Made a few changes on requests to this 7L Messenger Sling Bag that transitions into a 22L Backpack.

Shared the first version here about a month ago and got some really solid feedback.

This one builds on the KOVERT Continuity 18, but with more capacity and a few usability tweaks. A Reddit sub member wanted something closer to the Mystery Ranch District 8, so I used that as a loose reference while updating it.

In the 7L sling mode, I added zippered external pockets while keeping the same overall look. Also added a side access pocket on the back panel for stuff like docs, notebook, or an umbrella.

Backpack mode offers 22L capacity and is unchanged.

Curious what you guys think!🤔

5.11 AMP Backpack alternatives or crossover suggestions?

Hi all,

I have a 5.11 AMP 12 backpack and I really like the design, harness and the customisation it offers. I find it very comfortable to carry even fully loaded. I like that you can also use a hydration bladder with it. I like that it’s functional but not overly tactical (like rush series).

I really like this pack EXCEPT for the “water bottle sleeves”. Horrible. The opening is too small and it’s a pain to take water bottles in and out. Just Horrible. When I hike then it’s not a problem since I can use a hydration bladder but for day to day I carry my water bottle and that of my 4 year old kid.

I was wondering if there is something similar to the 5.11 AMP but with better water bottle pockets? Or a crossover bag? Not full tech/edc and not fully hiking pack. I looked at the Evergoods MPL 22 but I’m not sure… I heard the harness isn’t comfy and looks a bit strange when fully packed out.

Any suggestions?

Patagonia Refugio 2026 30l review

I picked up the Patagonia Refugio 30L Daypack for one bag travel, light hiking, and college. I was between this and the Osprey Nebula 32 Backpack and chose the Refugio. After a 5 day conference, here is my take.

Aesthetic

Clean and minimal with smaller branding. The mesh pocket gives it a more technical look, which I was unsure about at first, but it is very functional. The 18 inch height makes it look smaller and more compact than most 30L bags.

Packing

I was able to fit 4 sweaters, 3 pairs of dress pants, 4 button downs, pajamas, 2 t shirts, 2 shorts, toiletries, laptop, iPad, dress shoes in the mesh pocket, and a winter coat strapped outside, with some room left.

Capacity feels similar to the Nebula, just with less structure.

Comfort

Comfortable overall. The back panel is a bit stiff but supportive, and the straps are soft. Breathability is decent. I carried around 12 kg without issues, but would not want to carry that all day.

Organization

Simple layout. Laptop sleeve, small front pocket, and one internal zip pocket. I like the flexibility, but you will likely want pouches. The Nebula has better built in organization.

External Storage

One of the best parts of the bag. The mesh pocket fits bulky items like shoes, and the compression straps are great for holding a jacket or extra gear. Daisy chains add more options.

Negatives

- Lightweight build means less structure

- Black interior makes things harder to find

- Minimal organization will not work for everyone

- Laptop sleeve could use a better false bottom

- Does not stand up when empty

What is the model of this Gregory backpack?

I saw this ad for a Gregory backpack for sale, but the seller doesn't know the model. He said it has an 80-liter capacity and was only used once ten years ago on a backpacking trip, and then it's been stored unused ever since. Is it worth buying? What model is this backpack? He's asking $100.

Question for you tall people: how long should the straps be?

I just made a leather backpack for my cousin-in-law…but he’s tall. A bit too tall in my (short person) opinion. Like, over 6’ tall. I figured I should make the straps longer than the pattern calls for, so I made it 11” (or 28cm) longer. The total strap length that I’ve measured is about 34” (or 86cm). Is the straps going to be too short for a tall guy? Or am I over thinking it?

50L vs 70L

I (31F) and going on a 25 day trip around Spain & Portugal and have chosen a hybrid backpack/Trolley. Unfortunately the only sizes are 50L and 70L. What would you recommend I buy? I have more days doing sight seeing, sailing etc and I will be there for most June so warmer weather, I don’t have much toiletries it’s mainly clothes & shoes I’ll be packing. Any advice will be appreciated!

Can a Backpack Bag Truly Combine Comfort, Style, and Everyday Functionality?

I am going to my brother room now. He is packing his new backpack bag for school. It is blue and look big but light. He is putting books and lunch box inside and checking pockets. I am watching and feeling curious because it hold so many things but still look neat. Some pens fall on floor but he dont care. The room feel messy but fun.

I am thinking why backpack bags are so popular. He dont use normal bags because they dont hold enough. I feel curious because some backpacks look big but feel heavy when full. Maybe size and material matter more than style. It make me wonder if all backpack bags are same or some are really stronger and better for long time use.

I am searching online while scrolling many online marketplaces including alibaba. I see backpack bags in many colors and sizes. Some have extra pockets some simple. Some have soft straps some hard. I read reviews where people say some backpacks last long others tear fast. Some are light and easy others heavy but strong. It feel like picking right one really matter if you want it comfy and useful every day.

Now I am thinking which backpack bag is really best for school and travel? Are light soft ones more usefull or strong heavy ones better choice?
