Edit: im honestly quite disappointed with these responses. If you have no idea what im talking about, you are not welcome to use this post as a place to vent.

I used to follow Drain Gang and the 2018–2022 soundcloud scene and I'm hoping to find something similar in china. I stumbled across some old footage of Groundless Factory on Xiaohongshu, and it actually looked super cool. I really liked the abandoned industrial warehouse vibe i feel like its something we dont really have in north america. I've also heard of School Bar, but it seems kinda touristy based on what I'm seeing online. Someone recommended INS in Shanghai too, but it looks kinda cringe and probably isn't what I'm after.

If I want to find a DIY community to hang out with, which city fits best? I feel like Beijing's underground scene is more aligned with the North American scene in spirit (am I right about that lol?), so I'm leaning that way. Thoughts?

P.S. I know Beijing used to be more vibrant back in the day. So is the current underground more hidden and nomadic now?

Everyone i call from traffic police to others said there is no way for foreigners to use their information and get permissions online to go on the 6th ring.

Is there any work around that might have worked for you ?

I need permission for outer ring every week where i live.

Any information would be helpful, thanks.

Hi all! My partner and I (Americans) will be visiting Beijing for a week and are interested in a comprehensive health screening. Does anyone have recommendations for a hospital with English speaking staff or have done something similar and can share their experiences? TIA!

Can anyone please recommend some South African or New Zealand spots here? I saw an Irish Pub and many Italian places, but I haven’t seen a South African restaurant or New Zealand bakery yet. I really need some SA braaibroodjies or NZ meat pies. I’m bored and lonely and I really need some comfort food rn

Hi! I’m a local Chinese senior undergraduate student (male) currently studying and living in the Haidian district. I’m looking to make some genuine expat friends in Beijing. I'm a huge fan of video games and anime. 🎮 If you are an expat/international student in Beijing (especially if you are around Haidian) and want a chill local friend to hang out with, play some games together, or just explore the city, feel free to comment or DM!

Most repair shops just charge 100 RMB for labor cost, which is great, but either I have to bring the new screen by myself, or they can use an unofficial screen.

I want to have the official one, but I don't know how to buy a legit one on Taobao.

Alternatively, is there any place where they might have the official one, like any Samsung repair shop? (Phone is GALAXY s24, screen fully broken after scooter accident)

Hi, I'm coming to Beijing today for a few days and as a big history fan I'd really love to find some antiques/memorabilia from throughout China's history (communist and pre communist) can anyone recommend a good place to start looking?

Beijing Wonton Soup Mystery

Hello, whenever I go to Beijing, I see this wonton soup chain. They also have those skewers and wonton soups. Their wonton soups are super. I saw them in chaoyang, also around Peking University, etc. Always crowded. Has a face of someone in the logo. Can someone please help me find the name of the chain?

Beer street

Aussies looking for a street with a bit of something going on I feel like Beijing is really quiet at night compared to other cities we’ve been too. Not sure if we’ve been looking in the wrong spot, but we really want to go to a street with a few bar options.Travelling with girls so cocktail bars/ good music also appreciated.

Lost camera in Beijing

Hi there!

(This is a LONG shot, but will try my luck)

After two amazing weeks in China, I got back home and realized I lost/left my camera in Beijing (it's the black one in the above image).
The camera itself is not expensive, but it contains some of the nicest moments I had in Beijing.

I have already contacted my hotel and also Didi so they could check with their drivers, but no luck.

Based on the photos I have, it happened somewhere between Saturday night (May 2nd) and Monday morning (May 4th).

Considering the places I've been to within that period, the possible locations are: Walmart in Xicheng District, Hefeng Xinyi Hotel (Jinsong Guangqumenwai), and Sanlitun.

Thanks in advance!

My hairline has been receding a few years now. It doesn't look bad yet but I notice it getting worse as time goes on.

I don't want a full on hair transplant just yet as I'd like to try min & fin etc first.

I want to go to a hospital/clinic and do it because I have no idea how this stuff works, though I do know that I could buy some stuff on taobao myself if I wanted to. Anyway I'd like to at least go to the doctor for the first time and see what drugs they suggest me to take, then I can get the same drugs/doses or whatever off taobao from then on.

So please leave some suggestions for which hospital/clinic I should visit. Thanks!

Hi everyone, I’m in quite a desperate situation

I recently took the HSK exam for a Chinese university scholarship application. The certificate needs around one more month to arrive in my home country, but the application deadline is next Friday, so I’m applying for an additional expedited certificate.

Problem is, even express international shipping may not reach my country in time. Since the dispatch is done from Beijing, I’m hoping to have it sent to a Beijing address instead so it can arrive faster domestically.

Would anyone in Beijing be willing to help receive the document for me? It’s just an envelope with the certificate; after it arrives, I would only need a clear picture or scan of it sent to me. No forwarding needed and you can dispose of it

I will repay you by treating you a good Beijing duck or hotpot or anything fancy whenever im in Beijing

Thank you so much!!

Ever since the fire of that building some 15 years ago, I’d always known that that building was left vacant.
But today I drove past and saw some commotion going on.
Anyone know?

Magic the Gathering Beijing

Hey guys,

i‘ll be in Beijing soon. I‘ll stay there for a few weeks and I‘ll bring a commander deck with me.
I‘d love to connect with the local/expat magic scene in Beijing.

Does anyone know, if there are any places i should check out to get in touch with the local/expat scene and maybe also to buy my favourite cards as singles in chinese?

Thank you!
