Since we’re sharing shade houses

I also recently built a shade house in my yard and i’m super proud of it. First time ever building anything really. 3rd photo is all the tools I used.

First time cactus owner.

I just got this guy today. Is the white fuzzy stuff on top something I should worry about?

New shade hut.

Wanted to share with you guys my newly constructed shade hut!

Built a 10’ x 10’ shade house for my cactus collection here in Palm Springs (Zone 9b/10a). Used 50% shade cloth over a PVC frame (all parts from Lowe’s), bolted everything together for stability, and set it on a base of 1x1 pavers for a clean, level foundation.

The goal was to protect them from the intense desert sun while still giving plenty of airflow and light for healthy growth. So far it’s been working great—temps stay noticeably lower inside and no signs of sun stress.

Always tweaking things, but I’m pretty happy with how this setup turned out. Let me know what you think or if you’d do anything differently 🌵

Mammillaria showing off

After a stubborn winter—down to 21°F (-6°C) in January and a final frost around 32°F (0°C) in late March—it’s putting on quite a show.

Echinocereus Mojavensis in habitat

Found recently at surprisingly high altitude in southern California. This cactus definitely sees snow every winter.

I totally understand building a house around a saguaro. The other one looks in trouble though, just saying💀

I ran several AI plant identifiers and I’m getting different guesses. What do y'all think?

Who is this?

Does anyone know what kind this might be? I got it at Lowe’s but it was just labeled cactus. Sometimes they have some really cool ones!
