Rental cost decline- off season? Grocery ?

Two specific questions for anyone who has lived there a year or more.

  1. Rentals: Does a 1BHK market soften at any point in the year? Better inventory, more landlord flexibility, lower asking price? Which months are realistically the best window to search? Any parishes you suggest I should look during these. My work is in Hamilton city.

  2. Groceries: Has the cost of everyday basics moved much recently? Eggs, milk, fruit, veg, meat. I cook most meals at home so this line item matters more than eating out. Any stores or habits that keep the weekly shop reasonable?

Looking for people who actually navigated this and have a rough number or timing that worked for them.

Company is planning to redomicile from Bermuda to Cayman. I have the option to move or work remotely from Bermuda and travel once a month. Has anybody made the move?

Not yet received a formal offer but indication is that I’ll keep the same compensation regardless of decision, which is ~$400k USD.

I’m an actuary working in life insurance.

Has anybody made the move from Bermuda to Cayman? How far would $400k USD go? Alternatively, has anybody done a regular commute? Once a month for a week doesn’t sound so bad, but with no direct flight I bet it would get boring fast.

Girls Trip! Any/all recommendations please!

The girls trip is actually making it out of the group chat….!!! Myself and a few of my closest girl friends are all turning 30 this year and we just booked our flights to Bermuda for this August. It’s a 4 day trip and we are looking for recommendations on what to do, where to eat, bars, restaurants, etc.

We haven’t booked accommodations yet but we are leaning towards the St. George Club Hotel. Is this a good area to stay in? It looks like there are some restaurants and cafes within walking distance, but I just want to make sure this is an area where we can actually walk places? It also looks like it’s in close proximity to the airport, which is good as we will need to take a taxi to get to the hotel (not renting a car).

I read that this hotel also has a shuttle that will take you to the beach, which is key for us.

Ultimately we are looking for a relaxing stay where we can lounge by the pool or at the beach, but also looking to dine at some good local spots and maybe splurge on a dinner or two.

Also looking for some bar recommendations where we can get some good cocktails and dance.

Cost of Living in Bermuda

Does anyone know how much is needed to live in Bermuda? Thinking of moving there after retirement. Is it worth it?

Which golf course has the best member community

I’m moving to Bermuda later this year as my wife has taken a relocation opportunity.
I will be trying to build a network from scratch so intend to engage in kids school / wife’s work community etc.
I’m coming from Australia and really enjoy my golf so will be looking to join and engage with a local club, and hope to build some quality connections this way.

Mid Ocean will be prohibitive for me to join, so that probably leaves Tuckers Point or Port Royal. (I’ll likely life near PR)

Are there any views on these and whether one has a better member community? Sometimes municipal courses are more transient / come and play golf once a week and leave vibe.

Keen on any thoughts and advice re: Bermuda golf for community/network building

Traveling and weather!

Good evening! My trip is next week and the weather looks so shitty. I was wondering if you guys had any insight on whether the weather is like just gonna rain a little bit and then the sun will come out or if it’s definitely going to rain all week— super bummed but unstoppable adventurer. Tyia
P.s. is 70 degrees cold around there or pretty mild?

I'm used to eating meat/fish every day but I've come to accept that's probably not going to be possible here as prices are mental (even with the deals/cheaper options etc.)

So I'd love to know what people's favourite cheap meals to cook are/any hacks you have to save on food shopping.

One lady I spoke to recently said she doesn't bother, she finds eating takeaway is cheaper. Fair point but I don't want to risk high blood pressure since cedar salt seems to be on everything 🤣

Where to find 1 bed apartment/condo rental?

There are barely any if at all listings for 1 bedroom apartments in any parish in Bermuda … I’m checking Facebook marketplace Emoo and property slipper and there’s almost nothing in the 2-3k usd range.

Also regarding work permit, does your employer have to search for a local candidate when it’s up for renewal ?

Best parish to live in and why?

I saw a video a Bermudian made ranking parishes from best to worst and would love to get some other opinions.

We are currently on the island in an ok place, and mulling a move across the island to a slightly bigger apartment which would set us back another $1000.

It is bigger, but further away from Hamilton and various amenities we have decent access to now.

We're just not sure if it's worth the move (for more space) or whether we should stick it out where we are and wait for something bigger, but not as far away/better connected...

Coming from the UK I'm new to the world of dehumidifiers but I've been warned that we need one out here.

What brand would people recommend? And am I better off buying one on Amazon and paying import fees?

i saw and heard some flying things today close to TCD (a bit north). they seemed like quad- or hexacopter, but with a tail and what seemed like some surface between the arms. does anyone know what they are and from where they are flown (id love to chat to the pilots).

edit: i know it looks like a kite. but it sounded much more like a fpv quad

edit2: ok thanks. bermudian kite.

US Expats financial/tax planning

Question for the US expats living in Bermuda (or have in the past): Are there any financial advisors and/or tax folks you've used that help with that stuff stateside? I moved to Bermuda from the US early this year, thus I don't have to worry about the whole taxes while living abroad thing until next year. But I will be looking for advice/help with taxes, as well as some financial planning now that I have a chunk of change from selling my house.

My mom has an advisor with Edward Jones who she talked to about helping me manage my finances, but it was made to seem like she didn't want to touch me with a ten foot pole, lol. My mom may have explained my situation incorrectly (i.e., made it seem like I was looking for help with my Bermuda finances, when it was just really for my US-based finances and taxes), so I may reach out to the adviser directly, but I figured I'd ping the Reddit hivemind for any recommendations.

Visiting in late June and looking for great hotel with pool and beach access- traveling with older teens. Want to be able to go out for meals too! Any thoughts we’ve never been to Bermuda- it’s a graduation present for kids. Thanks!
