s not cruelty free & I also try to use low waste products

Vitamasques - I like that they’re scented and have a flavor, but they just sit on my lips & don’t actually moisturize

Burts Bee’s - I do have a couple trusty balms from them (like lip renewing treatment,) but they don’t have SPF

Glossier - Just doesn’t feel like it does anything for me

Smith’s Salve - Again, just feels like it sits on my lips & doesn’t moisturize

Sun Bum - Just a terrible SPF balm, so thick & weird

I am sure I am forgetting some that I have tried, but that’s all I can remember at the moment. I do feel like if I find the right moisturizing SPF balm, then the quality of the second product would matter less (but that may be a misconception.)

TIA!!!!

Does anyone have a dupe for this. I fear I am lost 😞

This is the Diorshow mascara in brown. This has been my holy grail for a longgggg time since my sister gave me samples of it in high school. It is pricey but I eat the cost because I love it just that much. Dior is unfortunately not cruelty free though, and I'm trying to switch to fully cruelty free items when I rebuy my things.

Does anybody have a potential dupe? Even just judging by the shape and size of the wand?

I have been using cruelty free products for two years and the one area I kept failing was lip balm because I could never find one that actually worked

This is embarrassing to admit because I was pretty consistent everywhere else. Switched my cleanser, moisturizer, mascara, all of it, spent time researching and made it work. But every cruelty free lip balm I tried either felt waxy and uncomfortable or wore off within twenty minutes and I kept quietly going back to an old one I knew worked because my lips are genuinely terrible without something decent on them.

The problem I think was that I kept picking things based on the cruelty free label alone without paying attention to the actual formula. A lot of the ones I tried were just not the right ingredients for what my lips needed. Too much wax, not enough of anything that actually nourishes. They sat on top and did nothing useful underneath.

I finally went down a proper research rabbit hole about lip balm ingredients specifically, beeswax versus petroleum bases, what actually helps the skin barrier versus what just feels good temporarily, and came out of it with a much clearer idea of what I was looking for. Found something that ticked all the boxes and my lips have genuinely been fine ever since which after two years of struggling feels like a small miracle.

If anyone else has been stuck in the cruelty free lip balm cycle of buying things that do not work I would genuinely recommend just spending one evening reading about ingredients first. It changed everything for me.

Cruelty Free Kitty won’t add benefit to her database

I have a lot of thoughts on this. Cruelty free international and leaping bunny’s credibility is now being questioned in her comment section because of this post. Going cruelty free is already hard, but to make a post like this centering YOURSELF is disingenuous and insulting. So benefit didn’t email HER; therefore she isn’t adding them to her list? Why’s she making this about her? Did benefit refuse to pay her to be added to her site? The CF community (the influencers, the ones who are close with the people who run CFI and LB) are pretty flamed about this. There’s a reason we call CFI AND LB the gold standard. Y’all can continue to trust her. But as I said in my previous post, I will not. I saw another post on instagram calling into question her tactics, which I’ve added to this thread. This is disappointing. ALSO, Leaping Bunny commented on her post and the comments have been deleted.

Mind you, Conscious Bunny has added them

to her database because she doesn’t accept profit for listing brands. We as a community need to be coming together for the ANIMALS, instead of whatever it is she is doing. She’s done this multiple times and gotten away with it.

Here’s a CF creators thoughts on this

CF pool chemicals?

This is a very niche need but my boyfriend has bought a bunch of Clorox pool chemicals for our above ground pool and it kills me knowing how awful Clorox is. Anyone have any luck finding CF alternatives for pool chemicals?

We have 2 cetaphil cleansers, one for normal to senstive skin and normal to oily skin and I don’t want to use them because the brand is cruelty free yet my mom believes she knows my skin type and says my skin is super sensitive (it’s not.) what should I do?
