What’s the best way to measure for these drawer fronts?

My question is, what is the best/most accurate way to calculate for the height of each drawer front in this scenario?

First time cabinet attempt. After a lot of lessons learned I thought I was in the home stretch but these fronts are kicking my ass.

Most of these drawers are different sizes. And the space between some of the drawers ended up not being the same due to running out of room near the top. I inset my slides 1/2” not knowing what I was doing so now I’m measuring for inset fronts. Originally planned to do overlays because they sound easier. Anyway, I’m planning 1/8” gaps between all sides on the fronts. I just need to figure the height of the fronts for each drawer. Thanks in advance!

Wood type to get this look?

Looking for opinions on what wood species this might be on the cabinets. I can't find it mentioned when reverse image searching. Thanks for any input.

General Contractor Short Changes Subs

How offered do subs get short changed by GCs? I have been told by several big GCs they took a loss on the project and weren’t able to pay what they owed and negotiated a haircut…last one was $80k on a $320k contract.

How are countertops attached to cabinets in 1992 mobile home?

I have a 1992 lamplighter? mobile home with really unattractive countertops in the kitchen. I've painted the cabinets, and am looking to replace the countertops but I just cant figure out how theyre attached! my fear is that i cant get the countertops off without totally wrecking the cabinets (i really dont want to have to replace all the cabinets due to cost, just want to give a bit of a face-lift with new counters). Ive read that counters can be attached with glue, screws, nails, etc. To add, the cabinets themselves are particle board. In this mobile home, everything was done so cheaply and thus every change has been more difficult to accomplish. I've added a picture of what it looks like inside the cabinet, any ideas on whats holding the counter on? i dont see glue anywhere around the top of the cabinet (i feel like if glue was used, there would be some visible in there since they slapped everything together so fast)

Hinges will not close flush?

I added some 3/4 plywood doors to these steel cabinets.

Unfortunately, I think the screw heads prevent the doors from closing. I’ve used both flat screws and round head/ sheet metal screws but it seems as if the hinge joint (?) itself is too shallow.

-The first screw came with the hinge.

-The second screw I added bc it seemed better.

-The third screw was on the original steel door.

I currently have the 2nd screw in the plywood and the 3rd screw in the cabinet.

  1. Is it the screw heads and I need flatter screws?

  2. Do you have alternatives/ recommendations?

  3. Is the hinge joint itself too small?

Honesty is appreciated more than politeness.

Hi, I’m cleaning the inside of my kitchen cabinets and found this in all 4 drawers. I’ve been scrubbing and went so far as to spray with bleach and try to sand this stuff off. Suggestions? I probably should have worn a hazmat suit.

Dealing with grain raise using water-based top coat (renner 718)

Hi all,

Happy Easter to you all. I'm having an issue spraying water based top coat (renner 718) and grain raise.

I sand, water pop, sand again (gently) and then spray. After the first coat, I do a light hand sand with 400 grit and spray the second coat. I'm still getting a bit of grain raise after that second coat.

Any solutions I can explore to deal with it?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

fyi, renner 718 has a built in sanding sealer.

How to reinstall semi-concealed hinges (crying abt my diy project lol)

So I’ve been working on my original floating cupboards. Removed all doors and cleaned all hinges.

The doors with grates were easy enough to get back on — lighter and less use so I was able to screw some in tighter/looser depending on levelness.

Now I’m trying to reinstall the heavy cupboards on kitchen side and all are either crooked, not aligned, etc.

does anyone have any tips ?????

I believe these are semi concealed hinges.

I also have the original cabinet door holders that need to be aligned…which I imagine I should install first before getting doors aligned / straight ……!!!!!! Driving me nuts :)

How to fix / clean side panel

New build (5 months old). Black island side panel is looking like this. I only ever used a microfiber cloth damp with water. Now in spots (especially left hand side) it has turned cloudy, almost like it is dried out. I believe the side panel may be a maple veneer?

is there any recommendations on how to rectify this? Am I just cleaning it wrong, or is it wrecked?

Struggling with Clutter? Could a Plastic Storage Cabinet Be the Solution?

Yesterday I was cleaning my room and my mother brought a plastic storage cabinet to organize things. It was light and easy to move, I just dragged it to the corner without any effort. It didnt look very strong but still felt useful honestly.

After that I kept thinking about it while putting stuff inside. I usualy keep things here and there and then cant find anything later. This felt simple but also helpful. Still I was like what if it breaks after some time, plastic doesnt feel very long lasting. I wasnt fully sure about that part.

Later that night I was just laying and scrolling random stuff, checked many online marketplaces including alibaba and saw many plastic storage cabinet designs. Some looked very neat honestly. Now I am thinking if its really worth using or just temporary thing. Has anyone used plastic storage cabinet for long time and felt it stays good or breaks fast?
