My poor Sparky :(

My poor Sparky :(

I got hit by someone without insurance (I was not at fault).

I was quoted about $2300 just from the visible damage, but the axle is definitely effed up and the body shop said there may be frame damage as well.

I fear he may be totaled :(

ETA: I was also told that when the shop tried to order a replacement door, they found out it has been discontinued.

I joined the club and did a few upgrades...

Hey there. My son smacked a deer with my Ford Fusion, and the insurance payout was used to buy Betty here outright. 32k miles, one owner, rebrand title. Previous owner had all maintenance tracked through carfax, so that's pretty handy. I proceeded to do a few quality-of-life upgrades since my previous car was a little more, shall we say, cushy.

First thing was replace the front door speakers with kenwood 300's; I purchased four (about $80 including harnesses and brackets) but my trim only had them in the front doors. I plan to wire the back doors in, install the speakers, and replace the pillar tweeters shortly. Not looking for a whole loud setup, just want to hear my music over the sound of the road!

Second thing was to install a larger armrest/storage box, not pictured. I got this on aliexpress for about $40 and it just installed into the cupholder between the seats. the original armrest was removed to allow the new one to fit. this was a huge impact for just a few bucks and totally worth it. I will admit the quality of the armrest itself is not the greatest, i will be on the lookout for a better version or perhaps find a friend with a 3d printer and get one made properly. also with this upgrade, i added two self-adhesive cushions ($3 for both) to the front door armrests. those suckers were painful!

Third was to add cruise control! I'm a cruise baby, and driving lots of highway miles means this car could get a nice bump in fuel economy with cruise. i bought a rostra kit and installed it myself. pretty easy, only 1 wire needed to be spliced and soldered (ignition wire) and the rest was installed with pass-through harnesses. the price was a little higher than i expected (around $300) but well worth it. i have already seen an increase in fuel economy! we were getting 38 mpg before the install, and after a week of driving have already seen it climb to 39.5 mpg. SIPPAH!

While I was deep in her guts workin on her cruise control, Betty showed me a surprise... Turns out she had a Viper keyless entry/alarm and remote start upgrade that the car dealer didn't know about... a quick search got me tech support, who found the model number for the needed replacement remote. (when we got the car from the dealer they only handed us one basic laser-cut key. it didn't come with a remote fob nor did the key have a chip. this should have been an indicator that there was some sort of chip bypass, most commonly seen with remote start systems. now you know) For $30 i got the replacement remote and reprogrammed it in about 5 seconds.

Lastly I installed the sunglasses storage box. found a comment on a post with a linked image showing this mod with a kia sedona sunglasses box. i imagine this would work with a wide range of headliner-installed storage boxes across all makes and models, should one be willing to take the time to measure search around... this modification was pretty straightforward and only cost $14 after shipping costs for a used kia sedona box. measure three or four times, make a handy template out of stiff cardboard or plastic to cut and test the fit with the box before you mark and cut the headliner! (i did the old texture rubbing trick: paper over the back of the box, rubbed gently with the side of a pencil or crayon. it leaves the outline on the paper for you to cut out and transfer to your stiffer cardboard or plastic template material. trace and cut your template, trim and test fit with storage box, tape and align to headliner, outline template with thin sharpie or felt pen, then cut with SHARP utility knife. i didn't need to trim, the box just popped into the headliner and looks like it was meant to be there.

For around $470 i managed to make this little economy death trap feel like (almost) a real car! I do plan on doing the trans drain and fill very soon, don't worry, and i'm driving it like the go-kart that it is, not trying to drive Fast and Furious. so far i love it and i'm glad i took the time to try a few mods, who knows what i'll find to do next!

Hi guys! I recently got my Chevy spark 2021. It doesnt have a back cam. I guess that’s the defult atleast from where I am located. Question, do you think I can modify the unit and install a back cam? Thank you

I get a lot off mines from random people or people I know. People have commented that its very red, cute little car, and it's pretty.

With my star decals, I get a lot of compliments off it too, the stars are sparkly during the day. I had one lady tell me that she really liked the way I had the stars setup. I got a random compliment from a guy and said he likes those stars. A coworker asked me where did I get those stars from. I have had these stars on for 2 years, and they're surprisingly high quality. They haven't fell off, color fading, or the glitter coming out.

Bought a used 2020 LT- Standard

Not a LT. An LS MANUAL. But I can’t update the title…
I love it. I’m thinking of taking the backseats out to have room for lugging stuff around. The cup holders are the worst though. Also, how easy is it to install rear speakers?

Did I get ripped off

When I booked the appointment it said it would be $260 which I already thought was a lot but fell in line with what I’ve seen people here say, when it came time to pay it was $369, the man at the desk said it’s because the site shows the price for a normal automatic transmission, but CVT transmission fluid is more expensive, is this true? Is it really that much more expensive, or did I just get totally ripped off by the dealer?

My Baby 💔

To make a very long story short my babygirl got in a hit and run a while back that crushed her door in such a way that I can't open the door at all and I have just been too devastated to even try to hunt for a fix so she's been parked for about six months. She still runs and whatnot, I make sure to cycle her fluids and everything, my partner is a car guy and takes every bit of care for her that I can't. I'm hunting for a front passenger door for a 2019 1LT door for as reasonable a price as possible as I do not make a ton of money, if ANYONE is able to direct me to a good place or source for one it would be SO immensely appreciated.

If you wanna know what happened!

To summarise, we were going into work one morning and heading down a relatively arterial overpass in my area, and some guy in a huge white truck decided to blind merge into my lane without realising I was directly next to him. It wasn't a gentle merge either, as you can see, and I'm incredibly lucky my partner was driving as he has extremely good control in dangerous situations like that. The window shattered on me but the interior was otherwise undamaged, I was mostly dismayed that it happened in the beginning of the cold months for where I live. Truly she has never given me problems and I love my baby VERY dearly and I am so torn up about her being damaged because insurance did not cover the damage since it was a hit and run and I didn't have uninsured coverage at the time.

im a broke student looking for a used car. my main use case is daily short commutes, with the occasional roadtrip. i'm looking for something well under $10k, and was looking on FB marketplace for used Toyotas/Hondas.

why are toyotas from 2007 with 150k miles like $7k?? i understand that toyotas and hondas are bulletproof, but i'm sure a 20 year old car is bound to have some small issues in the near future, and as a student, i really don't want to deal with any issues that will cost me time and/or money.

recently, an acquaintance of mine told me they are willing to sell their Spark for a good deal (around or under $8k). i understand the CVT is a point of failure, but this person has maintained the car religiously. i'm not too thrilled about the CVT, but considering the person is giving me a good deal on it, and it's relatively new and well-kept, is it a good deal?

and to those of you who own this car, how has maintenance been? have you faced any issues, and how much did they cost? i appreciate any response

i'm also extremely open to considering other cars, if you have any suggestions. i live in south california, will be in the sf bay area over this summer, so i'm looking for cars in both places

M450 & M300

When I came out after visiting city hall, there was a blue Spark parked right next to my car.
Judging by the simple bumpers, No fog lights, No rear spoiler, Mat black Sideview Mirror cover, and 13-inch steel wheels, it seemed to be the base LS trim.

Starting from the LT trim, the character lines became more pronounced and the bumpers adopted a more “Transformer” style design.

However, neither the LS nor LT bumpers of the M300 were ever launched in North America.
That’s because North American sales only began with the facelifted M350 model.

The “Daewoo Matiz Creative,” which began sales in 2009 when GM Korea was still called “GM Daewoo,” had its emblem changed to Chevrolet in 2011 when the brand transitioned to Chevrolet.

Then in 2013, it received a facelift into the M350 design that North American owners would be more familiar with.

The M300 was sold from 2009 with the 1.0L S-TEC II engine and the Jatco JF405E 4-speed A/T.

With the arrival of the M350 in 2013, it gained the S-TEC III engine and a Jatco CVT.
(Manual transmission models still retained the S-TEC II.)

In North America, it was initially sold in 2013 with a 1.2L S-TEC II engine and the Aisin AW 40-80LE 4-speed A/T, before switching to a Jatco CVT for the 2014 model year.
(In North America, it was sold exclusively with the S-TEC II engine until the M350 end.)

Trouble replacing shifter knob on 2016 Chevy Spark

Hey,
I drive a 2016 Chevrolet Spark, and the shifter knob has gotten extremely worn out (photo attached).
I decided to take initiative and replace it myself. I thought, how hard could it be?
I went on AliExpress and found something that looked almost identical to mine, including the leather boot. The product description explicitly said it fits my car model.
Long story short, complete nightmare.
I started taking the knob apart, detached it from the boot, and spent about an hour trying to pull it off with pliers. In the process, I only managed to destroy the knob and the boot even more.
Then I discovered another problem: the plastic frame that’s supposed to connect the new boot to the center console doesn’t even match the shape of my car’s console.
So even if I eventually manage to remove the original shifter knob, I still won’t be able to install the new boot and therefore not the new knob either.
Pretty frustrating. I searched AliExpress again for a version matching the shape I have in my car, but couldn’t find anything.
Any idea how I should proceed from here?
