Another bat snuggle

OK, this isn't much different from before, but ohmygosh they're just too cute.
We've been tracking bat data (roosting behavior, weather, call activity (AR4s)...) and usually put a check mark for 1, and 2 for, well, 2. We keep hoping maybe we'll see more, but that seems a bit optimistic.

This morning when we checked it wasn't really clear. It's dark in there. It looked like one big lump so we put a note (BIG!) but I checked again when we had a little bounce light in there this afternoon and it was definitely 2!

As ever, if you want to follow our reforesting and organism tracking, you can do that here. It's all available for free.

I honestly couldn’t believe my eyes when I first saw one, they’re huge! Hope you guys enjoy the pics.

Chilly fluffball in the UK

So survey season started last week. Ended up checking a loft near the end of a survey and found this guy very fluffed up, I think he (or she) might've been a bit cold! Most likely a Whiskered bat (Myotis mystacinus) for those wondering

Caught several of these guys the past few nights. It’s hard not to love those big ears. They also have a pretty chill disposition compared to most species after being caught in our nets. (Handled under the proper permits and with all relevant vaccinations, protocols, etc.)

I made a short process video of my newest painting <3 (I used cut matte board and acrylic paint)

This is my third piece I made using this technique and its probably my favorite! <3 Though I think i'm finally ready to start working a little larger because painting those tiny leaves almost drove me mad lol.

so unfortunately my house is only like 7 feet high, so I think a pole is what I need. However I’m debating on where to put it. one is along a fence line that gets morning sun. Another is close to the house that gets afternoon sun, and the other is between a couple trees (the tree in the middle will be cut down).

I’m worried that all of the spots will have potential issues for predators. do I solve that by using a 20ft pole?

edit: average temp where I live is 66 degrees in peak summer with a high of 90. (I live in western Washington)
